The story is highly predictable.
The protagonist is whiny to the point of almost unbearable.
Characters are cookie-cutter tropes, get little to no development, instead, we are served a bunch of sides we couldn't care less about (their stories also go nowhere); people doing stuff that made them rather unlikable but somehow we are supposed too feel for them.
The art was OK, even though kind of boring after a while. Too much flash, not enough substance.
The show ends with cheap and undeserved feels in the last episode.

This review is hard to write. Since I only care for the story (in general), for me the anime starts off as a 10 and ends as a 4.
The first dozen or so episodes really are the mind war brilliance people had told me about. They are a 10. However, right around the introduction of a certain blonde character, the show takes a plunge. And it NEVER recovers. I came back to this having dropped it a year before. I have to admit, it gets better as it goes, but I need to agree with some reviewer (don't remember where) who said that the show tried too much to appeal to everybody.
It was good overall, but the creator could have concentrated more on what he does best rather than gun-fights and rock bands. I mean, if the most touching reveal happens practically during the end credits of the final episode... my thought were exactly: "Where was this for the last 13 episodes?" Feb 17, 2013

I actually made my account on myanimelist because of this anime. I wanted to share my views after seeing it all.
Having watched Tale of Memories, I went into this one with high expectations. And, unfortunately, was let down. 'Tale of Memories' was the first anime after 'Clannad' to actually move me, both 'Air' and 'Kannon' failing in that department (I only saw the latter two after Clannad, and they felt pale in comparison). However, 'Tale of Melodies', in my opinion, went the wrong way. It OVERLOADS you with stylistyc art and does not deliver on the story. If you split it into two stories, neither ... |
