Yozakura Quartet

Both shows deal with gods, the supernatural, and are most light fantasies with lots of humor. Yozakura Quartet also has action and battles, while Kannagi has more school life drama; but neither show takes itself to seriously. They are both fairly short (12 and 13 eps). Yozakura Quartet's plot is centered around the protection of a town that is normal, except that it is a haven for beings with supernatural powers who want to live in peace with humans. Kannagi is about Nagi, a self proclaimed kami who took the form of a girl when her sacred tree was carved by Jin, a very normal boy with an absentee father so not parents will question when Nagi decides to stay. Both anime are very cute without being too cute, and the drama, humor, and action keep them from being boring or too typical.

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
add

The animation styles are very different. Code Geass may look lighter or happier, but both anime deal with dark themes of control, death, judgment, and power. While Death Note takes place in our world, Code Geass takes place in a sort of alternate history based world with Mecha, a complex political situation, and a dystopian landscape in Japan. In both cases a very intelligent character who is seemingly normal otherwise, is suddenly presented with a supernatural power and the choice of what to do with it. Both decide to use their new found power to change the world for, in their opinion, the better; but, not everyone feels the use of such power is ethical, or, agrees how to make the world better, and the characters face opposition. In Death Note the conflicts are much closer, as they do not involve international politics or battles, they are more centered on the minds of the two main protagonists. Code Geass involves much of the same chess style psychological battling, but, applies it to the grand stage of world power struggles as well as character driven motivations. Both anime feature plot twists and a sense of unpredictability, if you enjoyed one, you will likely enjoy the other, though, they are different in many ways and should not be watched with expectations of intense similarity. Code Geass is concluded in the season season, Code Geass r2

Soul Eater

Soul Eater is much longer and will probably reach its intended end (or at least I should hope so) while Zombie Loan was cut short and is uncertain, but Zombie Loan has some of the same elements such as a team working toward a goal to fight evil through supernatural weapons and powers, though in Zombie Loan it is to pay back a loan and in Soul Eater it is to become a Death Scythe. Both shows have shinigami and dark themes. The style of Zombie Loan is more typical of anime while Soul Eater has a Nightmare Before Christmas atmosphere with its bloody grinning moon and comical gothic designs. I would suggest Zombie Loan for the inconvenient times when a week is just too long between Soul Eater episodes :)

Ergo Proxy
add

Despite large plot and animation differences, there is something similar in the feel of these anime. If you're looking for something just like Last Exile/Ergo Proxy, this isn't what I am talking about. But if you like one, you may want to try the other. Of course the most obvious similarity is the cute little girl running around amid a world in chaos, but, more importantly both are about journeys navigating through different forces trying to manipulate the characters. Also, there a mystery (what is Exile and how is Alvis related to it/ what are the Proxies?) that is revealed as the series goes on. Neither story takes place in our world. Ergo Proxy has older main characters so it may seem a bit more mature than Last Exile, but neither dreadfully dark but by no means light.

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
add

Both shows deal with political complexities, conquest, and war. While Code Geass takes place in an alternate Earth time line, Kiba deals with another world entirely. Kiba has Spirits rather than the mecha of Code Geass and the plots are quite different. Geass has more comic relief and variety of mood but both share underlying supernatural mysteries, tragic events, and dark themes. Both shows also have a set of friends (Lelouch and Suzaku in Geass, Zed and Noa in Kiba) who get caught up in different affiliations and have to struggle with their ideals and values versus friendship and loyalty.
