(THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS)
I usually don't write reviews for series I finish but for this one, I had to. This was the biggest wasted potential I've seen in a series yet. Survival anime like this one usually tend to be pretty bad and I started the series with that in mind, I wasn't expecting much but then it amazed me. It started off pretty good and interesting, but then the writers mid way were like "f*ck it I give up" and ruined it.
Story (5): The story was pretty straight forward, bunch of people are sent on an island and are forced to kill each other
...
to survive and leave. The episode starts off with the main character "Sakamoto" gaining consciousness while hanging on a tree with his parachute open, not being able to remember anything he randomly gets attacked by a person with the intend to kill. I think this was a perfect introduction to the anime. When I was watching this I was so excited for the ending, to find out what is the reason behind this game and for what purpose it was created. But no, unfortunately it turns out we will never know. The story ends unfinished with more questions than answers, they had the chance to make the perfect ending and wrap up the story but they just ruined it. Overall the story was pretty cliche and I predicted almost every situation perfectly, terrible writing and wasted potential in the story in every way possible.
Sound (7): The opening and ending were pretty decent and catchy, enough to make you excited for the anime. But the OST was pretty average in my opinion. Nothing too crazy.
Character Development (5): The character development (besides the main characters) was pretty garbage.I will take this character for example, I forgot her name but the girl from the previous name with her left arm cut was the worst character in the entire series. Seriously she was just a copy of Himiko, she saw a male and immediately started going crazy with the intend to kill him, why you ask? Because the person that betrayed her in the last game was a male, who would've thought! Later on we see that person who apparently got sent back to the game for a second time, that person was called Date. I could see it from a mile away when he met up with Taira, Himiko and Sakamoto that he would meet his partner from the last game too (the Himiko copy of which I spoke earlier about). Once she got the chance to stab him from behind when he was approaching Himiko she just hesitated and stabbed him on the back instead of the head which would've killed him, if she really wanted to. Then later on instead of killing him she lets him live and takes him under her care. She was going to kill Sakamoto and stab him in the head without hesitation but she let the man she hates most live? Really?
Enjoyment (8): Surprisingly I was really enjoying this series even though every situation was very predictable and the writing was terrible. There was like 4 situations where the writers wanted to make us think the main characters died but actually they saved themselves and lived, wow who would've known! Not to mention only one of those situation was well written and actually surprised me, the others were just lazy writing and the cliche "I took his bomb and threw it away and then I hid from the explosion". Even though the writing was terrible I still enjoyed it, but that is because I like these type of survival series, regardless if the writing is terrible or not, that's why I started watching this in the first place, knowing that it's gonna be bad.
Overall (6): Overall this anime had potential to be the greatest anime of the year but the writers ruined it. The concept was a brilliant idea but then the writers just abused it and repeated what was supposed to be "plot twists" countless times. I think you will enjoy it if you're like me who likes series with a survival element to it (e.g. The Promised Neverland, Attack on Titan etc.) but do keep in mind that the writing is bad and you will predict most of the stuff that happen.
