This anime from the viewpoint of Hikigaya, a loner student, gives harsh realities of school and life in general. It was rather an unusual comedy anime for me. There were hilarious and clever moments that usually are result of extremely blunt comments of our loner Hikigaya. It was truly fun to get to know Hikigaya. The art is no unusual, rather it is usual and nothing spectacular so I did not realize too much of it. There are few anime there that get better as it goes. Hyouka is one of those few. As the anime goes on you better understand the style, characters and story. It is truly a beautiful anime. Even though there is not so much action it is not a slow anime that is why it's great for just relax enjoyment.
Also as an old Christie fan, I felt quite nostalgic while watching. The mysteries are definitely mostly Christie style. I actually found Oreki's way of solving things quite similar with lovely little Belgian Poirot who uses mostly his gray brain cells rather than running around and ... Dec 28, 2015

The anime brings nothing new, there is nothing outstanding but still I think it is worth to watch. Maybe the best quality of the anime is that beautiful art is vowed with beautiful music.
They apparently tried to give very abstract emotions with colors and music. At the first there was places that are funny but later it got incredibly slow paced and emotional which did not affect me at all because I found some of the characters incredibly passive (Arima) or assertive (Kaori) which made me annoyed. So after 15th episode I was watching just to finish the anime. Especially after one point the ... |
