First of all I didn't expect anything from this anime. As I read the description I thought " not another anime, show, movie, about fair tales... who wants to see this .... " But due to the lack of any good anime and thanks to a nice review I've read, I thought I will give it a try.
So I got hooked right away.
After the first minutes I wasn't sure yet if it was a childish anime or if it was made for a broader audience. After watching 12 epsiodes I can tell you its for a broader audience, so no worries!
Story:
Let me tell
...
you, its not 1001 nights as the description states. Its an anime which is set in ancient times (actually bit later propably in 1200..). Magi borrows names and phrases from various known stories like 1001 nights for example.
But this Anime has nothing to do with 1001 nights, only because the names are the same doesn't mean anything. So if you don't like simple fairy tales, dont worry this is all about a fantasy world in post-ancient times with a lot of magic. It also borrows things from other mythologies like Celtic mythology, Chinese mythology..etc.
The Story takes place in a time of chaos and where war ravages and the spirit of revolution is in the air. Where magic has awoken anew. Magic created dungeons all over the world. By conquering those dungeons you can get immense powers. New kings get crowned, people stand up for their rights and people go on adventures.
In this world the main protagonists; Aladadin, Alibaba and Morgiana; try to find their own ways and try to take part in these historic times.
Characters:
I think all characters are nice and you will get fond of them very easily. There are three main characters, which are very well done. Their development is not exaggerated and not underdeveloped. The characters have time to change but they stay true to their key elements. Even though there might be various anime cliches form time to time above all as Alibabas character design is considered, but the anime never got consumed too much into any anime cliches. Actually when you are at the brink of thinkin that this anime turned into another boring "Emo" cliched anime, it doesnt fail to turn the tables and get you hooked even more.
Art+ Sound:
I like the art very much, also how they portray the emotions of the characters, It makes you laugh sometimes and gives the anime a unique flair. The sound is nothing noticeable tho...
All in all, this Anime is really worth watching. It reminds me of those old epic anime I loved so much, and why I started watching Anime in the first place. But it only reminds me of if! It hasnt conquered my heart fully yet, Ive only seen 12 episodes so far there is still a lot of space above this anime and beneath it. I gave it 10 points filled with a lot of hope that it doesn't disappoint me after those 12 nice episodes. ;)

"Here lie the ruins of a civilization whose transgressions brought about its downfall centuries prior................................and for the survivors they clearly haven't learned a damn thing"..
This story evolves around a villain called Mizuno Kanta and a girl called Koizumi Taiko. The story takes place in a post apocalyptic earth in the year around 4000. Japan became a desert and the people live under very hard circumstances . Kanta is a so called handyman, which means he takes on any job (robbery, kidnapping, odd jobs, bodyguard, etc) to make money. But Kanta is not your everyday handyman, he is very successful and made a name for himself.
...
He is called the legendary desert ghost sonabouzo. On one of his jobs he gets to know Taiko , who becomes his pupil, together they do various handyman-jobs.
Unintentionally Kanta meets many more or less powerful ambitious people and gets into a conflict with the government, this all leads eventually into a rebellion.
Art:
The art was nice it fit the story
Sound:
Was very chilling and gav ethe anime a nice vibe.
Characters:
Kanta Mizuno: He is a villain who does anything for money. He is a psychopath who is obsessed with sex and he is ready to do almost anything to get it. He has a bitter heart and believes the only way to live in the desert is to abuse the weak and kill the strong. There is not much character development, but his character is well defined
Koizumi, Taiko: She is a 13 - 14 year old girl and Mizunos pupil. She is very talented and a quick learner. She is cheerful most of the time. She has some character development, but most of the time she remains in her role as pupil and later in the role as sensai.
Asagiri, Junko: She is a handyman. She is skilled and uses sex-obsessed man like Kanta to get what she needs for her job. She is cold-hearted and money obsessed. No charcter developemnt
The relations between the characters is nicely executed and it can be very funny which is a huge plus.
Enjoyment:
I found the show very enjoying. I would have given it a ten, it had real potential, the execution of story is good too considering that its another post-apocalyptic show..
but........ first of all there was no real character development and you always wait that Kanta change, but it will never happen. There is another major disappointment and that's the ending, this is one of those shows where you get the feeling that they just stopped in the middle of the show because they ran out of funds. The end is very fast-paced compared to the beginning, which si slowpaced, which make sit a bit unbalanced. The end is rushed and downgrades the whole experience.
Overall
I recommend you this because its something different you will see lots of villains interacting and you have a somehow nice plot. But you still will be unsatisfied because the ending fails.

So I feel like writing a review for this Anime because I saw some very negative reviews and I think this show is really worth trying. I have watched many .. so many Anime and its rare for me to really like a show. And I am not a fan of skc-fi..... and above all computer game sci - fi like hack sign for example (even tho hack sign was okay)
I haven't seen the whole anime yet, since only 5 episodes are out and if it just gets better I think its going to turn out to be a masterpiece, if it gets worse
...
its going to be a "very good anime"....
Story:
The story evolves around the main protagonist which is a fat small highschooler, who gets bullied. His self-worth is depended on computer games so he really rocks in one of those. The story is set in the future where everything works through computers.
But there is one computer system which surpasses all which came before it is highly developed and can influence space and time. This computer system unknown to the public is called Accel Word. Because of the main protagonist's computer playing skills he gets recruited by one of Accel Worlds's kings (actually a queen)
So the story begins the main protagonist sees many aspect of his life changed; his relations, his self-perception and his love- life. With one of Accel world's kings/queens he turns everything up side down and tries to discover Accel world's secrets.
Art:
I like the Art because the main protagonist for example is not your typical good-looking hero. And the heroine is also beautiful. The art itself is not outstanding but it is nice and has some really nice pictures to offer.
Sound:
The sound is good and fits the story but there hasn't been a remarkable piece of music yet
Characters:
The story itself sounds interesting, even tho I prefer non sci -fi. So what makes this Anime outstanding is the character development/interaction and the development of their relations. The main protagonist is a guy who is in a constant crises and turns away from his friends and is full of self-hatred. The heroine is an ambitious pro-gamer who finds herself in love. All in all the characters are well-defined and their emotional reactions are very good. Even tho sometimes maybe it might be too much. (Too much whining, but if that happens the main heroine steps in and balances everything out, so for me it was always the right amount of whining)
Enjoyment:
For me it was and is a big enjoyment. Because I like the mixture of the characters and the development of the relationships. But that wouldn't be enough for me for a great enjoyment: what makes it a great enjoyment and what is the icing on the cake is that it has epic battles and unexpected turn of events.
Overall:
I recommend this story.

Did you expect something great like Natsume Yuujinchou, which is also about a person who can see Yokais and moves to the countryside. Or maybe something like Mushishi a guy travels around and sees Yokais and spiritual stuff. Forget it, those anime are a whole different level in enjoyment.
Story:
A girl moves to the countryside, to her grandmother. The family is very traditional and strict, so the girl who can see Youkais and all kind of spirits must succeed the grandmother as the princess of her clan. This traditional family is backed and supported by more conservative family's from the village. The tradition says she
...
has to have bodyguards for her protection, those come from said conservative families. Those guys are all her age and visit the same school as her.
Art:
This is a weak point. Its an old style anime, which is disappointing, because in the genre of Yokais you want to see beautiful pictures like in Natsume or in Mushishi. Personally I dont like the artwork, I think its somehow flat, the main protagonist seems very boring (Looks like a boring version of Kaori in X-Clamp). The scenery seems very heavy and dark, which is bad cause it makes the story even worse.
Sound:
Not much to say, there hasn't been any special piece of music yet.
Characters:
This is a weak point. The main protagonist is your average boring Japanese girl. The characters aren't well defined. They all are very traditional conservative people. Also the reaction of the characters is too reserved for me above all form the main protagonist, if you consider her whole life has changed and that she all of a sudden was forced by the circumstances to move to her grandmother and not enough, that additionally she has to take over the role of the princess of the clan in a very cold household, you would expect her to have some emotional reaction. (I mean she is a teenager..) ...The others characters are the bodyguards which are also her schoolmates, one guy is always in bad mood and the other one looks younger than he is.
Enjoyment:
Either an Anime focuses on battles, or on some critical issue or on the characters, or it is just a good-vibe Anime like Mushishi and Natsume, but this Anime fails, it is a "boringvibe" Anime. The battles are short, the Youkais aren't explained well, I don't think the Anime has any political or emotional message and above all for me the artwork fails, so whats left? The story, I think the story could be somewhat interesting, but so far the execution is very bad.
Overall:
I don't recommend this show.

I have only seen two episodes so far, but I decided to drop it, you can see where this anime is going. A romance between the two main characters and some fights to save the world.
Why did I drop it? I don't know it myself exactly, but the whole anime feels like a dejavu. If I am watching an Anime with a plot like this, which is your average boy meets girl and save the world plot, I expect a nice execution and outstanding characters, but it fails in those aspects. This show's main characters are two kids who play kiddy love, the main
...
protagonist is a bossy guy who has some aggression-issues and a girl who wont stop to talk nonsense......This show has no comedy, the battles are boring and the protagonist lack deepth.
The art is decent and the music as well. I think some people might like this show, but if you are looking for something special , then don't watch this anime, you will find better anime than this.

Story:
I have to say this Anime has everything a good sci-fi show needs, so it seems. A political unstable situation, kingdoms, empires, pirates, a talented new captain, companies and battles. But.............................. . . . . . . . . .
The story evolves around a teenage girl who one day is all of a sudden faced with the decision whether she wants to take on her deceased father's job as a captain of a pirate cruiser or if she wants to remain an honor student
...
at an elite high school. She takes on her father's job and becomes a so called legal pirate. The story is very slow paced and there isn't much development and no serious storyline. The next 18 episodes you will wait and wait and wait for a serious turn of events or a deeper story but this will never happen, instead you will see "the pirates" taking on one ridiculous job after another.
If you have seen Irresponsible Captain Tylor or Legends of the Galactic Heros and you expect something like that, you will be disappointed.
This story is about a crew of people who label themselves pirates and take on some missions in the name of an insurance company and thats about it.
Art:
The art was okay, nothing special. It fits the story.
Sound:
The sound was refreshing and gives the show an easy touch, so you somehow can enjoy the flat storyline.
Character:
There are some enjoyable characters in this show but all in all u have your stereotypical Japanese anime characters. The main protagonist lacks deeper emotions and ambitions. She is talented and "a born captain".
But the show has no seriousness in it, it fails in showing deeper facets of the characters, there isn't any serious character development, because there arn't any characters only superficial stereotypes. The interaction between the characters is as if you were watching a big happy family. You have your typical anime stereotypical relationships.
Enjoyment:
If you are looking for nothing serious and nothing funny, than that's your show, you will have some interesting episodes and some u will probably skip.
Overall:
If you are bored and Anime addicted its a show you will probably enjoy, or if you haven't seen many shows yet, this show might be somewhat special...
Anyway I wont recommend this show to anybody, if you have something else you want to do, do it...
