Visually compelling and very thought provoking sequel movies to highly popular (and deservedly so) TV anime that changed their stereotypical genre (magical girl for Madoka and mecha for Evangelion). Both have endings that will blow your mind. In fact, the entire movie will blow your mind.

If you liked Toradora! add

...then you might like Ano Natsu de Matteru add

Both deal with high school kids falling in love with one another, and these crushes intertwine. Both are heart-wrenching romances and they will twist your feelings. You will feel happy, go "awww" because of cuteness or go "awwww" cause of sadness. Very beautiful anime. Both are also by JC Staff, the art style is also very similar.

If you liked Umineko no Naku Koro ni add

...then you might like Un-Go add

They're both murder mystery shows that have fabulous shiny butterflies.

If you liked Gosick add

...then you might like Dantalian no Shoka add

Dantalian no Shoka is an obvious and blatant rip-off of Gosick. I'm sure that if you loved Gosick, you'd like Dantalian. Everything is the same, except for the fact that Dantalian has supernatural elements.

If you liked Aoi Hana add

...then you might like Hourou Musuko add

Both are beautiful slice of life dramas that involve peculiar romance. Aoi Hana's about 2 girls that fall in love and Hourou Musuko's about a boy that wants to be a girl and a girl that wants to be a boy that fall in love. They're both adapted from manga which have been written and drawn by the same mangaka, Takako Shimura. If you like one of these anime, you will like the other.

If you liked Amagami SS add

...then you might like Yosuga no Sora add

Both have an arc for every girl. It's not like Clannad or Kanon, oh no, but in these shows they go back in time and the main character picks out a different girl. Yosuga's got graphic nudity and sex scenes, while Amagami's more... your average harem anime.

If you liked Jigoku Shoujo add

...then you might like Shigofumi add

Both anime are episodic and have multiple mini-plots. They both have horror/thriller elements, and you can expect some epic plot twists at the end of some episodes. Both anime are a bad end fest. Lost of bad ends waiting for ya. These 2 anime are similar and both amazing. If you loved the one, you'll love the other.

...then you might like Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu add

Both are probably the most random anime I've ever seen. Great school slice of life comedy, though Baka to Test has some supernatural elements.

They are so much alike. Guy surrounded by girls, an alternate world, super powers, take over the world villains etc.

If you liked Jigoku Shoujo add

...then you might like Ghost Hunt add

They both deal with the supernatural, they have this eerie feeling, sometimes horror. Both are just great! If you like Ghost Hunt, then you'll like Jigoku Shoujo. (And the other way round.)

If you liked Ga-Rei: Zero add

...then you might like Canaan add

Both are full of action, and have a great story. There's a strong relationship between the 2 main characters, you can almost say they really love each other. Yuri-like, but it's not yuri at all. The character development in both these anime will make you cry. They both have a strong first and second episode, followed by one of the most sad endings. If you liked the one, you'll definitely like the other.
