Why so many drops/3 episode rule?

My reasons for watching anime have changed over the years. When I was very young, I'd rewatch the same 10 episodes of Naruto over and over with rapt attention. I didn't know what 'anime' was, but I was enthralled by how it made me feel inside. The music, the visuals, the silly faces and sound effects. I was in love. In middle school I met friends who loved anime too, and, because I wanted to be able to keep up with the conversations (and the shipping, all the shipping.) I'd often sit through anime I didn't really enjoy just to 'check it off the list', or force myself to binge a bunch of shows to keep up with the amount my friends were watching. It became almost a badge of honour overtime, and I kind of lost sight of why I had enjoyed the medium in the first place.

Luckily, I've grown since then, ditched the 300 year long 'to watch' list, and now I just watch shows I think I'll enjoy like anyone else. Best of all, I no longer force myself to finish things I'm not liking.

So you may see my drop list grow quite a bit, as I do like to try to watch the first few episodes of most of the new seasonals before making a choice. I'll also be paying a lot more attention to source materials rather than relying on reviews for what's hyped.

Each season I watch the top 15-24 anime of the season, giving each anime 3 episodes before I make my choice. Let's see how it goes.
