To be quite honest, a lot of the people giving this anime a low score are doing it out of rage. This anime isn't as bad as it seems.

The anime was not written or directed very well. They should've started the anime with some background on the relationship between Leticia and Clarke. The main reason why Leticia wasn't allowed to leave was solely because of her older brother, not Clarke. This was established later in episode 8. He is the whole reason, Clarke did mention wanting to let Leticia leave, but the brother disagreed.

Leticia mostly wanted to leave due to her princess lessons ... and not because of Clarke. I mean, this is in the title! Plus who would want to be tortured by some mean old lady instead of being outside? Keep in mind that Lettie grew up in the country and would spend the majority of her time outside frolicking in the fields. Going from frolicking in the fields to being locked up and forced to take princess lessons would make everyone want to escape. In episode 10, she says "I was so consumed by my daily duties, I think I forgot something very dear to me," further proving that Clarke wasn't the issue, but instead the princess lessons.

Clarke has done everything in his power to ensure that Leticia is nothing but happy. Clarke hasn't experienced the outside world, so everything he does is due to him being extremely naive and sheltered. In episode 8, Clarke even explicitly said he wouldn't make a move on Leticia unless she said it was okay. Episode 10 also provided more background information on their relationship, it was obvious they both had feelings for each other.

I personally found this anime to be funny and interesting, but also a bit frustrating. I would recommend it while keeping in mind that women didn't have free will when this anime's timeline was set.

Also, from what some of the manga readers have said in the forums, the anime glosses over a lot of important details and additional background information.

Characters are likable, some more than others.

The music is very well written and definitely helps with certain scenes

The animation is definitely lacking and the characters do look bloated or bubbly.

Most of the film was a recap of what had already happened during the 3rd season. We assumed the other half with the information given during the entire Fruits Basket series. Nothing new was really said, except we got visuals for it. Baby Tohru was the cutest though. I will say I'm a little disappointed. We did get more insight on Kyoko's relationship with her parents, same with Tohru's dad. There were some uncomfortable scenes due to the large age gap, it was basically grooming. I mean Kyoko (Tohru's mom) was in junior high when she met Katsuya, while he was an adult. I think ... he was 21. I did cry through most of it though. This was probably best suited for someone who hasn't seen the anime and wants a general summary of everything that happened. Someone else said this and I agree, I wish I hadn't seen it to be quite honest. Again, it did make me cry but I was disappointed in the relationships and the film. And as another user said, it made me dislike some characters. There was really no point in the film. I'm surprised it has such great ratings. This is coming from someone who LOVES fruits basket. Take it as you wish.

I meant to post this a while back ago when I finished it back in March but here’s my first review. The first episode already has me in my feels with the whole crying is not a sign of weakness. I honestly was pretty turned off by the drawing and his eyes. I started crying halfway through the second episode to be honest and mostly through the entire anime. This anime really tugs at your feelings. This kind of hits home because the editor says, “to be able to act like a kid for a little while. Kids shouldn’t have to be so mature. They ... should just enjoy their childhood”. I resonate with this because I had to grow up faster than most people my age because my parents depended on me so much while growing up as a child. I don't think I had a lot of fun while I was growing up because there was so much expected of me. I like that this anime touches on abuse. I do not like that Mizuki just left out of nowhere. It does a really good job of showing how much child abuse can affect a child. Kotaro blames himself for what happened with his dad and says that it was his fault for the way his dad treated him. Overall this anime did a good job at portraying what child abuse does to people. I felt so many emotions in each episode. At the end of the day, Kotaro just wanted to feel loved and cared for and the side characters did a good job that showing him that he is needed and appreciated. The only thing that bothered me was Kotaro’s eyes, they were pretty creepy and stood out. This anime is something I will always appreciate and love because it hit home in many aspects and I could see myself in some of the characters. I do hope that there will be a second season!
