So.. my first anime review.. here goes..
Story [ Background / Progression ] :
Its an unique concept that I haven't seen before. It deals with a 'what if' scenario. What if an earthquake of a magnitude of 8 occurred? What is the after matter, and what may a person do in this situation, along with the events that follow that person? Despite having it not happened in the real world, as of yet, Bones decided to give it a whirl, and this, in turn, is their product.
Moving onto the anime itself, there's not much that can be said about how it progresses besides how Mirai, Yuuki,
...
and Mari struggle to make it back to their families, and the people who they meet on the way. The pacing of it is pretty much at a good rate. There aren't moving so fast that it seems like Tokyo is squished within a three kilometer radius, but at the same time, it focuses on key points throughout their adventure.
Art :
Well the styling is pretty much, overall, good. Not great, but it gets the job done. There's rarely any "sharp / dark / deep" edges on characters, bulidings, etc.. found around as you watch, from what I can tell, which promotes the fact that this is a 'what if' scenario after all. The character design is odd, from my point of view. The fact that Mirai, and Yuuki have, in essence, "perfectly round" heads somewhat scares me, but it doesn't cause such a major eye-ache that I have to only rely on my ears to determine what's going on. Beyond that, its pretty much what I expected from Bones. Solid art.
Sound :
I really hope this is referring to the OP, and EP.. if not.. oh well.
The opening (Kimi no Uta - Abingdon Boys School) can give a somewhat post-mayhem vibe. This can supported by the slideshow at the start. From what I can tell, its meant to give a sense of insecurity. That life isn't always smooth sailing, and when you do get lost, do you have someone there to help? So basically, it works well with the setting of the anime. The real problem I have with this song is that the first second of the TV size starts out with this sudden guitar string sound that sounds almost corrupted.
The ending (M/elody - Shion Tsuji) is a song that can give a sense of hope for what's beyond the road. That there's something better down the path. Its quite soothing to just hear the guitar solo at the start. So much so that it works well to make me sleep sometimes. Its also one of the few ending songs that I've come to enjoy a lot.
Its a typical opposite OP / EP style I would guess, but like most of them, it works well.
Character :
No brainer. Most to all characters can related to most people in your life. There's your sister-brother relationship, which always seems to get into fights, pointless arguments, and alike. However, when each other lives are in danger, they cooperate together in order to live another day. Next in line, your wandering good Samaritan (which means a person who does good deeds, in my dictionary). You may dislike him/her at first for interfering with your life, but they eventually grow on you. I could explain more, but that's the gist of it. It gives a connection to your own life, so you can relate more to how they're feeling as the anime goes.
Enjoyment :
Personally, I liked it. It gave me a good break from all of the other shows that came in the same season as this. Sure, there wasn't any real fighting scenes, over the top amazing sequences, or some weird situation where laughs ensue. However, it gave a perfect example of what, and how natural occurrences can affect the lives of a person, family, city, and possibly, a country.
So in conclusion, its a watch if you want. Its not a need to watch, but its a good break from all of the other anime types. And that sums up my first review. Hope you read it through, and enjoyed it.
