Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo
|
Due to a shared director and character designer, these series could be blended together seamlessly. Though different plot-wise (Okusama being a magical girl series focused a lot on romance and Melody of Oblivion being more horror and actiony), both provide a bizarre and surreal experience, along with a captivating story.

Megumi no Daigo: Kyuukoku no Orange

Both are series centered around disaster rescue, and take inspiration from the real life Hyper Rescue. While the obvious difference is that Drive Head utilizes giant robots, like Daigo, it emphasizes the human element of rescue to be the most important. Both shows just have a similar vibe.

Both feature the mundane adventures of a bunch of cute, colorful creatures, who live with a human girl. There's even a tsundere sort-of-enemy one, and both human families have a pet cat. Main difference is that the Cocotama have to be kept a secret from the rest of the world while the general populous seems to know about the Punirunes.

Mewkledreamy

Both are Sanrio anime that have a focus on people's dreams. They feature talking plushie-esque animals from a magical land coming to the human world and partnering with a group of girls. To avoid spoilers, the best way to put it is that a lot of the characters and situations are so similar they feel like they were intentionally borrowed from Onegai My Melody for Mewkledreamy.

Although the genres of these shows are quite different, they also had a lot in common. Both shows had strong focus on parent/child relationships. Bashin and J have aesthetic similarities to Popo and Soma, respectively. Soma and J have story arcs that are very similar as well.

Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion The Animation
|
Both anime involve the Shinkansen heavily, though Hikarian has to work around copyrights a bit while Shinkalion is actually sponsored by JR and thus can use actual trains. Still, if you like trains and you want a fun mecha anime, you'll probably enjoy both shows. Shinkalion is more serious and plot-driven while Hikarian is wacky antics for the most part, but it does get serious when it wants to.

Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion The Animation
|
Both are based on a transforming vehicle-to-robot toyline by Takara Tomy, and both have a similar initial premise. A young boy gets involved in the organization his father works for and becomes a driver of the titular robot due to high compatibility when attempts to get an adult driver failed. From there, they protect the peace from a mysterious enemy while keeping their new position a secret. Main difference is that Shinkalion has a lot more plot and a much higher budget. Drive Head actually has an interesting plot too, but unfortunately has severe pacing issues, so it follows more of a monster-of-the-week format for the most part until they get there. Still, they have a similar feel, and even canonically crossover in Drive Head's movie, so it's worthwhile to watch both.

Both are mecha anime involving young kids working together with robots in a police force. Main difference is that in J-Decker the robots are sentient and in Drive Head they're just regular robots piloted by humans. In both shows, girls tend to fall in love with the robots, regardless.
