Both are coming of age stories set in the future. The young protagonists of both shows learn that the world they know isn't all to it and the outside world is dark and dangerous. Both shows start off shrouded in mystery and cheery but become pretty dark and complicated later on. Both shows are very exciting and are very good shows. If you like either of them, I highly recommend trying out the other as they are pretty similar!

Made in Abyss

Both shows are quite similar: - protagonists are children - shows how the protags grow up (mostly in maturity-sense for MIA) - seems innocent on the outside but becomes really dark afterwards - death is everywhere (plot armour is non-existent) - protagonists don't know much about the world they live in (mysterious world) - worlds are dangerous - really good soundtracks - fantastic art These two shows are so similar you'll find interest in the other if you like one of them:) have fun

If you liked either one of them it's likely you'll like the other if you give it a shot :)

-Set in a post-apocalyptic world -Main cast are coming-of-age children -Main cast is in the dark of the world around them -Adults conceal the real world's nature but the children find out anyway -Adults and children are treated like different species -Outside world is dangerous -Lovely BGM If you liked the world of DARLING in the FRANXX and want to see something similar, it's definitely Shinsekai Yori Shinsekai Yori is darker than DARLING, so if you liked FRANXX's mysterious vibes you'll love Shinsekai Yori. Whereas, if you want a little light-hearted fun and comedy amidst a mysterious setting after Shinsekai Yori, give FRANXX a try!

Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Maid Sama! and Special A are so similar in many ways. Misaki (Maid Sama!) and Hikari (SA) are both from poorer backgrounds. Both are capable of fighting and self-defence, have good grades and are admired by lots of people in their school. They are always trying their best to do better than ever. However, Usui (Maid Sama!) and Kei (SA) are in their way to reaching 1st in the cohort. No matter what the girls do, the boys somehow do it even better effortlessly. Despite this, the girls keep trying their best to outshine the boys. What the girls don't know is that the boys secretly like them but are too dense to realise and later too embarrassed to acknowledge. Watching Special A is like rewatching Maid Sama! and vice versa. Both shows have comedic elements, in similar settings and have similar characters. For me, I felt Maid Sama! was a bit slow to get to the actual story while Special A just jumped into it in the first episode. I also personally feel Special A's ending feels more conclusive while Maid Sama!'s seemed like a cliffhanger, like they wanted to do a sequel to the original but ended up not doing it or something. However, both shows are really entertaining and worth a watch! If you liked Maid Sama! I'm pretty sure you'll like Special A too, and vice versa :)

Darling in the FranXX

- Characters from DARLING in the FRANXX seem to be inspired from AnoHana, both personality-wise and design-wise - Saori Hayami and Haruka Tomatsu voiced main characters in both shows - One of the arcs in DARLING in the FRANXX seems like the storyline of AnoHana - Original work from the same studio (A-1 Pictures) - Both shows are about relationships among friends/people around them One negative thing both shows suffer from: Awful pacing HAHA But this doesn't stop both FRANXX and AnoHana from being overall awesome shows :) I watched FRANXX first although AnoHana came out first and these similarities ^^ made AnoHana feel like FRANXX if it was set in the present day. Have fun watching!
