Well though they DO have the same mangaka (Sakura Kinoshita, with Kazuko Higashiyama working with her on Tactics), and this is evident in the art of the first few volumes of Tactics where Kinoshita-sensei does most of the artwork, they're also similar in that the main character is usually solving mysteries/cases that have to do with paranormal phenomena. In Loki the phenomena are based mostly on Norse, and some Greek/Roman mythos. In Tactics, Japanese folklore are the foundation of the phenomena. Also it's similar in that one of the lead characters undergoes some sort of a transformation/ is hiding another form: Loki has a teenaged/adult form, while Haruka has an tengu form.

Well Video Girl Ai has a girl from a video tape coming to exist in the real world, and whose initial mission was to get the guy who rented the tape to have a relationship with the girl he liked, whereas in Epotoransu Mai, we have an electronic spirit guy who tries to get the girl who managed to "free" him from an electronic portable notebook/diary to have a relationship with the guy she likes. Basically the lead characters have a "bridge" connection with the other lead character. The endings though are different :)

The main characters are both shota (young boys), who have supernatural powers - Loki is a Norse god, Laharl is the son of the previous Demon Overlord. They both attempt to return to their "home", they have female companions who boss them around or manage to get them to do something they don't want to: Mayura for Loki and Etna/Flonne for Laharl :P There are mascot characters for both series: Ecchan and Fenrir for Loki and Prinnies for Disgaea...need I add more?
