Coming from a 25-year-old veteran anime/manga lover, I have to say this anime took me by surprise. As a child, I was OBSESSED with magical girl animes, but as I've gotten older my tastes have changed. The character development and the ML kept me watching until I finished this!
Story/Character:
Most of the time, when watching any of these magical girls shows, they tend to keep their villans as bland and simple, but this anime for sure did the opposite. This was my drive to keep watching. If you like a villain that has a backstory and complex layers, you should give Sugar Sugar Rune a shoot!
I
...
didn't like some parts of Vanilla and Chocolat's personalities, but keeping in mind these kids are only 10, helps reason out their actions. Their friendship was so beautiful to me and moved me so! Even though they are competing against each other they are not spiteful and help one another out.
The romance was sweet, but it bloomed more and more as the show went on, one of my favorite parts of this anime!
Art:
I didn't the clothes at all in this show, I think this is the first time I've come across an anime where I didn't like the character's outfits. I thought there were nice touches when it came to non-human creatures, v.s humans.
Overall
I am glad I decided to finish this, it was a little slow at first, but is now a part of my favorite anime collections. I think I'll give the manga a shot too!

For those folks out there that enjoyed "Lovely Complex" (myself included) this manga is pretty good! Although the characters are older I find it wonderful to relate to myself! The main character is very naive and has trouble making up her mind, but she is rather sweet and silly. As for the main male character, he is well done and comes off very mature. He hasn't really express too much interest, but it is in his nature not to expose too much of his own emotions. I personally love the main characters interactions, very funny! So far the pace this manga is going at
...
is great too. I'm sure it will progress better as the story continues. I urge you all to read it! I can't wait until the next chapter.

I'm a bit surprised at the mixed reviews this anime has received, I personally feel it was very entertaining and I enjoyed it greatly. When I first watched it it indeed grabbed my attention, and I must say I was addicted! Yes, there are quite a good amount of flaws but beggars can't be choosers, and nothing can be made to perfectly suit ones taste, but this one gets fairly close. I finished this anime back in 2009 so this review is VERY late. :o
STORY:
If you are intrigued by the idea of mystery and problem solving, boy you are in for a treat! Not to
...
give anything away but the plot has to do with one main question, who exactly are the Blade Children? It's a original idea I must say, but sadly it isn't fully understood in the anime. My only true complant is the ending of the anime, it was rushed and very unresolved, but do not let that turn you away just yet. I myself loved the plot so much I finished the entire manga, and it gets only better! Not to say the anime wasn't entertaining, it's just that most anime tend to cut a lot off from the manga. I highly recommend to watch the anime then read the manga, and you will be quite satisfied
ART:
Maybe it's because I enjoy watching older animes (huge fan of Yu Yu Hakusho, Ranma 1/2 art) But I actully liked the art style, it's something I find conforting. The only real complaint I could give would have be hair being see-through when overshadowing the eyes on this one specific character and I just found that bothersome.
.
SOUND:
I found the background music was always suiting to whatever was happening at that moment, so that would be a plus. Though I really disliked the opening song, it was too annoying for my taste. -.- Though the ending song was cute.
CHARACTER:
My personal favorite, they have so much dept to them it's diffcult to NOT like them! Each and every one of them have their own layers, weaknesses and strength to them. If I could I would give an 11 just because it is VERY hard these day to find a strong willed female, best of all theres a bunch of them! I have serveral favorite characters, and typically I'm a bit picky when it comes to choosing more then a few. Another plus in this anime is that all the characters do develop a bit, and that doesn't happen very often in short cut animes. You will be rooting for the main character, and I have yet to come arcoss someone like him again.
ENJOYMENT:
As you may have noticed, I really loved Spiral, and though I really disliked how the ending was made, I can't help but to add this anime into my personal favorites. :) I would also like to blame the manga for making it even more loveable then it already is.
To you guys debatiing out there, it never hurts to try! Really anime viewers Spiral is highly refreshing and better then your run of the mill anime! Perhaps you will find your new obsession!

I watched this anime about 3 years ago, but I've gone back and rewatched it a lot. I've always wanted to let others know how I view this anime and how much more hidden depth there is in it. However this anime is a lot harder to sum up together then one might think. -.-
Story- 8
Ranma 1/2 story plot is fairly odd, but you can really feel for the main character, or at least I did. The main gist of the plot always comes back to Ranma(wanting very badly) to return to a being normal guy, getting stronger, and who he should marry.
...
You could say there really is not straightforward direction plot wise, but there is reasoning. Ranma Saotome is a guy with a curse that turns into a chick when spashed with cold water, but turns back into a guy when warm/hot water hits him(or he just takes a warm bath). This is pretty darn great to watch because it is something that isn't what you see in typical anime. Another thing I noticed was all the things that happen to the main character would bring down any other person, but he never gives in for long. Although it comes off as a funny romance with some action, it is also a bit sad and can get pretty dramatic and cute.
I gave it a 8 because some of the epsides become kind of predictable, but it was really fun to watch one you warm up to the characters. This anime would have a lot higher ratings if it was completed.
Art-9
For an older anime, it's one of the best animation I've seen comparing it to other older animes. Though the change in art kind of bugged me, but it only gets better.
Sound-9
I really enjoyed the music, and really it's pretty catchy and fun! You'll for sure catch yourself songing along too!
Character-9
As strange as it seems the characters stay pretty much the same, they are pretty likeable and will get you laughing your head off. The only two that do change and grow as characters are Ranma and Akane(though old habits do die hard). Sometimes when you think one character will do something in their character there are times when you're in for a twist.
Akane Tendo and Ranma Saotome are (as I said before) the ones that grow the most (compared to everyone else who doesn't) and can surprise you with how they interact with one another (when they aren't fighting).
Ranma, Moose, and Ryoga seem to be the usual favourites of this show, and quite honestly, when these three go at it, comedy can't help but follow. Ryoga is usually getting lost when he has to walk more than a few minutes in a straight line, Moose is completely clueless of anything without his glasses, and Ranma is the glue that ties them all together with his level-headedness and arrogance. Most of the characters have one or more traits about them that make them who they are, and you come to know them by those traits. So even though none of the characters are very deep (with maybe the exception of Ranma and Akane), you learn to love them. And it's all too easy to do so.
Enjoyment- 10
I could not stop watching and rewatched a lot of the episodes (normally something I don't really do) and it never ceasese to amaze me how something that seems so comical can have a bit of hidden depth of sadness.(It's not all that obvious but you will see a bit of it yourself)
Overall-10
I am fairly picky with my anime and have trouble liking the newer anime due to them being overally perverted, but even though we do see nude-ness it doesn't become annoying, or overdone. I really recommend this to anybody out there who is sucker for romance, action, interesting twists, and insane fun!
As I said before this show would be a lot more amazing if it had an ending, and if you guys check out the manga you'll know what I mean. There's even more not-so-hidden darkness to Ranma 1/2 and it's pretty twisty! ^^
As a last thought, it is so worth watching! I've even gotten a few anime-dislikers loving it (my friends) :P

One of my personal favorite OVA parts of Ranma 1/2. Even though the anime hasn't been completed these OVAS give the viewer more of a softer view of some of the characters.

If you want a quick short but a bit depressing, demon fighting goreish anime, with a bit of humor and romance this is your anime!
This was a lot better than I thought it would be, and I finished it pretty quickly. The art is really great to look at and the plot drew me in fairly quickly. It's a lot sadder than it would seem to be, but the ending is does not leaving you completely hanging like a lot of anime does out there, even if it is short.
Some might claim it reminds them of InuYasha, and as much as I like that
...
anime, they are aren't very much alike. Sure the lead is half demon/spirit but she is has a toughness to her I really like (and that's hard to find in anime girls). Instead of the males being the stronger ones, the girls in this anime are the ones who protect them the most, and I have to give props for that.
My favoirte thing about this anime is the light romance (the shyness of it), how much the characters grow(Deeper than one would expect) (even though the humans seem meh at first), the goreish fighting, and the bit of humor that does show up. The plot twists do help too (though I can't say what!)
I am a fan of multipile types of anime, normally (action, romance, gore, ect) and this anime fits in perfectly!
Although an ending is better than hanging, this anime could have been longer with added arcs (that is if you're a fan of long animes like myself)
All in all, it's worth watching! :)
