The story was unique, and had the same atmosphere at the other 'CoMix Wave' movies I've seen. I was really looking forward to watching this, especially after watching CoMix Wave's 'Garden of Words' and '5 Centimeters per Second', and I'm glad I did.
The beginning made me curious, and as the story went on, parts of the past were brought up, and it made me feel like it was thought through thoroughly. The ending was tear-jerking.
There isn't really much to pick fault in for this movie.
Art : 10
As expected of the producer(s), yet another gorgeously animated movie! Art as detailed as that is so satisfying to watch. 10/10 of course!
Sound : 8
Nothing to complain about here either. The ending song was good, the voices were well-suited to the characters, and I loved the music throughout the movie.
Character : 6
There isn't really much to comment on here. The three characters that actually had development were great, but they still weren't all that different from each other. I don't feel like the characters in this were anything special.
However, the lack of character did add to the atmosphere of the movie.
**SPOILER: I also liked Takuya's reaction to Hiroki's idea, it was pretty unexpected. The romance too.**
Enjoyment : 9
I'm a sucker for great art. The enjoyment automatically increases when the art catches my eye. Not to mention the somewhat tranquil atmosphere and unique storyline. I don't think it's quite a 10 though.

This was so beautiful.

Story : 6
I like that this anime had a goal to work towards, and the characters more-or-less stick to that goal. However, the ending wasn't really an ending, and a sequel has yet to be announced. It's only been 3 years though, so there's a chance of a sequel.
**I liked the sub-story of Date and Murasaki**
I thought the story overall was fair.
Art : 7
I don't have any complaints about the art, but at the same time I don't think there's anything particularly worth mentioning.
I personally didn't like the design of Himiko, I thought the anatomy was a little off, but it might just be me.
In my opinion, the art overall was good.
Sound : 7
Again, nothing to complain about.
I noticed right away who the voice actor for Masashi Miyamoto was, so that was a pleasant surprise. Kousuke Kira too.
Both openings were by Nano, a band which I recognised, which also made it better. The ending theme was also good.
The sound overall, I thought, was good.
Character : 7
I liked the variety of characters. A lot of them appeared to be psychos **but I can understand that the immense pressure of the sudden survival game could make someone that way. However, Kousuke Kira was already pretty messed up, which made him a bit more interesting.**
While the ending wasn't very final in terms of the story, I liked the character development of Ryouta Sakamoto, **as he overcomes his complex**.
I also liked Himiko's development in the last episode.
Overall the characters were good, in my opinion.
Enjoyment : 7
There are 3 reasons this is a 7, rather than an 8/8.5.
1) **The multiple rape scenes in episode 2. I actually started watching this anime about 2 years ago, but stopped because this episode upset me a little. I skipped them this time, but either way, they definitely made this anime less enjoyable for me.**
2) The character development. **In the final episode, Ryouta mentions that he could have gotten on better with his family, and throughout the show we see flashbacks of him and his family, but I don't think the creators of this anime made it very clear what happened. It may just be me, though.
Also, at the end the anime made it seem like Oda was really important to Ryouta, but before they happened to meet each other, Oda was never even mentioned.**
3) The way the anime was set out could have been better. I don't mean the order of events, I mean the way the events were animated. I feel like the last episode could have been sadder, like it was supposed to be, if it was carried out in a different way.
Despite those three things, I enjoyed the battles and the hardships Ryouta went through. I also enjoyed the romantic sub-plot, even though it was predictable.
Overall : 6.8 (7)

*Honestly, my feelings are quite conflicted on this anime. The was it was supposed to be 'deep' with the whole world-building thing went wrong. The story doesn't feel deep at all, the only thing really that caught my emotions was Marito's situation in the past.
I feel like they could have gone into depth for more things, but at the same time I feel like that would have steered the anime off course.
The pace is something else I feel conflicted about.
Regardless, here's my opinion on each section.
Story : 7
I feel like the story would be a 6 if it weren't for the ending.
Honestly, I feel like the story should have had a real goal, rather than just going along with whatever comes. However, that's also a good thing because that's how it is in real life.
**The ending shocked me, I was expecting a great victory and a happy ending (because that's how it tends to be in anime, or the anime I've seen at least.) I think the shock of the ending was good, it left questions which makes the viewer want to watch the next season.
The story overall was fair, in my opinion.
Art : 7
I'm not a very good judge of art in anime, but the art in this wasn't bad. I don't feel it was noteworthy either, though.
The style itself wasn't particularly special, but I liked it and I liked the effort put into the robots and explosions.
The art overall was good, in my opinion.
Sound : 10
The character voices are fantastic, particularly Marito, Inaho and Slaine.
I especially love the music in this anime.
Each song complemented the anime perfectly, especially the OSTs during the fight scenes and the sad scenes.
The opening song and ending song also fit perfectly. Hiroyuki Sawano did a wonderful job. I'm looking forward to see if he keeps it up in the second season!
(I love it a lot more than I made it sound.)
The sound overall was outstanding, in my opinion.
Character : 7
I don't feel like many characters were particularly great.
The anime only goes into depth in one character's past : Marito. (Slaine's past was also shown, but not as in depth.) While his past was important for the story to continue, Inaho's past could have been explored a little more. (E.g: Why is he living with his sister? What happened to his parents?)
While each character has their own personality, none stood out except Inaho.
Inaho was particularly calm all throughout the anime, which is different from the main characters in the anime I've seen so far. The typical main character in my experience(especially when male) are very 'gung-ho' and are easily angered, making them make reckless decisions. Inaho was very different, it was almost like he was created for the purpose of war, as he always sees the logical decision, not letting emotions take over. He made reckless decisions, but they were always made from logic, rather than emotions. Even when his friend died right in front of him at the beginning, he didn't shed a tear. (However, he definitely showed emotion at the end.)
The characters overall were good, in my opinion.
Enjoyment : 7
As with the story, I think this would be a 6 if it weren't for the ending.
I was honestly dreading watching a mecha anime after Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was the first mecha anime I watched, and I really didn't like it. However, Aldnoah Zero was different, and I enjoyed it. I wish I had seen this before TTGL.
