Are short reviews still a thing?
Art and animation is really good. Lots of nice smaller details animated, however a little too much at times.
Sound was very fitting and didn’t feel out of place meaning it did well but not memorable.
It was enjoyable overall, however like many anime, MC IS USELESS/SPINELESS causing character development and story to suffer for a whole season. Imo, this is the bane of anime. In the end, I felt like the story was just starting to kick off at the end of the season.
To be simply put
Very solidly made anime except story and character.

I'll keep this somewhat short...
This is the definition of butchering a good start.
Started off well, then turned to a pile of hot mess.
In the latter half, they screwed the pacing, cripple the character abilities, and screwed it all basically to make up for the lack of drama due to OP characters. What a shallow way to add drama.
Normally this would have gotten abysmal reviews for half of what I mentioned. But I'm not going to tug further on this tail of the community.
Would love to see a comeback on season 2 on a better execution of this anime however.
...
ps Please stop heavily rating an anime based on another anime (similarities/did better etc), but rather rate an anime based on the actual anime. The rampant spread of this attitude makes MAL scores untrustworthy. eg. Nothing worse than seeing decent animation etc. getting rated bad because it didn't do as well as another anime -_-

Everything in a nutshell:
Don't you hate it when a good anime skips bad4ss parts, rushes the anime, skips story, doesn't explain changes that were skipped, annoying characters, characters changing "character" every now and then, confuses you for no reason etc.
Like all the bad things... Except compile it into one anime, imagine how bad that would be?
Well imagine no more!! Now available as Tokyo Ghoul:re S2
No really, it is actually really bad and leaves you confused as hell, with no more badass action scenes, unexplained story/characters/etc… basically an utter mess that should’ve never released
It barely deserves a review, but here you go
2/10 Overall
That's all!
...
Why did I even bother to attempt to review *Rolls eyes*
RIP Tokyo Ghoul

Wow, this was refreshing, really refreshing.
Disclaimer:
In contrast, my review(s) will most probably be a very different to common opinions.
I do consider myself an "otaku" of sorts when it comes to anime. However, I never board the hype train, I don't usually compare anime with other animes ("It's copying" "Inspired by"), and I don't bring my expectations from other animes. I find that destroys the best possible experience from watching anime as you've already judged it because of another anime.
I do not like to lable things cliche/generic otherwise I'd consider most anime generic/cliche. Cliche is better than unique stupid imo.
My review
Story: 8.5
Development, progression, transformation. That's what
...
this story is. When you finish this anime, you'll realise that you've just been taken on one hell of a ride.
However, it does include the annoyingly ritualistic beach scene which I lable as cliche.
It starts off really simple with a "small" scale plot which then evolves and becomes a bigger picture and with the last few episodes it explodes into like a universe scale which was well paced. The end is typical but bittersweet as I wished it ended differently (everyone reunited). However, it does close the story which I feel is more important. A start with an end whether it be a chapter or season etc.
Also, a story that doesn't tell you much backstory/information is much better than a story that tries to give backstory etc and ends up giving you trypophobia. (For the "lacking info/backstory" people)
Characters: 7
Balanced - They're not all spineless and/or useless (which I despise) but also not too crazy bold or blatantly overachieving at every corner. They go through moments of highs and lows which develop the characters throughout the story well. Also, I love that the characters do not dwell on a single issue throughout the whole story and you actually see relationships develop, crumble or solidify. I feel like we need more anime where are relationship develops and actually hits off (eg. relationship development, marriage/together, then post marriage/together)
Art: 8
Spectacularly smooth and colourful with lots of detail even on the smaller details. I don't think I saw scene recycling, if there was, I was probably distracted by the good art style and colours haha
Music:5
It fitted with most scenes but that was pretty much it. Pretty non-memorable.
Voice:9
The voice acting was well done dynamically and fit well with the characters expressions.
Enjoyment and overall:9
The every changing progression of the story kept my attention and no super annoying characters made it quite enjoyable overall

I'm going to keep this short, really short.
I'm not fond of writing, but there is a great chance of me commenting/reviewing when there's alot of bs.
I've bit the bullet and started watching Macross from the very beginning and completely... almost completely love it.
The review:
The art is really cool and lovable but art reuse could have been toned down but other than that, the music is awesome and great to listen to, the characters are all lovable (almost) and developed well, the story is captivating and continuing in expanding in space. Everything* is really good, honestly, you should watch it, even if you're not into
...
old anime or old art styles (Like me). Some experiences are worth the compromise of your comfort.
(Wow wth, how did I come up with that, I'm convincing myself x'D)
****
TLDR
****
Ok, enough review of all that stuff. Here's the punch.
Everything is great
BUT
the drive of Basara is driving me insane.
When I encounter a character who believes fighting is not the answer, will get in the way and will sacrifice thousands of innocents for their way of "peace" to me is like the insane person who becomes the accessory to mass murderer. I'm not going to butter it. That is Basara.
Peace is only possible because someone has defended that peace. Fighting is always going to be inevitable because there's so many different kinds of people that no one is going to completely understand each other - not that completely understanding each other brings peace either, so saying peace purely without fighting (Basara) types of characters drive me insane.
Review/rant done. Will pick this up this anime at a later date, still love it except 1 character.

Everything was there... yes, cliche and fan service too -_-
Everyone just looks at the clicheness and judged it.
Take a look again in absence of the cliche. <----
It's better than many if not good.
Story:
It has everything a story needs and is definitely solid. It has conflict, climax, and a very good resolution.
There's easily 3+ conflicts well mixed with a climax building on top of each other and ends closing up the instability within and outside the group.
People should get past the "I don't know so I don't like" mindset etc. This story without a "backstory" and "development" did a better job than those with an open
...
ending and draggingly long stories imo. Not everything needs an explaination. That's what makes this different. (See next paragraph) It doesn't drag on like a b*!$*! explaining, backstorying, flashbacking like crazy. Sure those are good, but not in everything all the time. Lets be honest, this is better than your normal action movie... obviously not as realistic though.
For those that don't finish the anime and say everything is unexplained with no character development obviously never finished the anime. Those get answered and developed along the story and come together at the end.
Characters:
By the way, the intro should give you enough backstory anyway and the backstories of most characters were shown.
The haters that say there's no development just hate the cliche characters, there's definitely character development.
I don't hate cliche/unoriginal stuff, but rather just dislike them.
In the end characters were more closer, feelings told, mysteries revealed, and friendships renewed.
The characters individual development were very solid and improving in character without drastically changing the core characteristics. That's better than a character who changes what he/she is on a whim because it appeals better. This was more solid than more popular.
Art:
Too many people are salty.
Forget all the cliche and story and look at just the art. It's not amazing, but neither is it absolute crap. Get ahold of yourselves people, because you hated the stories and characters so much doesn't make the art absolute garbage.
Saying the art in this sucks destroys many popular anime too, chill.
In the end I enjoyed this more than many other anime believe it or not, tonnes more than Steins;Gate for example. (Ready for the hate)
But don't get me wrong, this anime annoyed me too with character unrealistic stupidity and stubbornness. But then again, this is more of a "throw me some action less story, idc if it's cliche" anime/movie/series which many people enjoy. (Obviously not many in MAL or anime)
In many aspects this is a better anime than many imo, it's just cliche with action that you don't have to figure out.
Chill people.
If you're looking for my score on this, it's overall a 7ish all lost to clicheness and other minor things.
It's better nailing a cliche movie/series etc. than trying to be interesting and turning "meh" (Still try different things though)
Extra bit:
Should end here. I don't usually say that as I usually want more, but the anime wrapped up nicely so I don't see a point in a S2.

Super advanced technology and fighter mechs with alien tech and ships but really bad communications technology... What?
My logic died. But then again, my logic could be wrong.
You'll have to look past the art since it's a 2002 anime. It's probably very good for its age.
The story however is heart wrenchingly good EXCEPT another open ending! And that just ruins it. *Expresses rage*
Other than that, there's so much packed into the short episode its amazing. The story brings the feels and the music pulls you in. An awesome experience watching... till the end.
Would've given it a higher score if the writer was bold enough to finish
...
a story instead of ditching his job/story to the reader. But that's preference.
If you love heart-aching love stories in long-distance relationships with an ending you want to make up, it's perfect for you.

It's very interesting and different story wise. But I cannot get over the fact that this anime is basically a flimsy MC that basically goes around fixing problems for people... again and again. That doesn't hold attention very well. It's like doing something repetitively and expecting something different each time. Also, he doesn't
Music was pretty average and somewhat out of place at times and at other times it was well put. It's really good when the music pulls you into the mood which it didn't quite do.
But the way the scenes are shown definitely gave it the "mysterious" vibe with the quick walls of
...
text, I'll give it that.
Near the end, it became a story instead of just "running around fixing problems rpg game style".
That I was definitely happy with, but maybe a little too late.
No, I don't cover many aspects in my reviews and neither is it perfect. You won't die

It was a very hard anime to get into but it did get interesting. The earlier episodes were a bore but did set a base for a part of the anime with random pop ins from someone in the earlier episodes to keep things a little different.
I feel however that this anime could have been alot more meaningful and much better. The story is good, but that's just it. The pairing of the main story just didn't fit right. The alternate episodes were much more fitting and would have made a better storyline than the main story. Watching the alternate endings hit home and made
...
me feel the lows and the punch of romance while the main story line was mediocre.
It's just another anime, but thanks to the alternate episode/s, I won't forget this anime.
I hope the After Story is good.
