Imagine Bruce Lee and Quentin Taratino's love child grew up and decided to make an anime after viciously fighting tigers in a jungle with nothing but a sharp stick. Ladies and gentlemen, that anime would be Cowboy Bebop. I often view Cowboy Bebop as the "devil" of anime. Not because it's particularly bad, but in fact it's quite the contrary. When you sign a deal with the devil, what happens? You get what you want, and the devil gets your soul. And in this case, you get the best entertainment you'll ever have in your life, but your soul is now being vastly devoured by
...
anime shows.
Story: 9/10 - Cowboy Bebop is a bit different than other anime because it's plot vastly depends on the episodes (rather than it being a continuous plot throughout the series), to the point where it kinda mirrors a lot of American cartoons in it's story telling format. However, I still do HIGHLY recommend you watch all the episodes. Not only are all of them tremendously entertaining, but a lot of elements from certain episodes come back later as important plot. The overarching plot is pretty simple, the show follows two partners: Spike and Jet who've had rough pasts and run off to become space bounty hunters in a future society where inter-planetary travel isn't just possible, but also widely used. Overtime there spaceship (the Bebop) gains more and more members: A women with and attitude (Faye), a corgi with enhanced intelligence (Ein), and a superhacker (Who is just a little girl with SEVERE ADHD named Edward).
Art: 10/10 - The art itself especially deserves praise because Cowboy Bebop came out before digital animation was widely used... and it's STILL better animated than a hell of a lot of modern anime. The fight scenes are still very fluid for it's time and still holds up to the very day.
Sound: 10/10 - Want to hear the best fucking dub in existence? Look no further than Cowboy Bebop. This show has vastly been considered to have the best dub in anime history, and it came out an era where not much was expected in the dubbing process. As for the soundtrack? Well, Cowboy Bebop relies heavily on it's music as it's loaded with jazz/blues. And if you're a music fan this anime is LOADED with classic rock references... try and see if you can guess them all.
Character: 9/10 - All the main characters that I listed above were all very dynamic and lovable in their own right, but my one and only problem with the characters are the side characters. A lot of times you'll get a very interesting side character who only gets 20 minutes of screen time, and you'll never see him/her... again. However, ALL the main characters are amazing in every way, shape, and form. Spike and Jet are total bad-asses, Faye makes a great seductress for the show (and has a very interesting back story), and Edward is one of the greatest comic reliefs in anime history. Not to mention fucking Vicious, the main antagonist of the show who trained beside Spike.
Enjoyment: 10/10 - One of the many things that makes Cowboy Bebop so interesting is the fact they are willing to laugh at subjects that most anime wouldn't DARE to touch. Drugs (The Shroom episode... oh god the shroom episode), sex, transvestites, gruesome murders, gambling, and humans who have been heavily experimented on... this anime has 'em all! There is no such thing as limits when it comes to this show, because limits are for pussies! I personally found every single episodes filled with entertainment that had me hooked from start to finish.
This show is not called a classic because it's made in the late 90's, it's called a classic because it fucking deserves the title. If you are looking for a show that steps beyond the boundaries of other anime, and a show where just watching it will cause your chest hair to grow by about 3 inches, than Cowboy Bebop is the show for you! Overall: 9.5/10

*WARNING! THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW WELCOME TO THE NHK*
By a show of hands, how many of you have felt lonely? Isolated? Shut-off from society? I better be seeing the whole lot of you raising your hands, because that's just a part of being human, and I don't care if you sleep with a million women a night, there had to be at least one point of time where you felt lonely. Welcome to the NHK is a show that plays off that lonely emotion we've all felt, and shows you what true isolation looks like.
Story: 9/10 - Welcome to the NHK follows
...
a "mildly" unstable 22 year-old Hikikomori/NEET named Satou. What is a "Hikikomori" and a "NEET," you ask? A Hikikomori (Japanese for "Pulling Inwards") is someone who spends their lives either locked in their apartment or in their rooms. They rarely go outside, and when they do, it's for basic necessities. And NEET stands for "Not in Education, Employment, or Training," so in other words... completely unemployed. And now back to the main character, Satou. He's been in his apartment as a Hikikomori for a good 5 years now, following the same daily routine of watching TV, playing on the computer, smoking cigarettes, and yelling at his Otaku neighbor for the loud music. This of course changes when a cute 18 year-old girl named Misaki and her Aunt knock on his door. They were both doing church service and were providing information on how to cure someone of being a "NEET." Misaki takes note of Satou's lifestyle, and invites him to a little "project" of hers, which is supposed to cure him of being a Hikikomori. Satou signed a contract with Misaki, stating that he will meet her at the park every night for counseling, and if Satou decides to cancel these meetings, he is forced to pay a hefty fine. Satou soon discovers that his neighbor was really an old high school friend of his (Yamazaki), and they decide to team up to make a game... a hentai game, that is! Of course, Satou slacks of with writing the plot, while leaving most of the work on his developer friend. The really cool thing about the storyline is the fact that is covers a lot of issues in Japan (Like suicide, Hikikomoris, etc.), and wraps it up really nicely. My one complaint for the show was the lack-luster ending. I really expected a lot more from this show than a "lets blame all our problems on other people" ending.
Art: 10/10 - The art is absolutely insane in every degree... AND I LOVE IT! There is no better way to show what's truly going through Satou's mind than to have his fucking fridge and computer come to life and lecture him on everything. They made a dirty apartment look like everything has it's own storyline, and that always amazes me that they were able to pull that off.
Sound: 10/10 - First off, the voice acting (both Japanese and English) is phenomenal. I really want to recognize Chris Patton and Yutaka Koizumi for their outstanding job at voicing Satou. And let's not forget the soundtrack. Honestly, there is no better soundtrack out there to smoke a cigarette too and think about life than Welcome to the NHK's soundtrack. Hitori no Tame no Lullaby and Gosui ni Tarasu Tsuri Ito are great pieces that really adds on to the tone of the story.
Character: 9/10 - I'm going to say it right now, the only character I truly liked from start to finish was Misaki. Is that a bad thing? No, because that's what the show intended on. Satou is probably the most relate-able character in anime history (for me, at least). However, there our times that I just want to scream at Satou: "Stop being such a fucking dick." And as for Yamazaki? He honestly made a great addition to the story. Was he annoying at times? Yes. But, he was also a great comic relief with his famous quote: "Begone dirty whores!" I honestly felt bad for Yamazaki that he had to give up his dreams as a computer programmer to work on a stupid farm. And the fact that he had the girl of his dreams hate him so she won't become heartbroken later was... well... I honestly don't know, that gave me so many mixed emotions that I'm still debating if I should respect Yamazaki for that, or hate him. And for our last major character, Misaki. Misaki was so sweet and lovable all throughout the series, who only wanted to help out Satou so she can feel like she has a purpose in this world. However, Misaki was kinda of the shows emotional punching bag. Between Satou's near suicide, abusive step-father, Satou's constantly being a dick to her, she deals with all the shit the show throws at her, and does a great job at it as well.
Enjoyment: 10/10 - There were points of this show where I was laughing my ass off. Honestly, this is probably the funniest anime I've seen yet. But, there where just as many times where it brought me to the brink of tears. This show is one giant emotional roller coaster, so be prepared.
God, I honestly can't even begin to say how great of a show this is. It has it's problems (*Cough* *Cough* No confirmation on Satou and Misaki OTP *Cough* *Cough*), but the show itself is so phenomenal and meaningful that I can't give it anything else than a... Overall: 10/10

*WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN MINOR SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 OF HIGH SCHOOL DxD*
What do you think of while watching the Ecchi genre? For me, at least, I think about how corny the story line is and how boring the characters are. I'll admit it, Ecchi shows don't interest me. Then came High School DxD, a show with a lot going for it, but the execution wasn't exactly the best. How do you fix something like that? Add another season of course!
Story: 7/10 - The story for the second season doesn't completely overhaul the foundation the first season laid out, but rather expands upon
...
it, which is a good thing in my opinion. It can get a bit silly at times, and often times the show does not know when to take itself seriously or not, but overall High School DxD has proved that even borderline porn can have a plot. While I would like to go over the general storyline some more, it has multiple arcs to it so going over everything that season 2 has to offer will take a lot more time than needed.
Animation: 10/10 - Wow... There is not a word I can say to describe how breathtaking the art is. When they are not flashing giant boobs in your face, they are displaying some of the most intense fight scenes that anime has to offer. I like to consider the fight scenes as "Beautiful Destruction", the world MAY be exploding... but it looks so damn awesome that you can't help to be amazed at the chaos. This is something High School DxD does best, it goes ALL OUT with the fight scenes, and it is truly a marvel to behold.
Sound: 8/10 - While the dub to this show (in my full opinion) is one of the strong points, the soundtrack could of been a lot more intense. To be honest, both of the intros to this show weren't exactly memorable, and the background music often leaves a lot to be desired.
Character: 9/10 - Wait, what?! An Ecchi show where the characters have personality? What is this? That's right. Something Season 2 did great on was expand upon Akeno and Kiba. Akeno became a lot more than just Rias' sidekick, and a lot of backstory was revealed about Akeno to prove that she isn't just a pretty sight. And as for our "Prince Charming", Kiba? He probably got the most character development this season than anyone else in the show. The thing that really made Kiba's back story depressing wasn't the fact the he abandoned his faith, but rather how his faith abandoned him. Also, there were a few characters that are new to this season. Let's start with Xenovia: Being a strong believer in the church, she set out with her best friend on obtaining the stolen pieces of Excalibur from a fallen angel, but in the process, she learned the ugly truth: God is dead. The church realized she has learned this and ex-communicated her, and with no where to run, she joined up with Rias and became a devil. One other character I would like to go over is the adorable vampire: Gasper. Gasper was born half-vampire and half-human, and as a consequence, he was stuck between both worlds. He wasn't strong enough to have the vampires respect him, however, he was also viewed as a "monster" by many of the humans. So our ol' friend Rias decides to take Gasper in to become her Bishop. The problem, however, is that Rias wasn't able to contain Gasper's powers and he was locked away, but now our shy little vampire makes his debut when his powers are truly needed.
Enjoyment: 10/10 - There is not much I can say to describe how much I enjoyed watching this show. When I wasn't laughing, I was engulfed by the insane amount of awesome fight scenes, or focused on Kiba's quest for revenge. Finding a boring point to this show is probably the second hardest thing the show will give you. If you catch my drift.
Overall: 9/10 - Was it a bit cheesy? Yeah. But, with a passable storyline, INSANE animation, great dub, likable characters (who are more than just eye candy), and an intense amount of enjoyment, High School DxD truly deserves it's title as the "King of Ecchi."

Please note: This review is for the FIRST SEASON of Heaven's Lost Property (Sora no Otoshimono) only. Season two and the two movies are not taken into account during this review.
Story: 5/10 - This is one of those anime where the boobs are bigger than the plot. The story to season one is simple: A robotic angel (Angeloid) who has the power to grant any wish named Icarus falls out of dark flying vortex that has been orbiting Earth for 13 months, and her only desire is to serve an oridinary perverted teenage boy who witnessed the crash. The boy (Tomoki), has been having strange
...
vivid dreams throughout his life where he sees a beautiful angel reach out for him before flying away, and he is dead set on determining why he is having these strange dreams. Also, another Angeloid named Nymph randomly appears shortly after. So with the powers of two Angeloids, Tomoki, his short-tempered friend (Sohara), the sociopath student president Mikako, and the knowledgeable nerd with the passion of flying (Eishirou), face the most harshest of challenges (like why Sohara's panties keep magically flying into space).
Art: 8/10 - This was my most painful score to give during this review. Why? Because the animation can be fucking mindblowing... when it wants to be. However, a lot of times the series spends time "beating a dead horse" with old chibi jokes. I personally find this really disappointing since the animation can easily top 98% of any other Shounen out there... but it chooses not to.
Sound: 8/10 - My biggest irritation with the sound category was the fact that Funimation decided to give Greg Aryes the role as the main role in the dub. I honestly have nothing against Greg Aryes, but when he is put into a main role, it leaves the viewers pulling their hair out listening to that typical voice. He makes a great "comic relief sidekick" voice, but nothing else. Besides that, the background music is pretty good and the intro is kick-ass to say the least.
Character: 6/10 - With the exception of Nymph, all the other characters feel so two dimensional in this anime. Icarus literally has the emotions of a robot, Tomoki is you're typical pervert that you see in every Ecchi anime, Sohara is also a fairly 2-D character with not much going for her, as she continues to stay in an abusive friendship with Tomoki (despite the hilarity that comes from the friendship).
Enjoyment: 10/10 - This is by far, the shows strongest point. The storyline and characters may leave a lot to be desired, but it sure as hell interesting to watch. This anime was so funny that it had me on the floor as my lungs forcibly ejected any oxygen from my body. The shear enjoyment of watching Tomoki's perversion backfire is always a marvel to behold, and when that's not happening, the show usually entertains with an awesome Angeloid on Angeloid battle scene.
Honestly, there is one reason why I'd suggest Heaven's Lost Property to anyone, and that's the shear entertainment value that's radiating from the show. If you are not a fan of cheesy-plot ecchi, however, this may not be the anime for you. Overall: 7/10

I'm going to be completely honest here... this is my favorite anime I have ever seen. Why you ask? Simple: (besides a few irritations) there is nothing wrong with this show.
The story follows two brothers who live in a corrupted country in a world where alchemy is possible. After their mother dies, they try to perform the ultimate taboo of alchemy: human transmutation. The transmutation backfires and the younger brother (Al) loses his entire body and the older brother (Ed) loses his left leg. In order to bring Al back, Ed sacrifices his right arm to bond Al's spirit to a suit of armor. Now,
...
with Ed having a mechanical arm and leg, and Al having a suit of armor for a body, they are willing to join the corrupted military in order to find a way to bring each others bodies back to their original form. Now tell me that story doesn't seem awesome to you? Story: 10/10
The animation is simply fantastic. Since FMA:B is considered to be on the more "shounen" side of anime, animation is key to it's success. And, boy did they hit the nail on the head with the beautiful animation. Art: 10/10
The dub is absolutely amazing! FMA:B has arguably the best dubs ever made. It is one of the rare instances where the dub is just as good as the sub, so watch it either way! As for the sound track? Oh my gawd... you haven't experienced true awesomeness until you've heard FMA:B's main theme! Not to mention that every single opening is absolutely breathtaking. Sound: 10/10
One of the things that makes FMA:B so awesome is that everyone has a purpose behind their actions, and there is no such thing as a "dull" character in this anime. Even the biggest antagonist have a goal they are trying to accomplish, making even the biggest villains lovable. Characters: 10/10
There is never a dull moment in FMA:B where they just sit around doing nothing. There are rarely ever any filler episodes (if any at all), leaving the show to become full of wonderful twists and turns that will drag you in right away. Enjoyment: 10/10
Does FMA:B have some flaws? Yeah, I guess. However, most of these flaws don't exactly work against the show as a whole. One of FMA:B's biggest flaw is the first ten or so episodes. It's not that they aren't interesting (trust me, they are) but rather they often can't tell when to be serious. However, even this flaw is something that anyone can look past, since the show itself is so enjoyable.
To recap, FMA:B is nothing short of a masterpiece. The story is touching and sends a meaningful message. The art is breathtaking, and makes the action scenes that much more awesome. The soundtrack is a masterpiece in itself, and the dub is critically acclaimed as one of the best dubs ever. All the characters have so much depth that it's impossible to hate a single character of this anime. Finally, the anime was just flat out enjoyable from start to finish, grabbing the viewers attention from episode 1 and becoming more and more interesting as the show progresses. Overall: 10/10

Angel Beats is an anime that tries to get their viewers to laugh at one moment, then sob the next (similar to Clannad), and honestly it does a really good job at this. Angel Beats is a very fun, goofy, yet deep story on self-redemption. It has a great message for it's viewers to live life to the fullest, because you never know what tragic accident could happen tomorrow. The "main" protagonist is named "Otonashi" as he wakes up to discover he is in the after-life (which is just a high school) with amnesia, and joins a group designated to fight this one
...
girl named Angel, who tries to get the kids to behave in the after-life. This group is led by a girl named Yurippe (who is really similar to Haruhi Suzamiya). Over time you learn about these characters lives before they died, and they are rather depressing. However, I have one major problem with this anime. It was too short for the number of characters they had. 13 episodes was not enough time to give all the characters a proper back story and resolution. Honestly, if Angel Beats was longer, I would of made the argument that this anime is perfect... unfortunately that's not the case. Besides that, the anime is definitely worth watching, because it is no doubt enjoyable from start to finish.
