As one of the most important sports for Japanese people, it is not surprising that there is a manga dedicated to one of the most influential clubs in the world. Despite the good quality of the Barcelona F.C squad, the same cannot be said about this manga.
Being a one-shot, it is not surprising that the story has to go through some adaptations in order to remain relevant to the reader and at the same time fulfill its function. The real problem lies in this last part, after all, for a work published in a manga magazine it looks a lot like a half-baked article from
...
a magazine of football curiosities. To better understand this statement it is necessary to realize that each arc of this story is just the author reading information from some "Wikipedia Article" about an important aspect of the club at the time the manga was published. So it's not that the story is inaccurate, just that the reader could be better informed and entertained by watching YouTube or Tik Tok.
If the story was bad, imagine the artwork! First of all, it must be said that the artist in question ISN'T horrible, but rather that his work in THIS project can be considered the lowest point of his career. To understand how bad it was, I checked several times about the year and magazine in which this was published and still could not believe it. The best way to describe it would be as an extremely amateurish artwork that sometimes could easily be confused with something coming straight from a book called "How to Draw Anime".
About the final considerations, I don't recommend anyone to read this unless you are a Barcelona F.C fanatic or a fan of low quality manga. If you want to learn more about the team, it's best to look for a video on the Internet or watch a documentary.

After the huge success that was Hoshi-iro Girldrop and Hoshi-iro Girldrop: The Movie, it was necessary to produce more works to profit from the franchise. It's in this scenario that Hoshi-iro Girldrop: Comic Anthology anthology appears, one of the manga industry's most ambitious projects, summoning legends such as Osamu Tezuka, Go Nagai, and Junji Ito to produce a series of disconnected stories in the rich universe of Hoshi-iro...
But seriously, Hoshi-iro Girldrop: Comic Anthology is one of the most interesting ideas that has ever passed through the manga world. The concept of producing a compilation of stories based on a Pop Team Epic meta joke is
...
something that fascinates me (although the opening segment of the first episode of Pop Team Epic and the "disinformation" campaign were also very impressive and a little bold to be realized).
Being an anthology it is hard to judge the story aspect, but in general each one of them is very entertaining and some even expand the original meta joke idea. The selected authors really knew what they were doing and even though they aren't big names in the industry some are well known and loved.
About the art, it's a matter of personal taste, because as each story has a different author, the artistic aspect varies a lot (some try to replicate how the manga would look if it were real and others simply make the drawings more simplified to focus on a more comical aspect).
In the end I loved the manga, even though there are better anthologies on the market and there are some stories that I didn't like very much, this anthology has a special place in my opnion due to its peculiarities and very funny moments.
P.S. In my opinion the best chapters are those made by Fakkuma, Hatopopoko, bkub, Imai Tetsuya and Romancing Abe

It is tough to analyze Himesama "Goumon" no Jikan desu due to its nature of being a Gag Manga, but it is always worth a try.
First off, you need to understand that there is no real progression in the story (except for a few sporadic chapters) so the pacing is extremely tiring if you like to binge-reading. In a normal work this would be an extremely negative point, but due to the proposal of the manga it is understandable that this occurs even if it is exhausting.
The story boils down to an eternal cycle of a princess being tortured by various kinds of torture (mostly
...
just food). Therefore, the main characters tend to be only the princess, her talking sword and the torturer of the day. In the beginning the pattern was:
- Torture begins,
- Princess tries to resist,
- Torturer shows a new perspective on the method of torture,
- Princess gives in to her wishes,
- A ridiculous secret is told,
- Reaction of the demon king.
As time goes by, in order to avoid further exhaustion and to focus on its strengths, the author begins to cut some steps from the formula by either drastically reducing the princess's resistance or by removing the details of the revealed secret and the demon king's reaction (the story even recognizes this change and makes some jokes about it).
About the characters, it is possible to say that they really fulfill their roles and are, to a certain extent, very memorable. The author's solution to avoid a deterioration in this area is to promote a rotation of torturers, which allows the princess to have different interactions in each chapter and that the development of the characters can be reduced in a coherent way. It really works, especially if you read the work sporadically.
About the art, I consider it average with some moments where it becomes quite good (usually involving the culinary dishes of the chapter), even so I believe it fulfills its role.
Overall, I recommend the work even if it is not the best gag manga out there.
P.S. The best character in the manga is the Maou!
