On its own, no. I consider it one of several flaws with the show that keep it from being as good as it could be.

Oh snap! I read your about me! Im so glad you enjoy the character that is Shinji! People hate him cause he's whiney and all that, they don't understand, he's only like 14? He's has to do all that crazy fighting and then not to mention his relationship with his Father

Right off the bat (and this is going off the accuracy of your list) I'd recommend the Fate Series. There's alot to it, but everything about it is gold.
