Both shows explore themes depicting a search for identity and existential meaning relating to the effects of war on deeply emotional level. Violet Evergarden follows a semi-episodic narrative through the eyes of our MC that touches on the importance of love and human connection in the aftermath of war, while Eighty-Six examines the meaning of life through a larger main cast of characters in the midst of a war-torn and prejudiced country. Though both stories present these overarching themes through different styles (e.g. VE is slower-paced and more melodramatic while 86 is considerably more action-packed), they use stunning sound and visual design to illustrate that life has beauty and value, even through times of darkness and tragedy, which could attract a similar type of audience.
