As slice of life as it can be, this anime is VERY niche. No doubt a hidden gem but it is seinen at its core. Not because of gore or adult content - I think it's just directed to an older audience. I am without question in awe! No reincarnations, no heroic battles, no tearjerkers, just normal people living their normal WORKING lives.
For someone like mevwho's dealing with words the series are spot on. Although I have an acquaintance involved in compiling a dictionary, I was amazed at the effort required to compile a dictionary specifically in Japanese mainly because of the characteristics of
...
the language. I'm a little envious of native Japanese viewers, because even with my cursory knowledge of the language, I can tell that the level of conversation between the characters is above average. Very beautiful!
The representation of corporate life is also extremely accurate. The characters are well built and you can sympathize with them and even identify with them. There is logic and motive behind their decisions, which are presented completely naturally. The light romantic touches only add to the atmosphere.
10 of 10 from me. Recommend for leisurely afternoons with a cup of iced coffee or rainy evenings with a glass of wine. I hope more people decide to give it a chance!
EDIT: Just checked. The studio is behind another gem of strangeness - Aku no Hana. This explains a lot, haha!

Outstanding work! While it may seem shallow and rushed to some viewers - don't be fooled: well-paced, funny dialogue, moments of introspection - it's all there, and the overall feeling is extremely positive and uplifting. Plus as someone who gave up on an art career - I won't lie, it hits hard.
In only 12 episodes, in an extremely engaging and light way, the series manages surprisingly well to touch on topics that anyone dealing with art can identify with - the competition, the lack of inspiration, the ever-shortening of time, the misunderstanding of your creative approaches, the sacrifices, the fatigue, but also the deserved
...
success, the happiness, the enjoyment of the creative process...
Yes, maybe the way the main character discovers his passion for painting is a little idyllically shown, but let's face it - don't we sometimes just need a mere moment to make some of our best decisions in life? The supporting characters are also great developed - their stories are well told, their decisions are well grounded, they contrast well within the overall story.
I may be a little biased because I stumbled upon this gem after a series of mediocre shows but it delivers, you won't regret it if you give it a try! As a feeling for me it came close to Chihayafuru, though the two shows are quite incomparable in length and subject matter.

Don't waste your time - NOTHING happens here. Just some mundane people doing mundane things. No character development, no sweet love moments, no cool twists, even the drama is not up to par! Nothing. The two main female characters behave extremely inadequate and disrespectfully towards the male characters. I swear, if someone treated me like that - constantly changing their mind and giving me false hope - i would immediately kick them out of my life, rather than feeling bad AND CLING TO THEM!! I really don't know why I kept watching - probably was hoping for something to change, but then came the finale
...
which was downright cringeworthy.
That aside, the animation, music and overall setting are on point - a typical slow-paced slice of life anime. I read here that the manga is good and I feel bad for the people who was looking forward to the series.

If you - like me - were fooled by the strange animation style from the poster, or - like me - are not fond of the ocean theme, please, correct yourself and give this movie a chance! Plus - it doesn't seem like it, but it's a real tearjerker and at the same time carries very cool message about loss and moving on!
I've had this title in my Plan to Watch list for a while but because of the above said I've plain ignored it. I was never so worng! The plot manages to combine firefighting with surfing !! and very sweetly presented and fun
...
love story with the despair after losing someone close to you. Very nice mixture and very original presentation of the story! Big PRO for me - main characters are not highschoolers but damn GROWN PEOPLE! Very relatable for a 30+ like myself.
I recommend this not onlly for a nce change of scenery but if you've been through a loss recently. It conveys a really nice message of acceptance and getting a grip of your life after you've been shaken. Yes, tears will be shed, but overall the feeling through the whole movie is very positive.

It is early 2023 and I am here because of Shinichirō Watanabe. Yes, I am as surprised as you are - this show is one of his works. Than why did I heard of it 3 years after it's release, I wonder?... Why isn't it the next big hit?
Fisrt of all, I'm a big fan of Watanabe's work - Samurai Champloo is my all-time favourite anime. So I was thrilled when I found out there's something I might have missed in my hectic everyday life. Plus I'm not having the best time of my life right now so I needed something light-hearted to lift my
...
spirits.
And Carol&Tuesday does that - cheers you up. The story isn't heavy, the characters are cool, funny and the dialogue between them is generally enjoyable, I laughed more than once. The animation is actually great. The music is beautiful, simple and catchy - I would gladly listen to it in my car, plus it actually moves you (I shed a tear or two during the last episode).
But I think what is frustrating fans here is the story - it's A MESS. And I don't mean it like in mixed-up way, but more like the message it is trying to convey. There are some downright weird or rapid plot decisions but it's forgivable. My problem was that along the main story there are several others, often quite a bit more interesting, but not sufficiently developed. I get the point - to support the main story, but unfortunately they do it no favor. On the contrary, they make the main characters seem extremely single-layered in their decisions, when in reality they are not.
So if you are not that picky of a viewer, I really recommend watching this. It won't be a waste of time. But overall enjoyable, my personal opinion is that Watanabe did not live by his reputation with this one.

I picked this from my dropped list while making some "cleaning". I remembered a friend of mine who was very hyped back in 2008 and made me take a look but I dropped it after 5 or 6 episodes because it simply didn't cath my attention. Unfortunately this anime in specific needs exactly that - to jump the 5-episodes barrier. ;) So lately I've read some stuff here and there and decided to give Ergo Proxy a second chance.
OK, I'll be honest - once again, I can't say I fully liked it. I'll try to explain why in short because the series are not new
...
and there are a lot of reviews already.
First of all I think you have to be a bit older if you want to enjoy fully this anime. I'm not sayng young viewers are not smart enough or something but this is definitely not your tipycal series - actually it was (and still is) very experimental back in 2006. What I'm trying to say is that one shoud have more... life experience to understand some of the references in it, which are actually great and I did like that part of the show.
Second, you really, really have to watch beyond episode 5! It doesn't matter if you are hyped to watch it or just giving it a try - it just starts VERY SLOW!! Not to mention very confusing and I think this is what will make a lot of people to drop it (like I did at my first try). Actually a lot of things remain unexplained till the end so don't be surprised if you feel lost at times. That's another weak point of the series.
In fact the middle of the anime is very cool, I liked it. It successfuly combines funny and tragic elements, a bit of action and romance, the character development is fluent and understandable and what is happening is actually interesting. And again, the last few episodes seemed hasty and I didn't like how rash all of it ended.
So I wll say it once againg - this anime is not for everybody. It is dark. Very dark. The art itself is in minor colors. And you have to pay a lot of attention all the time, maybe check a few things in Google... I'm still trying to understand why so much people liked it but maybe the problem is in me. But that must not stop you from trying it - it's a mind challenger and they don't make stuff like this nowadays. In fact I can't compare it to anything new. Also the soundtrack is great.
