Both are depressing works that primarily feature mental health issues, psychological scars, and interpersonal relationships at the forefront.

Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari
add

A man takes on the role of a father to a child that he did not bear. The child has an effect on the man, making him softer and more empathetic, and over time we see their relationship grow and develop into a true father/son or father/daughter relationship. Both are calming slice-of-life titles, and Udon no Kuni has excellent art, especially with the scenery of Kagawa. I recommend both if you are feeling down, or if you're not.

If you liked
Nana
add
...then you might like
Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin
add

The idea of starting from the bottom to rise to the top is present in both Rainbow, which features inmates of a reformatory striving for success in the real world, and Nana, where Nana Osaki strives to reach mainstream success. The sub-storyline most similar to Nana is that of Yokosuka Joh who has raw musical talent and strives to make it to the top.

If you liked
Black Lagoon
add
...then you might like
Durarara!!
add

Both feature a motley crew of sinners, of people who fight, kill, or conduct shady deals for a living. In Black Lagoon, the main characters are modern-day pirates. In Durarara!!, many characters are gang members, part of the black market, or just plain old thugs.

If you liked
Kokou no Hito
add
...then you might like
Nononono
add

Both feature incredibly naturally talented (in some sort of winter sport) protagonists who face competitions and have their own pasts to deal with. Nononono is more ecchi, however, and includes a cross-dressing element.

If you liked
Servant x Service
add
...then you might like
Ase to Sekken
add

Both are romantic comedies featuring a female main character who has a complex of some sort. In Servant x Service, Lucy Yamagami has a complex about her long name, and in Ase to Sekken Asako has a complex about how much she sweats. Both female main characters also have glasses and are certainly well-endowed. Both male main characters can be gentle and nice, though Hasebe in Servant x Service tends to be more of a tease. Both are light and heartwarming. It is important to note that Servant x Service is a 4-koma, while Ase to Sekken is not. In Ase to Sekken, there is more of a focus on the romantic comedy aspect, while in Servant x Service, there is both romcom aspects and general slice-of-life in the office atmosphere.

Sanctuary

...then you might like
Fourteen
add

Both of them showcase the dirty, power-hungry world of politics. Sanctuary is completely a political thriller, while Fourteen involves many politicians working hard to keep their own power during crises. Both are must-reads!

If you liked
ReLIFE

...then you might like
Yesterday wo Utatte
add

Both male protagonists look very similar and begin stuck at a deadend part-time job. Both series also focus on their relationships with the people around them. I got really similar vibes to ReLife in this first episode of Yesterday wo Utatte.

Gal to Kyouryuu

Both are slice of life comedies about adults who are working, though Servant x Service has working at the centerpiece. Both also involve romantic relationships, though without the melodramatic baggage.

Gal to Kyouryuu

Both series feature short chapters without much text, featuring one or more short, comedic scenes. Both also have an energetic female protagonist. Both will leave a smile on your face and are perfect to read after a long day.

Both are extremely colorful and have a similar art style. The setting is also similar and both start with a person finding themselves in a new place they'll have to adapt to with their own special skills.

If you liked
Usagi Drop
add
...then you might like
Kakushigoto
add

Kakushigoto explores the familial relationship between a dad and his daughter, while Usagi Drop explores a similar relationship (except the dad is not actually the father). Both are about single, working dads who have to balance out their lives and who love their daughters very much. Both also have some sort of quirk in the families. In Kakushigoto, the father is an erotic mangaka who has to hide it from his daughter. In Usagi Drop, the daughter is actually the "father's" grandfather's illegitimate child. As it looks like, both are designed to be heartwarming, though Kakushigoto is more comedic.

...then you might like
Nande Ikiteru ka Wakaranai Hito Izumi Sumi 25-sai
add

Both feature women who have mental illnesses (or hint at women that have mental illnesses, whether they be anxiety or depression) that somehow try to experience life. Both also do feature continuous suffering, though WataMote is more of a dark comedy. Both do experience some progress in their lives - making new friends, exploring new hobbies, and that sort of thing, though WataMote involves more, long-standing progress and Nande Iketeru involves small hints of it throughout, since it is shorter.

If you liked
Annarasumanara
add
...then you might like
Sambong Barber Shop
add

Both manhuas involve a high school girl who meets someone with supernatural, magical powers that offers them hope to move along. Sambong is more comedic, however, and Annarasumanara is more emotional.

If you liked
Mayoiga
add
...then you might like
Hinamatsuri
add

Both of them have extremely absurd comedic situations, but Hinamatsuri does this on purpose and tends to be more comedic, while Mayoiga does this by accident. Either way, situations crop up that are strange, wacky, and absurd, that'll keep you laughing, either on purpose or by accident.

If you liked
Gintama Movie 1: Shinyaku Benizakura-hen
add
...then you might like
Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan: Kanketsu-hen
add

Both of them are adaptations of specific arcs of popular gag mangas. Additionally, there are the overall similarities between the two shows - very comedic, with focuses being on the quirks of characters and the special quirks of the MCs, which are both lazy and sweet-toothed but powerful and sometimes... kinda attractive! And, they're both not that long to watch, but you should watch them in the actual order of the series (for Gintama and SK).

Gintama

...then you might like
Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan 2
add

More so than the first season, the second season of Saiki Kusuo includes short arcs in its storytelling that closely parallel that of the whole Gintama series. In general, both Season 2 of SK and Gintama feature similar storytelling, similar humor, and similar strengths in characters - particularly in each character's eccentricity, especially the main characters themselves. After all, both MCs basically have a show named after them :)

Two cool and calm characters who have basically supernatural powers work, in small ways, to alleviate situations around them, and end up with their own fan armies.

If you liked
Akatsuki no Yona
add
...then you might like
Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo
add

Both main characters embark on a journey to meet and befriend (or perhaps collect) humans with supernatural powers - whether they are witches in Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, or Dragons in Yona of the Dawn. Both also have some elements of romance, though it's more present in Akatsuki no Yona, and both have harem/reverse harem situations. Akatsuki no Yona is more dramatic and historical, however.

If you liked
Hyouka

...then you might like
Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo
add

Both shows involve main characters who are bored with their lives and have relatively low passion and/or energy. They eventually join a club, whether it's the Classics Club or the Supernatural Research Club, and all the fun begins. They get to spend time with a possible romantic interest and are dragged into all kinds of fun mysteries.

Steins;Gate
add

Both are thrillers that will have you guess at every turn. What's happening here? Who am I supposed to trust? Is this character mentally insane? You have to have patience to watch both series, and they're both suspenseful. But all will be revealed in the end, dear viewer, so continue to watch! And they're both amazing series in my book :)

If you liked
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

Inuyashiki
add

Both involve supernatural, or extremely powerful characters with the power to cause immense good and immense harm, and, I will not spoil, but both anime end with a connection back to outer space, if that's vague enough for you ;)

If you liked
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

...then you might like
Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!
add

While they don't seem alike on the surface, both shows deal with human suffering. Watamote, however, is suffering for comedy (aka dark/cringe comedy) and Madoka Magica is more dramatic. Both are amazing shows in their own right!

If you liked
Uchuu Kyoudai
add
...then you might like
Carole & Tuesday
add

Both contain a science fiction theme, whether underlying or right upfront. Both also involve sets of characters that bring themselves up to become more successful or more famous, as well as characters who are already well ahead but struggle with their own psychological inner beasts as both shows go onwards and upwards. The sole difference is that Carole & Tuesday deals with celebrities, while Uchuu Kyoudai deals with astronauts.

Skip Beat!

...then you might like
Carole & Tuesday
add

Both stories involve a single girl or a group of girls that gain experience in the world of show business, learning about the ins and outs of it while slowly becoming more and more famous. Skip Beat, however, has romance, while Carole and Tuesday has more of a science fiction element. If you like hearing about celebrities, idols, and show business overall, you'll like either anime, because both feature characters who are thrown into the limelight!

If you liked
Planetes
add
...then you might like
Carole & Tuesday
add

Both are set in the future and explore an underlying science fiction theme. While Carole and Tuesday involves music and Planetes involves a trash collection job in space, the effects of technology on the characters' jobs and lives are significant. In addition, both have similar vibes in terms of the bonds between each of the characters.

If you liked
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
add
...then you might like
Kokoro Connect
add

Both star a group of high school students in a small club of just themselves. There are supernatural elements in both anime, but Suzumiya is more lighthearted than Kokoro Connect, which tends to be more psychological and explore deeper themes.

If you liked

Himegoto: Juukyuusai no Seifuku

Himegoto is like the grown-up version of Hourou Musuko. Both contain people struggling with their own gender identities, though Hourou is a bit lighter and more childish.

Both have the same depressing but oddly calming atmosphere. You know that it will be the end. Both will give you some level of sadness, but not the kind that will make you cry loudly; the kind that will make you suffer in silence.
