Like most isekai, this one has a ton of people who can't stand it...and they mostly couldn't stand the first season, either, so I don't know what they came back for. If that was you, leave now.
If you liked the first season, though, you'll be totally satisfied. It continues from the end of the first season seamlessly--it feels more like a part 2 of a season than a totally different one.
The things I care most about are world building, music/sound, and character development. Airifureta excels at all three. The music and sound design is just as great as season 1. The opening theme
...
isn't quite as good, but it was always going to be hard to beat "FLARE".
The world building is a more unique concept than most isekai--without going too into detail, it's more in line with Shield Hero in that all is not as it first appears.
What really drew me in, and continues to hold my attention, is the character growth that is a big focus. The first two episodes are all about Hajime's growth as a person, dealing with the loss of his friends, trying to wrap his head around one of them betraying him, and sacrificing pieces of himself (quite literally, some of the time) in order to survive.
It's classed as a "harem" anime, technically, and while there are elements of it (and plenty of fan service, if you're into that), the story holds up on its own. Personally, I find these moments to be more like a comedic or light hearted interlude, but I'm sure they would bother some people. It's not ecchi, but it's rated MA for a reason.
Overall, it's just FUN to watch. I've rewatched the first season more than once and I'll probably do it again at some point. Super pleased with season two so far!

Okay...so, I've written a few reviews, but never for a series that I'm only 4 episodes into. I'm watching the dub because I'm one of those people, so I've learned to be VERY patient. Still, I don't want to wait six months before reviewing.
To start, I really love the premise. The MC is the brother of the Hero. On their way to kill the demon lord or whatever, one of the members of the party tells MC that he's trash and holding everyone back, etc. MC accepts this and leaves. Most of the time the viewer is following the MC as he goes about his
...
life, and it has major slice-of-life vibes, which I appreciate. It gives us time to get to know him and the people around him.
We also get small glimpses into the Hero's party without MC. Things aren't great. Seems like everyone loved MC, respected him, and really wants him back, except for the guy who told him to leave. It was somewhat unclear to me, but I believe the Hero didn't know that her brother was TOLD to leave. She seems kinda pissed about it.
Meanwhile, MC is living his life and having a great time, actually not broken up at all about not being in the Hero's party anymore.
So far it's a very character-driven narrative and I really appreciate that. The character building is on point. A lot of "adventurer's guild fantasy"-style stories are really lazy about writing believable characters, recently. But the shows that have stood out have focused more on the characters and their relationships than on the setting/only big fighting scenes.
I expect there to be more shonen and less slice of life in future episodes, but I like where it's going.

Once again, we've got an isekai that everyone hates just for being isekai. I realize there's a huge number of people on MAL who tend to dump on any isekai that doesn't "do something different" or whatever, and it's really the only reason I'm bothering to review this.
While I haven't finished yet, I did watch the first 8 episodes in one sitting, so that's pretty telling, in my book. I'm a big fan of the isekai genre and I don't set out looking for every anime that I watch to dazzle me with new ideas or concepts, and Hachi-nan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou fits
...
that.
Is it going to blow you away with new ideas, a unique approach, or the most interesting plot you could ever imagine? No. Is it entertaining and overall an enjoyable experience? Absolutely. While this probably won't ever be one of my FAVORITE shows, it does exactly what you might expect.
To be honest, I think the story would have been improved overall if it WEREN'T an isekai--the only references, really, to the MC's previous life comes in the way of the foods he creates, like miso and nori. Beyond that, he might as well have always been the 5-year-old boy that he starts out as in the new world. (btw if you're the type of viewer who gets cranky about time skips, don't even start--there are two multi-year time skips by this point in the series).
Is he a little overpowered? Sure. Is that a problem for me? Not really. It's feel-good anime, and since we're still in the middle of a world-wide pandemic, that's totally fine with me.
I'm a fan of the art style, and the music is pretty good, especially the opening theme. It's not ~the greatest thing ever~ but I didn't expect it to be. It's perfectly adequate and I've enjoyed everything I've seen so far.
Overall, I would say its weakest aspect is the plot--by episode 8, there's not really any GOAL that the MC and his party are seeking. No Demon Lord to trounce, no political machinations to worry about...and honestly, that's okay. It's almost like a slice-of-life author randomly decided to write a fantasy-world isekai, and this is what they came up with.
It's pretty cute, there's enough humor to keep me entertained, and I look forward to finishing the season up tomorrow. Unless something monumental changes by the end of the series, I'll finish it feeling pretty happy having spent my time on it, and ready to start something new. It's nice to be able to watch shows that don't really BRING THE DRAMA sometimes, especially right now.
That said, I understand that my opinions on MANY recent isekai don't match up with most MAL reviewers, so if you're the type of viewer who demands innovation, lots of character development, and a spider-web of a plot, you won't be getting it here. But if you're just looking to watch something light-hearted and mostly enjoyable, that doesn't require a lot of brain power, I say give it a try. There's WAY worse shows out there, and I'd say this is at least better than average.

I really enjoyed this show. Reading reviews, you'd be led to believe that it's a completely soulless, just-another-isekai anime, but I really think it goes beyond that, and I question whether many of the reviewers actually watched all 12 episodes.
I will also say that I personally have a pet peeve with these people who can't handle isekai being the setting. JUST BECAUSE IT'S AN ISEKAI DOESN'T MEAN IT NEEDS TO BE GENRE-BREAKING OR TRANSFORMATIVE. IT CAN JUST BE AN ELEMENT TO THE STORY. It's a trope used to set the scene. Get over it. "Oh no, not another isekai"--nobody's making your watch it. Pack
...
it up.
This is a show about a boy who struggles with the idea that he's not worth anything, and that each human life has a determinable value. Since he's at the bottom, he understands that he can be tossed aside at any moment, that he doesn't matter.
All the main characters struggle with personal growth, and challenges, though it's primarily seen through Yūsuke's eyes. There's also a larger mystery surrounding the exact nature of this world-traveling, and we're continually trying to figure out what exactly is going on.
This seems to be an overarching theme of the anime: too many questions, not enough answers. The reward at the end of each quest is that the characters get to ask the game master one question, and inevitably the resulting answers only lead to more questions, questions that the game master won't answer unless you complete a quest.
PS - it's got good music!
