The concept of moe anime girls playing in a band sounds like something only a true degenerate could enjoy. But that isn’t the case for K-On. I’ll have you know, the average K-On enjoyer is someone who would eat a bowl of nails without milk for breakfast. While at first glance it seems to just be cute girls doing cute stuff, it is much deeper than you think. The show actually has meaningful themes, such as finding people you belong with and not wasting the time that you have with them.
K-On
...
can get very heartfelt and is able to make viewers emotional, but it is also known for its very cheerful side as well. The show has a dumb charm to it, and is always willing to be funny and joyful. Few shows are able to provide me with an enjoyment similar to that of the whimsy in K-On. The majority of the show is just the main characters being silly, and K-On manages to make that so entertaining. The characters are great too, and their relationship helps show how K-On is deeper than you may think.
It’s funny, joyous, heartfelt, and most of that is thanks to the work that Kyoto Animation put in to adapting it. I really enjoyed the manga and thought the author Kakifly did some great work, but the anime made some great improvements. You can tell that the people who worked on it put a lot of heart in the adaptation, especially in episodes that were completely original to the anime. This whole series had no right to go as hard as it did.
