Both with traditional japanese culture kind of genre and Rakugo from being well written drama to with tragic romance, yet Chihayafuru is different, with a very endearing slice of life genre and a great plot. Both with good characters, very stellar and good plot and very very good characters.

...then you might like 3-gatsu no Lion add

Very similar concepts, very good characters + despite 3gatsu being a good drama narrative visual kind of series, Chihayafuru being a good drama yet good and refreshing concept with a good Slice of life genre. I love both series because they're not shy to show the Traditional Japanese culture. I think Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu goes also that way but that show is a pure drama and I can closely compare Madhouse's Chihayafuru to Studio Shaft's March Comes in like a lion.

Both with high quality drama, mature plot, very wise narration and good characters.

Both with great storytelling, while Rakugo using such poetic kind of narration that make a good clear picture to the audience, March Comes in like a Lion uses visual narration that symbolizes the whole point of a story.
