Both shows focus on rookies joining a new sport, a MC with a past of sports who quit for varying reasons and melodrama. They’re both very much “sports slow burn” with our characters not playing until almost the end of the show, with very heart racing and climatic scenes. They’re both great for the melodramatic sports slow burn fans, and show an awesomely under shown sport each. (Although, it should be noted, these are both "sports slow-burns" with little sport action and focus on the characters more so - go in expecting sports as a theme and not the main plot!)

Although OVAs are from different series, both are focused on a new team member and older team member bonding. If you’re a fan of both series, or a fan of one and want to give the other a go, both of these have similar feels, enjoyment seeing two characters get to know one another and some lovely humor amidst training scenes!

Despite their different settings - modern Japan chef school + 19th Century China - both of these have a hilarious view on cooking. Whilst following the gorgeous cooking skills of our main characters, both have to partake in almost ridiculous cooking challenges, in true action form, against god-level chefs in the same challenge expertise. Both are funny, enjoyable, slightly nail biting and hilarious.

Whilst both these animes focus on different spots, they focus heavily on one character ‘retiring’ from spots and returning to a new team/different sports team and helping bring the team to new levels; both are enjoyable on the format of "the underdog strikes back" in a different way to the usual "im too small/etc to play this sport but im the prodigy of my generation". Whilst it may be a struggle if you’re into the specific sport that each anime features, I’d recommend giving the opposite a try; the plots and characters are fun and enjoyable!
