Reviews:
I like expressing my thoughts but have trouble translating to words. So you'll usually find my reviews succinct, possibly quite different to the norm and may be quite different to popular opinion. So don't expect anything too fancy, intricate or extravagant.
I do consider myself an "otaku" of sorts when it comes to anime.
However, I never board the hype train, I don't usually compare anime with other animes (eg the negative "It's trying to be" "Inspired by"), I don't bring my expectations from other animes and don't usually bring the knowledge/concept of what's cliche/generic to the show since there's nothing wrong with it unless it's a beach scene.
I find everything above destroys the best possible experience from watching anime as you've already judged it because of another anime.
I like:
Stories:
I like a captivating story. One with music that pulls you in. Words that strike the strings of the heart. That sounds weird... But that's what I usually like. I don't care if it's cliche, if it's used right and well. That's what most fail at. Underdog action, slice of life and romance that actually comes to fruition is my favorite kind of anime.
Characters:
Underdogs that develop and optionally, transform from useless/spineless to something better.
I dislike:
Story:
Too many/obvious plot holes, unfinished/open endings (A story is supposed to be told, not made up from the receiver if you know what I mean) and fan service in place of a crappy story.
Characters:
Completely unrealistic/stupid characters, characters that never develop and remain weak/spineless/stupid etc for the whole show. Of course, there are some exemptions.
Why?
Why did I write this bio like this?
1. It's pretty much a note to myself (I have a good memory but can't remember unless triggered. That's how I think xD)
2. So people can somewhat better understand why I wrote my reviews in the way they were written.
Hobbies (Links below):
Photography, gaming, traditional art Other hobbies (The side you'll probably never see/know):
vehicle mods/mechanics, computer hardware nerd (budget PC builds etc.), audiophile, messing with electronics (RaspberryPi and such)
Wow, the biggest bio I've written; it's a mess.
Ok...
Lol if you are looking for long responses scroll my profile through all the comments lol they even make yours look small. And please by all means post your criteria for anime especially those analogies and your take on franxx and post them on the forums and perhaps show others your take on it. But at the moment you probably can't do it as the forums are still closed so you'll have to wait who knows how long it's becoming increasingly excruciating every week especially considering this and the last week we haven't had a single update it's freaking ridiculous. Anyways enough with my rant are you on the lookout for any anime this season if so which ones are you anticipating the most or have already started on?
An interesting perspective thank you for taking your time to provide it. I guess you correctly get a very harsh truth about not just anime viewers but audiences in general for all art forms but I can see why you are the one who made it because you can empathize with them and you have personal experiences to back it up as well. Most of the time people me including forget that at the end of the day this was made by real living human beings who did not intend any harm they only ever meant to entertain. I suppose we do end up treating them like a bunch of bots not recognize the personal hardships and passion these works had for them to be seen and enjoyed by audiences around the world. Now that I think about it a 1-3 rating for this is kinda harsh especially considering the top 4 reviews for this are around this mark. I will give it a try and formulate my own opinion based on it without buying into what others are saying. And one again thanks for taking your time to write such a long response.
I understand your point of view and yes it's a great way of making sure that everything you go into is the most enjobale it can be and seems as fresh to you as possible. Since I can't see your list I am wondering if you've seen neon genesis evangelion, kill la kill and gurren Lagaan prior to your watching of franxx. Because these are the anime that franxx borrows heavily from as it's made by trigger and A-1 pictures who were responsible for two of those three anime as a guy who's watched and enjoyed the three I am hesitant to go into the series because that's where it comes most under fire from as what I have heard is that it adapted and executed those inspirations or as some critics would call blatant ripoffs so poorly that it makes them really hate it and they think it's a cheap and disgusting practice and then comes their parade of vitriol this pretty much sums most of their arguments. So I am wondering what you think about those ripoffs or inspirations whatever you prefer to call them, I know you don't consider and don't bother bringing them in because you consider it irrelevant and unnecessary for ruining your enjoyment but still surely you have your opinion and stance on how those borrowed themes are being represented in franxx? I'll regurgitate my main question do you think I'll still be able to enjoy and like the series inspite of all those blatant ripoffs?
