"Like an angel who has forsaken sympathy, Rise up, young boy, and make yourself a legend"
Evangelion is THE legend, the catalyst to 2nd anime revolution, one of the biggest anime markets in Japan(probably the biggest), savior of the anime. With revenue greater than $1.4 billion, Evangelion is a force to be reckoned with. And for the fact that there was only 1 season little less than 20 years ago, it's unbelievable how successful this show is. Is it overrated? I guess so. Does it deserve its praise? Absolutely
Story(9): Evangelion is about teenagers in biotic war machines fighting gigantic monsters called Angels. Concept itself is not
...
so original for the fact that there were godzilla(gigantic monsters) and gundam(war machines) before Evangelion. However, behind this simple concept lies an incredibly deep human and societal matters and deep connections to characters. Some of them might be faux symbolisms but I can't deny that symbolisms, analogies, and metaphors got nothing to do with the story.
Art(8): This anime was made back in 1995. Taking that into account, mech designs, character designs, and etc are quite intricate and amazing.
Sound(9): Great sound tracks. Cruel Angel's Thesis(1995) is in the top 10 Karoke songs again? Well, that explains it.
Characters(10): This is where Neon Genesis Evangelion wins it all. Many characters are like icebergs: simple, yet incredibly deep
Shinji: Our wimpy main character. You think you can be like Kirito, jump in front of angels and beat the crap out of them? Wrong. YOU are Shinji. Shinji is very human. He's 14, mentally unstable, and is burdened with the fate of humanity. Imagine YOU being in his position.
Asuka: Mother of tsundere; cute, red haired, and attractive young girl. She is a female Shinji but reflects what we want to become(in a way.) On episode 22, it turns out that it was just a facade to move on with her life. She wants to grow up. She wants attentions.
Many characters are like this: mental problems, rotten to the core, wears a mask.....
Enjoyment(7): It requires thinking: why would that character act that way? What would I have done? What's their relationship? Last 2 episodes were really un-satisfying and probably is the reason why it only received 8.32 here.
Overall(9): Great psychological horror, very human; a textbook anime that everyone should watch.

"Unless the functions represented by the discontinued player reappear in another player, however, part of the story’s argument will disappear at the point the original drops out. In the attempt to surprise an audience by killing off a major player, many an author has doomed an otherwise functional story form."-(Melaine, Gone With the Wind)
I honestly believe that killing a character is a great way for the story to move on, development, shock factor, and because it seems so.....mature. Akame ga Kill! Is a great example in which this formula takes a downturn.
In a way, this anime is unique because it kills off many characters
...
just like Game of Thrones. However, Game of Thrones is considered a masterpiece where as Akame ga Kill! Is considered crap? Why is that? In Game of Thrones, there's a character cycle. When certain characters die, they are soon followed up by new casts just as entertaining as the original. Game of Thrones also gets at least minimal character developments in the story. Akame ga Kill! Goes all backward with this. Characters die with no significant shift in the plot line and there are little to no character developments at all. As a viewer, I can only say that the studio was running low on budget or was EXTREMELY lazy.
This isn't the only problem. Villains are plain ridiculous. they are bad because they want to be bad. There aren't real incentives behind their actions other than their desire to quench their blood thirst, or.....desire to be villains.
So what can I say about this show? Akame ga Kill! Is a gory version of Sword Art Online(in terms of anime as a whole, not plot nor story line) with worse graphic, better(?) characters(seriously, no character can be bland as Kirito), cliche, out of place comedy(they're not even funny), and.....bad character execution(literally and figuratively).

Just downright terrible. Terrible execution, terrible characters, terrible storyline, terrible villains, terrible development. An abomination. Alright, art and music were good but nothing too special about them. Want to watch a real action anime? Go ahead and watch Code Geass, Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, etc.
Seriously, I have no idea this anime became so sensational. It evokes feeling? They are temporary pathos try to engage viewers to make them feel "empathy," which has a bad tendency to make them feel "apathy." Characters are awesome? Ladies and gentlemen, there's a significant difference between popular character and good character. Let's take Shinji Ikari and Kirito for example. Obviously
...
Kirito will be more popular because he is a badass, pussy magnet, and Jesus. Does that make him a good character? ABSOLUTELY NOT. In fact, he is one of the blandest, boring character I've ever met. What about Shinji? Shinji is a wimp, a crybaby so no one likes him? WRONG. In fact, he is one of the greatest anime character made in the history of anime(IGN.)
Let me get to my point. This anime can be fun, but it's an abomination.

*This Review Contains Spoilers*
Mirai Nikki, aka The Future Diary, is one of most hyped and well received anime in 2011-2012. There are 2 ways to watch this show: if you turn of your brain and just watch it with a bag of popcorn, it'll be one of the best blood-shedding, twisted, and suspenseful anime you'll ever watch. However, if you actively turn on your brain and actively engage with the story, you'll find it highly disappointing and will probably frustrate you to the point that you cannot even bare with it anymore. Now, just because I gave it a high rating, doesn't mean that this
...
anime is perfect. I gave it a high rating because I turned of my brain while watching it, so bare with me as I go through this disastrous 'masterpiece'.
Story: 5
If you're reading this, you'll probably know what's going on so I'll get straight to the point. It's concept is downright astounding. It's one of the best concept I've ever seen because it is not so hackneyed and it's highly intriguing as well. It is very interesting in a way that it is a battle royale to take over the throne of god using cell phones that can predict future. However, all of these potentials are crushed because of its poor execution and logical fallacies. The story brings out question that's directly related to the plot itself and forces you to make an assumption of how certain events happened. Its logical fallacies also prevent you from enjoying the show to its fullest extent.
Characters: 6
I'll break this up into 4 parts ("SPOILERS")
Yukiteru: Probably the most controversial character in the show. First, he is the most humane character in the show and probably the most 'normal.' Second, he is one of the worst character in the show because he is just simply a wimp, but defies all human logic as far as human relationship can go. He forgives his friend who tried to turn him into a doggy food, forgives his girlfriend who locked him up in a dilapidated old building for more than a week, and forgives his father who killed his mother out of whim. Well, the fact that he is 14, and a loner could probably explain WHY he decided to do those illogical things but the fact that you have to make an assumption about that is a BIG no-no.
Yuno: The pivot to the story. A crazy yandere who is obsessed with his boyfriend and shows little to no human emotion and empathy aside from that. I just one to point one thing out: the show made her a frickin villain in episode 22, as she lies to Yuki and makes him kill all of his friends who was trying to help him. If the show ended with Yuki defeating this crazy bitch and repenting over his messed up action, than it would've been more redeeming but no~Yuki continues to love her and decides to trust her, which is just an unilateral relationship to me.
Minene: My favorite character. Her backstory actually makes sense and it fits well with the tone of this story. Everyone says that she's a tsundere, but she's actually a kuudere. She's actually one of the character that I felt sorry when she died, because she actually has some redeeming features. Also, I enjoyed her fan service quite a bit. But her role in episode 16 or sth was completely stupid and just killed her.
Akise: The best fitting character to the story in terms of the tone and plot. He is the one who uncovers all the diary incident and the mystery behind Yuno in a clever, not so much logic defying way.
Art: 7
Art was nice, but there were nothing too special about it either.
Sound: 8
Superb openings and alright music throughout the show
Enjoyment: 10
Turn of your brain, and it'll be one of the best show you'll ever watch.
