In both we follow a young human girl who is found by chance by an old non-human who takes them under their wing. Throughout the story of both we watch as the guardian learns through their experiences with the MC, and growing attached even when that was not the plan. Though, the bond is more romantic in Mahoutsukai no Yome while it stays a father-daughter relationship in Somali to Mori no Kamisama.

K

Both series havea main character who seems the definition of naive, a character normal in most every aspect. But in both cases there is something unseen behind the scenes, a secret yet unknown. In both you get to see a variety of viewpoints, both switching from time to time to focus on different characters and aspects of one huge puzzle; though Durarara definitely is more complex than K in that aspect. While things may not make sense at first, by the end you will get to see all the pieces come together forming an amazing story.

Houseki no Kuni

In both we follow the newest member of a colorful cast of characters who cannot fully explain their origin or purpose. We follow this MC as they try to find their place in their world, battling themselves with their low self esteem. Both focus heavily on character and world-building; though I will mention Haibane Renmei does so a bit more slowly and gently, while Houseki no Kuni is more harsh. Both are a visual masterpiece in their own right, with great soundtracks to match.

Both of these anime are based on Visual Novels wherein a female protaganist has several males vying for her. While not too great on their own, if you are a fan of their source material or just wish for some shallow romance than these both will do the job.

Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku

Much like Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru, Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku is a another anime within the Mahou Shoujo/Magical Girl genere. They both make us think about where these powers Magical Girls are given are from, and are these beings really benevolent? Who is to say what these girls fight for is "right," even when others are hurt? In fact, why does everyone simply follow this logic that young girls must be the ones to carry out this duty, perhaps at the cost of their lives?

Much like Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica, Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru is a another anime within the Mahou Shoujo/Magical Girl genere. They both have compelling stories about the nature of wishes and fighting for what you believe is right. They make us think about if what we fight for is really the "right" thing to do. And for those who have hidden truths from us, is it truly out of malevolence? Are their motives really so evil, or are they simply misguided, and if so do we really have the right to hate them?
