Recently, Ufotable's production is just not that great, having these very poor/one sided characters and somewhat very linear story making some of their modern shows very predictable. It's just the same for Katsugeki/ Touken Ranbu. I'd rather say that this show was produced just to advertise the original game. I don't blame ufotable that much on this one because they really can't control the content by themselves but I do think the studio can do better than this. Ever since Unlimited Blade Works was produced, ufotable's overall direction went downhill. Tho I highly praised them with their stellar visuals but it's not the same
...
like Fate/Zero and Kara no Kyoukai. Katsugeki/ Touken Ranbu's direction is quite generic I would say.
The show struggled on pacing, developing its characters and this very weird 1st episode. They just throws you right into the action without explaining anything on what's happening. The show is like forcing you to understand and feel bad for the characters without giving you any major knowledge about them. ( Minor Spoiler ) There's also this one episode where someone died but I just don't care because how plain the character was.
All I can say that the series lacks alot, noticeable flaws making this show generic and plain on the direction part. Although the show is very pretty but I don't know if people would like this show or not. Do I recommend you to watch it? Yeah sure, why not for starters or for you guys who just love action but I won't recommend this for people who takes anime as a serious subject/medium. For my perspective, the show is just an advertisement for the game. ( most likely for additional content ) Games like this often doesn't really work on this medium, the game has its own charm to it that you can't just take and put it on the adaptation.
Overall - 5/10 it's not bad, it's just that ufotable can do better than this, I know they can pull it off.

Sports shows sometimes are very hard to handle especially on the art and animation category. Some studio really pushed their limits just to achieve and match the sports for the sake of the overall production of the series. But don't you worry, Production I.G is back to save the day! before I conclude my review, let me discuss the show's fine points and noticeable flaws
This really bothers me when I watched the very first episode. The similarities between this show and Hajime no Ippo's pilot episode is insane. This is definitely interesting or rather annoying for other people but for me atleast, I
...
still quite enjoy the 1st episode even though the execution isn't original. The overall plot is quite decent, I think the show doesn't really bother saving all of its full potential rather than making a risk and just blows everything up just to impress us the audience very early in the series. The show really excels on the general build up, giving us major informations that helps us to enjoy and understand the series. Though not all of them are given, there are times that you can't understand some of its given basic rules or even major guidelines for the competitions. Also I find the characters quite appealing, tho they're still not that very well fleshed out. But overall the show still really is trying hard to give us knowledge to understand the show fully. Btw, you know that one series that blew all of its animation budget for episode 1? and then as the show goes on, the quality melted? Ballroom e Youkoso wants to avoid that. ( "Yes we were born to make history!"~ )
I won't say much on the art because that's Production I.G for you. Stellar visuals, very detailed character designs, clean frames and great cinematography. I love the style and the details for the series but there is that one major problem that the series really can't avoid even for bigger studios like Production I.G, the lack of time for animating complicated performances. That's ballroom for you, very good to look at when it's animated perfectly but very hard to animate and it takes so much time. For now, I've seen some dancing scenes that felt too short, for the most part it's just editing and a detailed keyframe. I'll definitely accept Production I.G rotoscoping real ballroom sequences rather than having them waste time on animating these from scratch. ( Tho, it is confirmed that I.G really don't rotoscope real movements, they're more likely to use them as reference.
Overall, Ballroom e Youkoso is a good show, having such fascinating visuals and with an interesting premise really deserves to be one of the highlights of this season. But let's still wait and see if this show really deserves the praise. Do I recommend you to watch it? Definitely! Is it for everyone, probably.

This show needs more attention, I can't believe that people here in MAL rated this show very low and in fact this is probably one of the best show this season.
Youkai shows like this are very rare. As of now, I watched the first 5 episode and it blew my freaking expectations.
By far the show showcases
- great introduction
- great characters
- very good main male character
- very interesting backstories
...
- explaining some of the hidden elements of the series
- great opening and ending themes
- and great voice actors
For now, Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou is a very decent show that executes every category very very well. Characters are adorable and the main character is very relatable for other people. Simple story with complicated characters yet so fun to watch. Other people might think this show only showcases pure comedy, but it gets very very dark sometimes when they show detailed backstories of the supporting characters. This show must be on the top of the charts, Having the overall score below 7 is unforgivable, this show needs more attention. This is definitely one of the highlights of this season.
(Don't ever skip this show, you'll regret it later)

I'm speechless,
While Season 1 lacks of characterization with its characters, Season 2 finally putting some major character developments for the supporting characters while its Main Character also having a good development and don't get left behind at all.
For once, Yuuki Hayashi's soundtrack is a massive one in episode 10, bringing that scene into one of the most intense, well directed scene this season and not 100% sure but that last scene's animation really feels like Yutaka Nakamura's work ( Black & White frame by frame animation + Yutapon Cubes Destruction ) AND PROVING THAT BONES IS THE BEST SHOUNEN STUDIO ON THE ANIME INDUSTRY.
Yuuki Hayashi's
...
Soundtrack + Yutaka Nakamura's godtier "masterpiece" flawless animation + Great direction of Studio Bones = Great Adaptation

**No Spoilers
Youjo Senki's concept is kind of risky, it is hard to understand what teh fok is going on at first glance but can easily catch up if the plot is well executed by having good dialogues and decent narration. Youjo Senki is probably the best Anime of Winter 2017 ( all sequels aside ) It is the only series from start to finish delivered and surpasses my expectations, with episode 11 being all well-directed originally by Studio NUT is freaking amazing for a brandnew studio.
Story 9/10
The story is about a salaryman who was accidentally run down by a train and was reborn
...
as a little blonde girl back in WW1( Tanya ). That concept alone is very interesting but a mysterious being calling himself a God just made the story more interesting.
Explaining system / strategies of the military part is complicated but in this series, they tend to rely on heavy dialogues to explain complicated things such as new experiments, device and weapons which I must admit really worked for the series. But the most intriguing part is that Studio NUT added some major events that is not part of the original light novel. yes it is major because 1. it can destroy the whole series easily if its direction is really bad and 2. putting such event makes the series more interesting if it's executed very well. A very risky decision coming from a new studio is really really bad but dude they manage to reach my expectations and with producing such great series. The plot of the series never dropped some direction from start to finish and putting such great work that is very interesting & entertaining with good dialogues and decent execution.
Art 8/10
A lot of viewers were criticizing the art style of the series. I think the studio made a good decision putting less detailed style to easily put great animation sequences if needed.
The series relies on good cinematography and well polished backgrounds when characters having interactions. The studio only animating the interaction / heavy dialogue scenes by 3 frames per second which is enough for that. They put more effort on their battle scenes and they reusing their explosion 2d animation from the entire series which is less time consuming and works perfectly. They manage to make new explosion animation on the 11th episode and really just add more quality to the production quality of the series. Having reused animation is not bad but the NUT manage to put of their reused animation in different ways. Action scenes are well directed by putting military strategies and it is not your typical shounen that only randomly fighting each other, putting decent choreography on the action scene is very enlightening. The fights also shows the character's attitude/emotions and every character differs, from very passive but very well strategic person to very aggressive but with bad coordination. It simply shows that Youjo Senki not only relies on Raw 2d animation but they also put some details to it.
The CGI is really bad on the early stages but manage to improve on the later stages. The studio's CGI was either used to put massive amount of people to cover up some time or put some CGI backgrounds to use when air fights are needed. They know that their CGI was kind of a low quality but they manage to pull that out by having quick paneling & point blank transitions and sometimes very far shot and cannot be distinguish even by zooming in. CGI backgrounds are freaking impressive tho, episode 6 was brilliant and ep 11 sky battle was also stellar. Putting good camera movements on the CGI works and by mixing up the Traditional 2d animation was amazing.Their 3d backgrounds are very well rendered and with such good details.
Sound 9/10
The Sound is very very stellar, from Myth & Roid's Jingo Jungle to Mako Niina's Sensen no Realism. the soundtrack is well done, it puts some fight scenes into more good/aggressive sequence and builds up some excitement through out the action scenes. But the one really impresses me is that they never bothered getting a 2nd Ending theme and that was done by Mako Niina and it was perfect and fits very well on the series. Episode 8 were everyone is like is the series going an anime original and everybody having their doubts of the series bu then suddenly the 2nd ending started playing and it was fokin amazing. The 2nd Ending theme is the best of winter I must admit, It puts the viewer into some excitement and yet emotionally watching the sequence. The series ending theme really differs from all the music themes from all anime this winter, you can almost compare the ending to Rakugo's ending, they both well done and the sound is just amazing. Overall great soundtrack, great opening and topnotch 2nd ending theme.
Characters 7/10
Tanya's development is nothing special but her characterization is insane, yes she is overpowered but her weakness is very noticeable. She was abandoned and its like she was very alone, only managing things all by herself. She has the knowledge but it seems like everyone doesn't understand her. Being X is a great villain, the character is very interesting and mysterious only having him on the series by saying some strange yet offensive lines that triggers Tanya.
Side characters are the same, no massive developments but their characterization from the whole series is very strong, putting the plot more interesting and managing to put great interactions through out the whole series is just really good. No character developments on a series is bad to be honest but the series just progresses very well even without huge developments. The only development I know is when tanya being reincarnated and the other one where studio NUT originally directed ( not being part of the light novel )
Enjoyment & Overall 9/10
Having Izetta The Last Witch dropped the whole plot on the 2nd half and became a disaster and also Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress with great concept but failed to impress on the 2nd half as an anime original. Studio NUT not only accomplished an amazing adaptation but also by putting their own original events on the later stage of the series just put the series on the top. Never dropped quality, stayed true to its plot and very well executed story. Overall an amazing military/magic series and very entertaining one. The series ended perfectly for a 2nd season but idk if we can get one in teh future.

*No Spoiler Review
Ao no Exorcist is one of those show with interesting plot but goes downhill as the series progresses.
Story 6 - The story to be honest is not interesting at all, unique plot idea but the setup and build up are so generic, the story is predictable and the executions were kind of sloppy. It holds down the true idea of the main plot. I seems like A-1 didn't put an effort on this series. Overall kind of fair story yet with rough direction and very cliched setup ( predictable ).
Art 4 - After watching the 1st episode and the Opening at the end,
...
it made me think that this show had a potential. The episode 1 is very well executed with good cinematography and heavily filtered by blue and the 2D frame animation cuts were so clean that made the series high quality. But after that the series went downhill, with very stiff animation and that very disgusting weird cgi on Episode 6 made me puke aaaaAAAAaaaaAAAA. Overall very bad quality for the series ( very disappointing )
Sound 8 - Sound is great to be expected having Uverworld on their main opening theme. Soundtracks are good too, but not memorable in my opinion.
Characters 6 - Characters are kind of decent I guess, for me it seems the cast are off, It just doesn't help and to be honest makes the plot worse. Cringy interactions and sometimes very sloppy executions when it comes to major scenes.
Enjoyment - 7
Overall 6 / 10 - I mean Ao no Exorcist is really not that bad but in my opinion, the series didn't work well and the potential was wasted. This Arc is very good but A-1 Pictures failed to show how good it is when adapted. ( stiff animation, sloppy executions, cringy interactions, and a very generic setup that is obviously predictable. I prefer more the Original ending of the 1st season than this one.

This show hands down one of the godtier series in the history of anime. When it comes to drama, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu as a whole is insanely topnotch / masterpiece. Not being biased here, I mean the show is just that good, flawless + with insane direction and editing by Studio Deen.
Story 10/10 Simple and boring you might say but the narration of the series is topnotch, with thoughtful editing + with masterful direction, the show just climbed up the rankings easily, surpassing its 1st season. Overall flawless storyline. It is just that good and you might know the show had those insane plottwist
...
on the 2nd half of the series :)
Art 9/10 Nothing special when it comes to frame by frame animation but when it comes to cinematography the show just stands out. With good camera angles and with very realism type of editing, the show proved that animation is not only just the key to make a topnotch quality series.
Sound 10/10 Hell yes, from the shounen type of opening from both seasons to the one of the emotional endings i've seen. The 2nd Ending just hits you so hard with its mellow type of sound and then partnered with a very stimulating visuals that helps both art and sound to be one of the selling point of the series.
Characters 10/10 Oh boy, did just everybody got all their fokin character development? From Sukeroku to Yakumo upto Yotaro and Konatsu and even Shinnosuke. I mean every characters are well fleshed out with great interactions with the help of the great voice actors of the series. It is insanely overwhelming to watch.
Enjoyment 10/10
Overall 10/10
One of masterpieces of modern anime. Studio Deen is just so good at making this one. Surpassing the 1st season and even the Manga. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is a flawless - godtier - topnotch - moving - stellar - " m a s t e r p i e c e " on drama genre. "Never" anything came closely to this series from all Anime of 2016 and Anime of Winter 2017

The Sword Art Online curse continues on the series but not on this one.
Story 7 - Somewhat predictable but the executions were good enough to make the story plot stand out. They really improved their writing and put it in a logical way. But the story is not perfect ofc but it is good, not mediocre, it's above average I would say.
Art 10 - On this one A-1 pictures animation is pretty massive. They used the Clean 2d animation with the mix of CGI effects and the 1st thing comes into your mind is the Ufotable Strategy. Big production right here, like having the
...
2d smoke mixed with translucent cgi smoke. Heavily filtered characters + the world building here is better than the series. Overall, astounding animation with stellar editing.
Sound 8 - A pretty good one but not so special, they able to capture the scenes with good soundtracks and overall a very decent Sound/Music.
Characters 7 - The main problem of this franchise is the cliche characters, It's OKAY to have cliche ones but please make use of your characters wise and important, the "unbalanced characterization" of SAO is a major major problem but here they kind of fix it but still more work/effort to go.
Enjoyment 10- I really really enjoyed this one :D I can't deny it bruh
Overall 8.4/ ( 8 / 10 ) despite of its problems / issues , they naturally stand out and made a better quality of the series to a movie. Goodsht A-1 pictures not so bad :))
