There are two main protags: a hero who is sort of a cross between and adventurer and the brave one (Logy and Zen have the same hair color to boot) and a heroine who is somewhat bubbly and friendly but is well-versed in their profession (Escha and Shirayuki, an alchemist and herbalist, are similar jobs that require chemistry and biology to understand) The settings are also similar as to a town full of people who go along with their lives as the protags and troupe of friends (Each series have their own supporting cast) go around solving problems and going on quests and adventures!

There are many blatant and obvious features in both anime series that make them increasingly similar to one another. For the most part, both are based off the mahou shoujou series and feature their magical powers. Although minor, both also have 5 people in the protagonist's group which makes comparison much easier between the two. Aiming for a goal, both groups' themes are based off friendship and their power extracted from them. The art style and music from both are equally beautiful and pretty though it may differ from time to time. Ultimately, Houkago no Pleiades and Mahou Shoujou Madoka Magica are similar in several factors that make them both enjoyable animes to watch.

A battle of wishes; a battle to see whose dream will prevail over others. At first, it seems to be a fantasy to the girls in both series, but the darkness and magic that is present makes this all possible to both girls of these series. To those who have watched both Madoka Magica and WIXOSS, the similarities between the two must be blatantly obvious. The battle of dreams through the idea of magic (whether it be cards or magical powers themselves) are what drives these anime series to their fullest potential; a black desire that hides behind the frilly dresses and innocent smiles that seeks to destroy the world. Both shows have a diverse cast of characters, each with their own dream that defines their existence and their desires. There was also a common enemy, which is someone much like them tainted in darkness. This made the show thrilling and suspenseful despite the innocence. The abstract art and concepts of sacrifice and friendship were dominant over the two series, and this is what makes them excellent examples of the battle of girls' dreams.
