Similarities: -Includes a soft-hearted but strong samurai as a protagonist. -Takes place on Edo Period & gives a proper demonstration of that time's lifestyle. -Story gets unfolded in a dark tone while taking place in a crime ridden atmosphere. -Rich storyline with good pace which progresses through well narrated events. -The stories tend to be realistic and grounded rather than going over the top and yelling about justice or greatness. -The characters carry the same kind of mysterious aura around themselves and almost all of the main cast are pretty well written characters who are trying to maintain the balance between their past and present life in their own way.

Asobi Asobase

Asobi Asobase & Chio are kinda similar in lots of way. Both of the main plotline is episodic which includes schoolgirls doing lots of awkward ''not-so-girly'' stuff altogether which eventually truns into hilarious & batshit crazy situations while radiating the same weirdo aura with perfectly executed comic reliefs. As for Chio chan, the comedy is not cliched or unfunny like it might seems, instead it really stands out from the mediocrity that generally eats up these animes. The little fun filled joyous adventures of Chio are really unique and humourous. Playing Kabaddi with homosexual senpai and exploiting her sexual preference to win aginst her, escaping men's toilet or chio's bizarre expertise & dedication on totally random things-the humour never goes out or becomes gross despite sounding creepy.Definitely a must watch if you've enjoyed Asobi Asobase.

Episodic shows where various kinds of mental illness gets thoroughly explained by professionals based on scientific data- their roots, possible consequences, how society and the person themselves view these illness & how to get rid of such disorders ranging from ADHD,Panic disorder,OCD to Perverted exhibitionism and cellphone addiction and so on. CPM is consisted of short 5M episodes taking place in a psychiatrist's office where usually a certain disorder gets discussed in a lighthearted educational way while portraying various sides of the problem & it's often comedic as it tries to create awareness that is intended towards the audience. However, Kuuchuu Buranko is more of a serious take in this setting. It doesn't really try to be a show that only tries to create awareness on this overlooked aspect-rather it takes a storytelling approach that gradually disintegrates layers of psychological structure.Yes it still shows you mental disorders, their cause & countermeasures told by professionals plus often it's a bit comedic too, but Kuuchu Buranko grows into a complete show as it takes one certain individual with certain disorder and tries to dissect the whole scenario throughout the episode-just like CPM,but the difference is that it tries to go deeper into the patient's personal life, their struggles, shortcomings in an unorthodox way. This show tries to tell us that often the decisions we make to avoid various circumstances gets developed into such disorders that disrupts our life in unimaginable ways.

These two shows are quite the match together as they both share number of concepts and plot points. -Stories take place in a crime ridden atmosphere and not in Japan. Black Lagoon takes place in Thailand while Michiko & Hatchin takes place in South American surroundings. -Two protagonists in each show & one of them was dragged out of their monotonus lives and thrown into a new, chaotic life full of uncertainties. -Includes one strong badass female protagonist. -Black Lagoon progresses with short arcs lasting 3-4 eps while Michiko & Hatchin is mostly episodic. -The plotlines include some interesting action & adventure fueled stories. While Black Lagoon tends to be more violent as the main cast are outlaws,Michiko and Hatchin takes more of a drama based approach with some unique stories with colourful characters & fair amount of action. -Stories focus on the daily hardships of living in such harsh life threatening circumstances rather than the blurry destinations on horizon which the protagonists are unsure of as they were taken out of their place.

Kill la Kill

What if you throw Kill La Kill into an Angel Beats setting and make a movie outta it? Basically that's 'Hells'. A seemingly week female protagonist gets rolled into a bizarre school, meets weird new people and soon things start to go batshit crazy.Unexpected twists alongside bizarre plot and action while little by little the cute protagonist keeps pushing her limit and eventually grows strong enough to throw everything off the balance while dealing with family issues - just too much similarity between these two anime. Besides the animation is also pretty similar and overall radiates the crazy goofy 'energy'- makes you feel like watching typical Imaishi Hiroyuki masterclass.
