Both shows is competitive where some characters have superpowers, so its more about interesting match-ups and how these superpowers clash in various situations than it is actually about the game. In both, the school is aiming to be in the the best in the inter-high, and the MC has some kind of connection to the reigning champion.

Both shows are set in a post-apocalyptic world world where people live on isolated islands, and the people have an enemy that they must defeat (in SukaSuka it is the beasts; in Gargantia it is the hideaze). Although the themes portrayed are different, both main characters are soldiers living in an environment unlike others living there and struggle with finding what is most important in life.
