The plots are quite similar, just Princess Tutu is also appropriate for younger ages. Both revolve around a magical girl who learns that magic and her reality aren't quite as pure as she thought- and they both get quite dark- and you can argue Madoka's ending and Tutu's ending are quite similar. A deconstruction of fairytales and the magical girl genre. Both have some bodily horror, and a good friend who gets corrupted.
