While the plots are not at all similar, the aspect of the main character's search for her history and acceptance by others is a strong theme. Also, there is a strong sense of "sisterhood' between the main character and the supporting character, mysterious supporting characters whose intentions are not immediately clear, and a few plot twists along the way. Where Key lacks action, Kurau provides plenty of it, and the fact that Key is set in the present day contrasts with Kurau's futuristic world.

The general feeling of the worlds are kind of the same, and you'll have the same kind of emotional response during each movie. Again, you have 2 boys and a girl who are childhood friends, but where The Place Promised does not involve a love triangle, Wonderful Days does. What they share is a sadness to the love story, and a sense of lonliness. The same kind of soundtrack and silence and general directing/artistic style are present in both

The similarities here are loose, however the mood is much the same. The color palette and art style are similar, particularly the use of muted almost washed-out colors with strong dark overtones. Both are set in a near-future timeline with a post-apocalyptic twist. The difference is that where Ergo Proxy has a strong, linear plot line, Texhnolyze's plot is somewhat disjointed and very far from being direct. For those that love a story you have to watch a couple times before understanding what it's trying to get at, Texhnolyze is an obscure must.
