My First Anime (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou)
The first anime I ever watched was The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. I found it online one day and really liked how it looked. I had been interested in anime, but could never find where to start. I decided to give it a try, even though I knew nothing about it. While I think the first three episodes are a bit of a slow start, I grew to love it the more I watched. I loved all of the characters and seeing them all strive for their goals together. The bond that they share through Sakura Hall feels real, and I eventually became attached and invested to them through that bond. While it can be happy and funny, it can also be just as sad. It’s such a heartfelt show with great character writing. I’ve left this description vague to avoid going into spoiler territory, so my apologies for having trouble to explain this without talking too much about anything that happens. With that said, I highly recommend watching Sakurasou, even though it is yet to get a season 2 or a light novel translation.
Bunny Girl Senpai is a Genuine Masterpiece
There are very few stories that are able to make me feel the way that Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai does. While it has these very far-fetched scenarios, it is legitimately one of the realest and most down to earth pieces of fiction I’ve seen. Though the characters are put in to very fictional physical circumstances, their mental circumstances are filled with reality. Being able to see those characters’ journey through their struggles is something no other series can do as beautifully. Hajime Kamoshida mastered character development by giving us character arcs full of insights to a specific character as we go through their journey with them and uncover the truth behind their adolescence syndrome. Each individual arc isn’t a 9 or 10/10 but it’s surprising how many are. The Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl/ His First Love arc in particular is honestly my favorite singular work in all of fiction.
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War (PEAK FICTION)
Comedy has always been my favorite genre of TV and movies, so I was interested to see what a comedy anime was like. While this is just one of many, I definitely think it’s the best, even better than Saiki K. I love seeing the outcome of the situations Kaguya and Miyuki put each other into, often causing hilarious results. The timing of others often ruining their plans is perfect, especially when it’s Chika who does so. Ishigami’s responses to whatever happens are usually just as funny. And every time I see the Shirogane dad I can’t help but laugh. While I loved the manga and it may be better in some areas, the voice acting and the clever ways they animate things in the anime make me actually prefer the show to the manga. And it is still very entertaining when it isn’t trying to be funny, notably the sports festival and culture festival arcs. Love is War manages to do so much, and do it so well. This series is a masterpiece.
