Crazy, over-the-top magic and episodic adventure, cutesy visuals with a unique and atmospheric art style, yuri undertones, Dantean allusions, and countless references to other shows. Fans of one show will almost certainly like the other.

Both are cynical, tongue-in-cheek parodies of popular anime genres and tropes. Both contain an unsuspecting, somewhat perverted male protagonist dragged by an annoyingly charismatic female character into an adventure he'd rather not be a part of. Both have plenty of funny, entertaining, and (intentionally) obnoxious characters.

There is an unreal amount of pure, stupid fun to be had with both series. Characters in each series have awesomely-designed costumes and often have crazy, over-the-top abilities. There's an easy-to-follow "monster of the week" formula in both series that eventually evolves into a struggle against a more powerful, ultimate villain. Both shows have a hint of slice-of-life behind all of the madness. It's worth mentioning that Kill la Kill draws some notable influences from JoJo, namely the spontaneous posing, crazy fighting, and some of the costumes.

Similarly structured political thrillers featuring powerful teenagers. Similar themes of war and deception. Both have fair amounts of of action, magic, and fanservice. Code Geass features slightly more pizza.

Both are beautiful, stunningly directed, multi-layered shows that are fun as heck to dig into and theorize about. Complex storytelling and symbolism is present in both series, and both require lots of brain power and deduction to enjoy to their full potential. Flip Flappers incorporates a fair amount of fanservice, so unsuspecting Lain fans should be aware of that if it bothers them.
