There were so many great things about this exciting Shōnen anime!
Visually breathtaking animation, with well choreographed fight scenes! Amazing OST and overall soundtrack that psychs the audience! Characters that are very interesting and flooded with charisma! Holding true to the Shōnen genre, with action, simple dialogue and a premise that has a deep and wholesome sense of unity for the greater good! It also was able to put in more emphasis on a person's emotional state and how their way of fighting maintained balance rather then coveted power. In only 13 episodes, we're exposed to a whole battle arc, it is a fast passed
...
story that will keep you engaged!
The overall character development is most beneficial to the Main Character Sakura, as he is pulled out of his narcissistic tendencies and comes to understand and appreciate his peers. We see many sides to Sakura, from his fearlessness in a fight, to his bashfulness in regards to the simplest courtesy. As awkward as he comes across, he is also sincere. His true nature is actually very kind and generous, but due to his loneliness and childhood trauma, holding people at a distance was the easiest way to protect himself. The other Furin characters were perceived as 'all knowing', or at least self-assured, to the point that we only see them in a higher regard, especially during the fights with opposing delinquent groups (Accept Nirei, of course). Side-characters within the Shishitōren group were given more development, as they came to terms with what real loyalty meant and what it was they were fighting for.
The truth of the matter is that the world-building within this series was downright silly. The concept that delinquent high-schoolers are able to protect an entire town in the stead of actual police or government forces. As well as, several neighbouring delinquent high-school groups that appose Furin, all have their own territories, ranking systems, and custom uniforms. They call it a 'high-school', but there are no teachers, faculty or classes with educational purposes. Even for delinquents, it's just absurd. Worse then that, the towns people being beyond grateful for their protection, neglect the actual wellbeing of children! Allowing and encouraging teenagers to get into bloody turf-wars and forsake their own futures. Also, the concept that an orphaned sixteen year old girl was able to run a cafe on her own, without additional staff, funding to maintain a rented space, purchasing produce and commodities, was ridicules.
The plot holes are boundless and the more you dig, the faster this anime turns into a sinkhole. A stronger written foundation could be built out of tissue-paper!
Side-note: the Japanese Subbed far surpassed the English Dubbed in terms of overall voice acting performance! The voices resonate more and the dialogue doesn't feel as forced.
Looking past these outrageous facts, it is still a great Shōnen to watch that sweeps up viewers with each episode! VERY excited for the second season in 2025!

This anime was decent! Not mind-blowing, nor an instant classic, but overall pleasant.
In truth, most viewers were expecting this to be another idol story that ripped off the hype that 'Oshi No Ko' (2023) created, but there was more too it.
The characters were likeable, the overall dialogue was sincere and felt realistic, great animation and strong pacing within the story. One of the most appealing aspects was that the issues that arose were given proper thought and diligently worked through. From their struggles between identity and character image, the harsh expectations of fans or the studios/industry itself, the struggle an actor goes through from crafting
...
a given character to the rejections from auditions, all of it is taken to heart.
It should also be said that in the final episode, the audience sees exactly how a professional recording session is composed towards the first-drafts of an anime (without scores or big sound effects, just the actor's performance). It felt like watching a behind-the-scenes walkthrough, but more then that, how great voice-acting can bring a character to life.
Now, there were negative attributes to this anime as well. For example, the plot at times felt forced, as well as character motivations running around in circles. The two girls needing to see each other as rivals, but not friends. It was disappointing that their relationship didn't evolve past this. The OST was awful, the side-characters were easily forgettable, and the political viewpoints within the voice-acting industry dragged on. The hardest element to bare with, was the random insertion of physical scenes between the two (underaged) girls. Feeling like uninspired 'Yuri bait' (as mentioned in episode 12). This couldn't even be categorized as fan-service, it was just awkward and didn't match their personalities or relationship dynamic.
All and all, this series had an interesting perspective and audiences could feel the determination and devastation that this corrupt industry can bring upon an actor. It was also pleasant to see these characters rise above their shortcomings through hard work.
It isn't really a series to gush over, but it is worth a watch!

An unexpected renewal of a beloved anime classic. An enjoyable, while slightly disappointing experience.
This 'Public School Arc' was created for the fandom to embrace nostalgia. Listening to the original English dubbed cast bring our favourite characters back to life, while ushering in a new era for Black Butler franchise. With exquisite animation, a solid rock-based OST (That reminds audiences of the original series), and positive character-development behind the two male protagonists. It was refreshing seeing Ceil and Sebastien work alongside one another so effortlessly, while simultaneously not being dependent on one another. Both are able to act alone to move the plot forward. This made
...
the two appear as equals for the first time, not only as master and servant, nor as demon and prey.
It should be stated that this season is a pale comparison to the original plot line. Not having the same menacing undertones as the previous three seasons, it didn't shake the audience with unforeseen twists or create a void of despair (as the demon butler Sebastien craved) after the affects of Lord Phantomhive's orders.
No, this was a far more lighthearted and predictable story. We see Ceil masquerading as a young student in high society and excelling among his peers, never neglecting the heartlessness of his true nature, but presenting a relatable side to his usual arrogance. Likeable side-characters, with unfortunately underwhelming motivations. The concept of old English traditions, social edict and shameless brainwashing was present, but also exhaustingly drilled. The humour and wacky actions to move the plot were delightfully placed throughout the season, making each episode enjoyable (though, lacked real impact).
One large benefit to this adaptation was that it able to create ties between 'The Book of Murder' OVA and 'The Book of The Atlantic' Film. Relinquishing their tags as meagre cash-grabs.
Regardless, this is still a recommended watch. With an open ending after the 11th episode, audiences are excitedly awaiting a follow up season. Hopes are high that we may see the ruthlessness and sheer devastation of the original, since it's obviously laying down the foundation for something much bigger to come.

This was a very disappointing anime within the spring releases.
In the beginning the story's premise was endearing. However, several issues quickly arose from the plot, unlikable characters, poor animation, lame OST and boring dialogue. Mainly, the overall concept of 'love' was obsessive and constantly brought up, to the point that the audience became desensitized by the word. The actual 'loving' moments between the main couple were also overdramatized and shallow.
It had the general foundation of a Shoujo anime, in which the characters are students in a high school setting, creating their own identities while trying to form relationships in romance, as well as with
...
their peers and having uplifting tones overall. Unfortunately, with no comedic aspects or fun characters, the whole series was taken too seriously. The characters interactions felt more like an office setting then teenagers in school.
The female lead was portrayed as innocent, when she was simply naive from not having enough life experience. Her character was given more depth due to her trauma in middle school, making her rooted fear of 'falling in love' understandable to a degree. However, it didn't impact her ability to have friendships or be apart of social situations. Real trauma affects multiple areas of a person's life, it isn't as selective as this anime portrayed.
On the other hand, the male lead was consistently possessive, lacked his own interests and his fear of abandonment contributed to his stalker-like attitude. It was always brushed off as his 'trying too hard' personality, but if he didn't have a handsome character design, then their relationship's dynamic would have been drastically different.
The writing of the series both in plot and dialogue was subpar, not enough emotion was brought from these characters which made it difficult to connect with their love story.

This anime fit the qualifications within the 'Slice of Life' genre, placing a great deal of effort to come across as wholesome, sentimental and providing special care to each character's emotional state. Unfortunately, it was also highly pretentious, with a weak plot and ultimately led to an underwhelming experience.
There were positive aspects of the series. It was highly knowledgeable on the creation, ingredients and presentation of alcoholic beverages, as well as how bartending is conducted on a world-wide scale. A lot of detail was given to the proper edict behind bartending and what a seasoned customer would come to expect from a high-end bar.
However,
...
the characters were dry and their interactions felt artificial. None undergoing any growth or deepened character development. Dialogue was needlessly boring (while attempting to be eccentric), the animation was low-budget and often cut-corners with pointless montages, as well as the OST being bland (actually, matching the series well).
The plot did touch on rather serious issues, but the resolutions were overdramatized and too simple. The concept that each person's situation or perspective could be altered by a single cocktail was uninspired and lacked sincerity.
All and all, if a viewer had a great understanding of alcohol, then this may have been a good anime to watch. From an outsider's viewpoint, it was difficult to connect with and the writing didn't provide the realism that many 'Slice of Life' anime typically do.

This anime was an uninspired Isekai / Reincarnation story, that overly emphasized increasing power.
The main issue being that the writing itself was awful. The world-building and character premise of the 'Ogres' was incredibly flawed, with each 'power-up' their races changed dramatically in completely different directions, this may have been an attempt at individualizing characters, but it was simply random and confusing for audiences. The constant name changes of the main cast didn't help either.
The main character wasted no time in honing his skills and by the end of the first episode was reining supreme over the other Ogres. He was so overpowered to the
...
point that he had more abilities then he knew what to do with. Being able to effortlessly conquer any foes they faced, was rather boring. There was no set antagonist or rival force they had to overcome. The stakes or conflict within the plot weren't high enough.
Also, the unnecessary fan-service was exhausting. The concept of polygamy only applied to the main character and the several women that obediently followed him, never raising emotions of jealousy or possessiveness or any creating character depth. Four women simultaneously became pregnant and gave birth within days of conception, but these events were simply brushed over. Again, poor writing towards the plot.
The one positive area was that the characters were likeable, with a strong sense of morality and unity amongst their peers. They were completely unrealistic and incapable of relating to the audience, but their dialogue and interactions were entertaining. The animation was also decent and had well balanced fight scenes. Though the OST and overall soundtrack was still subpar at best.
The English Dubbed makes it easy to throw this anime on in the background, but not something to be taken seriously or viewed more then once.

Sadly, the bad outweighs the good on this particular anime.
This series' saving grace was the hilarious interactions between the main cast. The characters are likeable through their quirks and awkward personalities, go through decent development, and have some entertaining misunderstandings. The romance between Zagan and Nephy, being genuinely adorable, makes you root for their relationship.
However, they have essential married, adopt a child together and yet, we don't see more intimacy then being fed pastries. The story lacked progression. While the characters do undergo change, the cast is made up of the 'enemies turned friend' troop that is over played. One odd aspect is that
...
the main couple are both capable of (and are even proud of) murder and yet, they hesitate to take the lives of their enemies. This being a common contradicting theme within these light-hearted series. With such high stakes, nothing of depth happens. The story also lacked satisfying resolutions to serious criminal acts, such as abduction, imprisonment and basic threat of death. Every act is simply water under the bridge in the following episode.
The animation was low budget and the action scenes consistently cut corners, the character designs were 'cute' to say the least, though the dialogue is very over the top. The OST throughout the anime was rather clumsy and not befitting of the story. Falling into three major genres of Action, Fantasy, and Romance, more was expected.
Great characters, but disappointing writing. Not terrible, but underwhelming. Worth a watch at the very least.

This was a wonderful and unexpected treat (Pun-intended! Haha!) within the Spring 2024 anime line-up!
Unique animation style, hysterical dialogue from creative characters that viewers genuinely come to care for through great development! The world-building itself was eccentric, from the main setting within the mysterious dungeon, as well as the multiple races and their captivating cultures. It excelled at bringing diverse perspectives and individuality amongst a large cast. The overall score of the series was well done, including the extremely catchy opening and ending sequences. Not to mention, this series falls under several different anime genres, including: Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, and Gourmet!
It goes without saying
...
that the food aspects of this anime was extremely detailed! Different cooking techniques, nutrition and ingredient preparation were all taken into account, while giving step by step instruction of the cooking process. It was delightful to see each monster-dish resembling a real life cuisine! The concept of starvation being very present and the gravity of that reality for many characters pulled at your heart strings. However, each dish had a sense of accomplishment, to the point that you actually enjoy watching them share these meals together.
The storyline itself was rather erratic and felt rushed at times. Jumping from one plot-point to another to help create a more complex story, while consistently, introducing new characters to branch onto different areas of the ever expanding world. In reality, this benefited the action sequences and emphasized the fact that within a dungeon, an adventure needed to be able to adjust to unforeseen circumstances. The main cast themselves were shockingly flexible within life threatening situations, however, an uplifting and optimistic perspective was always present.
A truly great anime experience! Being left with an open ending, fanbases are deeply anticipating a second season!

Much like it's first season, Mashle: Shinkakusha Kouho Senbatsu Shiken-hen is a silly, well animated action series that a viewer can sit back and enjoy.
The constant humour, likeable (rather shallow) characters, great score, consistent action and a story that is audacious, with a straightforward premise. Self-acceptance and having the strength to change an unforgiving world's perspective is a consistent motivation that holds true to the Shounen genre.
Not a plot dripping with depth and mystery, but a fun, 'turn your brain off' type anime that has a wholesome charm.
If you've enjoyed One Punch Man, then this is a series worth watching.

This anime had a great premise, with the story itself being rather interesting. The main character had proper motivation and underwent mild development.
Unfortunately, after the first few episodes, the writing continuously worsened. Focusing on uninspired side characters and an exhaustingly slow plot, it seemed like Rentt (MC) was the only one in the series who was moving forward (Ironic, since he spent 10 years as an low ranking Adventurer).
With it's poor (very low budget) animation, it made the action scenes rather difficult to enjoy. Considering this is held within the Action and Fantasy genres, it was underwhelming to say the least.
Not a complete waste
...
of time, you do grow to care for the main character's modest nature and root for his survival, but that's really all there is. It was left open for a sequel, but it's rather doubtful that this particular anime will continue past 12 episodes.
