I'll put here shows that I feel exceeded my expectations and then some:
1. Hunter x Hunter - You seem to like One Piece so I'll just say, it's really similar just in rather different settings. And the themes that unveil itself overtime become ever so perfect. It's not as long but definitely catches on faster and became one of my favorites after I binged it in the course of some weeks. It's really good.
2. Akiba Maid War - It's short, fun, sweet, emotional and can still deliver absolutely amazing lore in just the span of 12 episodes. Definitely a masterpiece in its own right.
3. Baka and Test - I don't know which you prefer either sub or dub, but if you're going to watch this comedy; dub is definitely better. Nonstop laughter is all I promise.
4. Babylon - Don't watch this if you're going through something particularly emotional or mentally draining because the subject matter here is crazy heavy, but I like it so... This is more so a mature anime to say the least. You'd either be a really big fan of, or would consider it a total waste of time and effort as you'd not be too interested by the end. Either way, I can tell you it's one that would mess with your head heavy.
5. Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom - To be honest, this just a well-put together work of art. I seriously can't think of why anyone would hate this and hence why it's here. I personally consider it a masterpiece in it's niche. But I can say it goes beyond that. A little of action, a little of thriller, a little of the mafia and a lot more. It's something I never really got bored of when watching and it does so well without trying to something the audience will expect. I love it. I cried at the end a little bit but hey, that's how you know there's impact.
