Okay, I don't exactly remember how long it has been since I wrote my last anime review; so I guess I'll resume the same with this one.
It's only been 10 episodes, 2 more to go till the series meets its end; but still... I'd like to be frank in here.
Poco's Udon World is something you don't get to come across everyday. It is one of those slice of life anime which I would refer to as 'Calm' and 'Beautiful'. The feature that distinguishes this particular anime from most others of the similar genre is that it is actually 'KAWAII' and 'HONEST'.
This very series which deals
...
with the life of an ambitious web-designer who abandons his place and family business and migrates to a bigger city in search of opportunity.
The story line isn't anything extraordinary although the part where he encounters this 'Tanuki' or 'Raccoon' which has supernatural ability to transform into a human is something we don't come across everyday. This inclusion of this main character named Poco, actually has made this anime worth watching, provided the cute voice casting of this 'KID' and the innocence reflected thus.
All I'd say that this is one of those perfect anime one can watch without any hesitation or reluctance after having a hard day outside.
A perfect anime for relaxation and tranquility; perfect for watchers of all ages; although it has been rated PG 13 or older.
From me, it is a must watch. YES! I am recommending this, although I fail to get it why it has been underrated.... anyway, have fun watching this, people....
THIS ANIME WILL SURELY MAKE ANYONE SMILE
one of the best, in fact the best anime of Fall 2016 in my opinion.

The series was good, no doubt and it does make a fair watch for all those watchers who are into animal-related anime series. The plot is a strong one, owing to the sequence followed in the manga; unlike the anime version where focus has been laid on only a part of the actual story.
The series carries a number of criticisms, a few of which are:
- The characters from the prequel have been showed to have deteriorated a lot.
- The present characters aren't of that strong framework.
- The reason why Hougen waged the war against the Ohu still remains unclear.
- The emergence
...
of Genba is abrupt and absurd.
- The leader, Gin - who defeated a BEAR gets beaten down by a BUNCH OF DOGS, miserably.
- The death of Hogen has been shown in the anime while in the manga, Hogen is shot by a police officer.
- The anime features Jerome's death but in the manga Jerome has been shown to have been captured by Victor, which makes the plot a bit controversial.
- The behaviour of Ben, who was Gin's mentor in the prequel deteriorates down to that of a stupid fellow which gives him more of a clown-like appearance.
- Ben and Cross' other pups haven't been given any feature or a background story.
- The death of Chuutora hasn't been given any importance although he played a significant role in the prequel.
- The series consists of a lot of unnecessary dialogues.
and many more.
In short, the series couldn't live up to its reputation in terms of enjoyment and plot compared to it's prequel.
Moreover, the entire plot of the manga hasn't been pictured which makes it an incomplete series in a way.

A spectacular tale of love, honor and firefighting in ancient Japan. The story revolves around the lives of two different people –

a young man and a woman – belonging to two different family backgrounds and going through two different circumstances in their lives. The short film is based on a true incident recorded in the ancient manuscripts of Japan. The tale speaks of the desperate and the adamant nature of human heart which results in a dreadful end due to ignorance. The artwork and animation is well-maintained throughout and the animators have tried their best to make it look like a tale told through scriptures.

The story depicts the understanding nature of both human and the animal hearts. The short film depicts the desire to fight for the righteousness and to protect the one who is important at any cost, in an uncompromising manner. The story also reflects the ignorant nature of human heart which makes oneself a pessimistic. In short, ‘a coin has two faces’ – has been well depicted in the short film. TITLE – The Garden of Words [Alt. Title – Kotonoha no Niwa]
RUNTIME – 45:51 minutes (approximately)
DIRECTOR & WRITER – Makoto Shinkai
DEMOGRAPHIC – Seinen
PLOT Summary:
The Garden of Words is considered a romance and drama film. It opens at the start of the rainy season in Tokyo with Takao Akizuki, a 15-year-old student and aspiring shoemaker, opting to skip his first class and sketch shoe designs in the garden at Shinjuku Gyoen, where he encounters Yukari Yukino, a 27-year-old woman who is skipping work and enjoying beer and chocolate. When she notices the school crest on his uniform, Yukino bids him farewell with a tanka
...
(a form of Japanese poetry), leaving Takao puzzled as to its origin and meaning. The two continue to encounter each other and socialize in the park on rainy mornings, but never formally introduce themselves. After Yukino expresses an interest in Takao's shoemaking, he decides to make a pair of shoes in her size. With the end of the rainy season, Takao stops visiting the park and focuses on his work. The story begins taking twists from that point on and the consequences follow as such. Takao comes to know about Yukino’s whereabouts from his fellow classmates and friends and the series of events follow as such.
The credits show Takao barely passing his final exams, but still working towards his goals, while Yukino moves back to Shikoku and resumes her teaching career. In the epilogue Takao revisits the park that winter, reads a letter from Yukino, places her finished shoes on the bench and then vows that he will go find her after he has made progress with his career.
Plot Rating: 8.75/10
ANIMATION & GRAPHICS:
Like other Japanese anime, The Garden of Words was created using a combination of hand-drawn animation, rotoscoping and computer animation (CGI), with the latter facilitating the realistic appearance of the film's rain sequences. Half of the film's backgrounds were made by using photographs as bases and then drawing over the top with Adobe Photoshop, while the other half were fictional settings created with traditional animation and computer graphics. As with the other films of Makoto Shinkai, the backgrounds are vivid and meticulously drawn scenery while the characters are drawn with less detail, though they are still convincing and realistic.
The animation and graphics part of the film gets a rating of 9.0/10 for the realistic effects.
GENRE/THEME:
Drama, Romance
Two common themes among Shinkai's films, including The Garden of Words, are subtle romances and lingering emotions. However, this film's focus on "lonely sadness" (koi) was interpreted in a couple of ways. The loneliness is seen at the end of the film, when Takao learns to cope with Yukino's move to Shikoku. Luke Carroll at Anime News Network felt the end of the rainy season and the resulting separation created the sense of koi.
MUSIC:
The theme song, "Rain", was written and composed by Senri Oe, and was originally a popular Japanese song in 1988. Shinkai enjoyed listening to Oe's song regularly while attending university, and since one of the film's themes was rain, it was the first song that came to mind while he worked on the production. He particularly liked the song because its lyrics reflected daily life, much like the film. The song was remade for the film in 2013, and sung by Motohiro Hata. Shinkai met Hata on several occasions and noted a similarity between Hata's passion as an artisan and that of the character Takao. Shinkai also felt that Hata's voice was perfect because to him it carried an "underlying loneliness" and "sounded a little like an anxious young man".
I give 8.0/10 for the music.
OVERALL REVIEW:
The plot designed to picture the short animated film was, according to me, a perfect one which has the ability to touch the sentiments of any person who watches the film carefully. The story is set as such that the protagonist meets his special someone in the garden, just by mere luck and thus, the garden becomes the spot for the meeting of both of them. The story of the two begins with a Tanaka and ends with one which reveals that the Tanaka had a special role to play in bringing the two closer. Hence the title, The Garden of Words, according to me, is the most appropriate one for the story. There is a manga as well as a Serial Novel adaptation of the short animation anime film as well, written by Makoto Shinkai, both of them having 1 volume each.
IMDB Rating: 7.6/10
My Rating: 8.6/10
NOTE:
In the manga illustrated by Midori Motohashi, scenes were either added or slightly modified from the anime version. For example, after the conclusion of the rainy season, Takao was unable to visit the park during the only rainy morning that summer because he had scheduled to visit the footwear college he wanted to attend, disappointing Yukino who had hoped to see him in the park. Also, at the conclusion of the story, Yukino is seen wearing the shoes Takao had made for her.
[A faint clap of thunder,
Clouded skies,
Perhaps rain will come.
If so, will you stay here with me?]
[A faint clap of thunder,
Even if rain comes or not,
I will stay here,
Together with you.]

• Kyogoku Tei [Voice Casting: Natsuhiko Kyogoku (Jap); Neil Kaplan (Eng)]
The above provided list of characters is set according to the order of their appearance in the entire series. The characters are well-illustrated, undoubtedly. Now, a little highlight of the above mentioned characters is given as follows:
• Momosuke Yamaoka: The protagonist of the entire series, whose profession is to write riddles for children. He gets fed up with his profession and decides to explore the country all over and write a hundred ghost stories which he later, decides to publish as a series of novels. But in his journey, he meets the various circumstances where he gets involved in various incidences involuntarily and faces the various forms of truth, which terrifies him about the real nature of the world he lives in.
• Ongyou: A mysterious trio of spiritual beings who claim themselves to be detectives who are investigating the strange happenings going on all around in the country. They claim that their job is to find out the criminal and penalize him for his wrong doings, following which; their souls will be sent to the place where they may rest in peace for ever after.
o Mataichi : He is perhaps the leader of the trio. He is called the ‘Trickster’ by his team-mates. He refers to Momosuke by calling him Mr. Author. He is a charm-caster by profession, who sells talismans to people. He is a mysterious short guy who resembles a mummy by looks and always carries a staff, like a priest. His behavior is depicted as that of a calm-minded, quiet and reserved gentleman, who doesn’t like to talk much. He likes to eat and is taunted by his fellow team-mate, Ogin every now and then for his mysterious and unpredictable nature. Every episode ends with Mataichi’s words of Wisdom echoing in the atmosphere, which are brought to a full-stop with this phrase: ‘To the other world, we commit thee’. He even warns Momosuke not to follow him and his group or else he would face a fate and beyond that, something terrible.
o Ogin: A beautiful-looking girl who is also called the ‘Puppeteer’ who has the job of luring the criminal to the scene where he/she either breaks down mentally and confesses the entire truth or just kills himself/herself. Her true identity remains hidden till her past events are narrated by a woman in one of the episodes. She teases Momosuke by calling him a ‘pervert’. It is seen that with the passage of time, Momosuke develops a certain sort of feeling for Ogin, which is revealed in the end when Momosuke wants to travel to the ‘other world’ and spend the rest of his life with Ogin where he is made aware of the different fates the two of them share. In the end, she is teased by Mataichi who, being aware of her feelings for Momosuke, teases her.
o Nagamimi: In the series, he is called a ‘Shapeshifter’ as it is seen that he possesses the ability to change himself into anything. He always keeps smiling, which makes him look weirder than he already is. He is pictured as a tall and stout man with a good muscular physique who always carries a long pipe with him in his mouth. He has the duty to act as the medium that brings the entire case in the light.
• Tsutaya: He is a small chubby creature who is Momosuke’s publisher. At the start, he Is shown to be pissed by the change in the decision of Momosuke to stop writing the riddles for children, but later, he agrees to aid the protagonist in his work.
• Heihachi: He is the co-worker of Momosuke.
• Hermits:
o Black Hermit
o White Hermit
These two hermit ladies work as the messengers of an entity names Kyogoku Tei, who is supposedly the boss of the Ongyou, whose identity remains under the shrouds till the end. On occasions, they are seen to change themselves into young girls to trick the Ongyou into doing what they want them to. They are accidentally destroyed by the main antagonist in the last episode.
• Tatsuta: She is a young lady who has the record of killing her childhood friend Shiragaku out of jealousy of her love for her would be husband. She thus earns the name of a witch, ‘Hi-No-Enma’ who is rumored to kill anybody who loves Shiragaku. She plays an important role in the series as she acts as one of the main assistants of the antagonist, which is revealed in the end.
• Kyogoku Tei: He is the main antagonist of the entire show. His identity and his intentions are revealed in the last arc of the entire story. Knowing his true intentions, even the Ongyou decide to act against him and do the rightful.
For the character illustration along with the voice casting, I’ll give the Anime a rating of 9/10.
Opening and Ending Theme:
Opening Theme Song – ‘The Flame’ and the Ending Theme Song – ‘Moment of Love’, both were performed by Keiko Lee.
I’ll give a rating of 8/10 jointly, for both the opening and the ending themes. You all should listen to the OSTs.

Jin Roh~The Wolf Brigade:
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade or simply Jin-Roh (人狼 Jinrō?, lit. "Man-Wolf") is a 1999 Japanese animated feature film directed by Hiroyuki Okiura. The film is the third adaptation of Mamoru Oshii's Kerberos saga manga, Ken-Roh Densetsu, after the two live action The Red Spectacles released in 1987 and StrayDog: Kerberos Panzer Cops released in 1991 in Japanese theatres.
The film takes place in an alternate history in Japan during the 1950s where Germany has conquered Japan. Kazuki Fuse, a member of the Panzer Cops with the rank of Corporal, is sentenced for not following an order to kill a suicide bomber. Along the
...
way, he meets Kei, a girl who initially claims to be the suicide bomber's sister and they develop a relationship. However, this relationship proves to be dangerous for the Kerberos Corps.
Mamoru Oshii, the creator of the Kerberos saga had desired to make Jin-Roh years earlier as a live-action film. However, Oshii decided that the film would be animated, and hired Okiura to direct the film and Production I.G to produce the film. The film premiered on November 17, 1999 in France, and Bandai Entertainment licensed the film for an English-language release in North America and Europe.
- taken from Wikipedia
Story/Plot: 10/10
The plot or the story of the movie ‘Jin Roh ~ The Wolf Brigade’ deserves a rating of 10/10. At least from my side it does. The story deals with immense suspense which will force you to smile at the end with a look of astonishment over your face saying that you didn’t let your time go a waste on something which doesn’t even deserve the minimum applause.
I hope you all have gone through the story of the ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ in your childhood days. Those who haven’t, for them:
- The story of the ‘Red Riding Hood’ deals with the journey of a little girl dressed in red, walking through the path amidst a dense forest, who was carrying some stuffs for her granny or mom; who lived in a house which lay at the end of the forest road. She meets a wolf in her way that wants to gobble her up at once but fails to do so. Thus knowing of Red’s journey to her mom’s abode, the wolf takes down an alternate path and eats up her mom before she reaches her home. In the mean time, the wolf disguises as Red’s mom, waiting for Red to come up and makes specific plans to gobble her up.
The above simple story is framed too beautifully as the foundation or the spine of the movie. It deals with the same sequence of events, but till the end, it remains suspense for the viewers that who is fighting for the wrong and who is struggling for the right side of the circumstances.
We can also conclude that the entire plot deals with the tactics on counter-intelligence and instincts. I’ll recommend you all to go through it at least once. I bet you won’t be disappointed.
- personal analysis
Character Designing: 9.5/10
The entire movie was pictured in the past when there was still riot and struggle going on in the streets of Japan due to the mismatch of opinions between the pubic, the terrorists, the police force and the Capital Police Organization. The movie was aired in the year 1999. So according to the time, the character designing is fantastic. Besides, the features like innocence, shrewd mindedness, etc. which are important assets for the support of the publication of the movie are beautifully pictured in the faces of the characters as per its time.
- personal analysis
Artworks: 10/10
As already stated in the ‘Character Designing’ section,” the features like innocence, shrewd mindedness, etc. which are important assets for the support of the publication of the movie are beautifully pictured in the faces of the characters as per its time.”
So, no more comments regarding this part.
- personal analysis
Script/Dialogues: 10/10
The opening phrases and the closing dialogues are very well-prepared. So, no comments about them. They are so perfect that it seems they descended straight down to the earth from the lips of the forest gods… the opening phrase:
“This thing is like a wolf
This thing is a wolf
Thus, it is a thing to be banished”
States, or is more inclined towards the actions of the Capital Police Task Forces, which were decided to be shut down by the Govt. Police Authority. That appears to be the main theme in the beginning.
Then there were these (perhaps a few of my favorites):
“We’re not men disguised as mere dogs. We are wolves… disguised as men. The hunters kill the wolves in the end… only in the tales humans tell.”
But the ending dialogues:
“This is where you should end the tale of a beast involved with a human. End it all now while you’re still a beast. “A long pause in the dialogues when the climax scene takes place and after that, “And then the wolf… ate up Little Red Riding Hood.”
These dialogues clearly bring out an inner meaning which lies hidden in the movie. It also brings out the ironical aspect of the movie. I won’t describe it for too long, you should watch it yourself. That will bring more fun to it…
- personal analysis
Animation: 8.5/10
As per 1999, the animation is okay. But the animation includes a few dull scenes too, where the proper movements of the body parts don’t appear to be clear enough. I mean, there are some scenes where the movement of the forearms gets too slowed down that it appears as if they are puppets. It was my assumption that there was some sort of problem with the players, but then I realized, that was the style of the animation after I played the movie in more than one machines. However, so far as actions are involved, there are not much of them to bring enough entertainment to the ‘action-lover’ viewers. Overall, it could have been better.
- personal analysis
Overall Rating: 9.86/10
No more comments regarding this finalized ‘Rating Section’.
All over, I’ll say only this much that I had downloaded this movie on December 31st, 2013; sharp at 06:45 PM and wasted my January 1st, 2014; watching this movie and in the end, I’ll say only this much that it wasn’t a loss or wastage of anything at all. I also posted a photo in the group regarding this and promised to come up with a review as soon as possible. My apologies to keep you all waiting this far.
Rest is all up to you people. Enjoy guys…

Manga Review: Basilisk (also known as ‘Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scroll’)
Genre: Romance, Tragedy, Action, Supernatural, Historical, Adult
Writer: Masaki Segawa
Director: Fumitomo Kizaki
Publisher: Kodansha
No. of Chapters/Issues/Volumes: 34/34/05
Original Run: February 2003 – July 2004
Anime Television Series -
No. of Episodes: 24
Runtime: approx 24 minutes per episode
...
Original Run: April 12, 2005 –September 20, 2005
Synopsis:
Basilisk is, if you all know about it, the name of a lizard species. Legend has it that if anyone would, even for once, look or peep into the eyes of a legendary titan, King Basilisk, he/she/it would be turned into stone at once. The incidents are somewhat similar to that of the Greek folklore which speaks of Medusa the Gorgon.
The story in the manga is picturised in a similar manner. There are two main characters in the series namely, Gennosuke Kouga and Oboro from the Iga Ninja Clan.
These two ninja clans, the Iga and the Kouga are supposed to be the sworn enemies of each other since the beginning of the time, despite the fact that they derive their origin from the same blood. A peace treaty has been made between the two clans by the well known Historical Figure, Hattori Hanzou, with the co-operation of the then Shogun in the 16th Century A.D., which is later, broken down by the clan leaders, who end up killing each other in the very first chapter. A scroll is given to each ninja clan which contains a list of the TOP 10 warriors appointed by the clan leaders, each from the Iga and the Kouga, who possess unique skills which make them more terrific than the normal foot soldiers. After the leaders kill each other, they strike out each other’s name from the scroll with their own blood and perish. Thus begins the battle between the two clans as the peace treaty has been broken, which means the Kouga and the Iga are free to kill each other. :D Sounds funny I know…
Meanwhile, the ‘would be leader’ of the Iga, Oboro is in love with Gennosuke Kouga, who were supposed to get married in the near future. I won’t say anything further and provide spoilers. Read the Manga to know more. It is indeed a cool one with a fair Storyline (It is an irony-filled Love story actually).
I’ll give the story a rating of 8/10.
Character Illustration & Artworks:
There are only a handful of characters in the entire Manga. The List Includes:
Iga Tsubagakure Group Leader, Iga no Ogen; Yashamaru; Oboro; Azuki Rousai; Mino-Nanki; Hotaru Bi; Amayo Jingoro; Akeginu; Yakushiji Tenzen; Chikuma Koshiro
Kouga Manji Daini Group Leader, Kouga Danjo; Kazamachi Shougen; Kouga Gennosuke; Udono Josuke; Jimushi Juube; Muroga Hyoma; Kasumi Gyobu; Asaragi Saemon; Kagero; Okoi (Asaragi Saemon’s Little Sister)
I’ve named them in order of their Appearances in the Manga. I’ll give a rating of 10/10 for the character designing, as all the characters are illustrated perfectly as per their special Ninja Skills.
The artwork is also good, as it is in all the manga. So, 10/10.
Dialogues:
Well, the dialogues are well-written, but there are a few situations where it appears that the story is following a slow pace. So, you must not get impatient.
A rating of 6/10 for the dialogues/script.
Overall Rating: 8.7/10
WARNING: The Basilisk Manga is a terribly great one but it is full of MATURE CONTENT. So, watch the Anime/ Read the Manga, on your own risk. It is strictly meant for people above 18. Rating is ‘A’. Soft-hearted people, stay away from it as it has a lot of violence and blood as well. The Anime Series is Totally Based on the Manga. There is no change in the story and the Scenes…
