Neon Genesis Evangelion. Fate Zero. Serial Experiments Lain. Re: Zero Starting Life in Another World. Black Lagoon. Akame Ga Kill. Overlord.
The list goes on and on and on. All shows, the MAL Rating would have you believe that this show is better then.
The question is, is it? HELL TO THE FUCK NO. How this show has an 8.55 rating absolutely baffles the mind. Truly, its current rating has no rhyme, reason, or logic to it. "The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat" is the exact same show, but way better. Way better.
To summarize: The show is more

Mixed Feelings Spoiler
NON SPOILERS
Oh My God! The day is finally here. For years, you've been waiting for the follow-up to your favorite videogame. Call of Trash Modern Garbage 22 is finally coming out. You've taken off work, you've muted your discord servers, you've placed your phone on silent, and did all your schoolwork in advance. Just so that you can thoroughly enjoy this experience. Finally, FINALLY, you can enjoy some good ol' Call of Trash. You boot up the game. 8 hours later, you're done with the game. You reflect... ... ... Surely this can't be Call of Trash, the series notorious for its toxicity and fast pace first-person shooting. ... Throughout the entire experience, you pressed "F" to shoot one dude in the back of the head one time. You got in one short actual shootout. And then you got to watch two cutscenes of people shooting without you ever getting involved. That's Vinland Saga S2 in a nutshell. That's all you really need to know. If you were excited for the sequel to Vinland Saga. Go watch, or rewatch Beserk or Claymore. Because that's not what this is. That being said, there is something of some quality here. If you're just looking for an anime to watch. You may or may not enjoy the experience. SPOILERS Look, I get it. We all get it, the show completely abandoned what the show was known for and went in a completely different direction. And people are pissed off and rightfully so. HOWEVER. The name of the show is Vinland Saga. And considering that the conclusion of this season is that Thorfinn is now going to Vinland. The way this story went seems to be the way the author originally intended it to go. So, while I am disappointed that I didn't get what I signed up for. Let's give this a fair shake regardless. TLTR: Upon giving this a fair shake, the story does not hold up as a good one under the new genre it finds itself in. Or in Layman's terms. When watching Demon Slayer, the story can be ass because it's an action show and it looks good. Vinland Saga is no longer an action show, and therefore, when examined under a critical lens it does not hold up that well. Let's start with what the show did well. The entire 1st half of the show was great. Even though it was a complete genre shift, it was done well. The animation and art style here are good. Nothing exceptional but good. And that's about where the positives end. Saying that the entire 1st half is great is high praise. However, the entire 2nd half is so dumbfuckingly stupid, that it completely counters the praise I have for the 1st half. First, let me define these parts. Everything pre Arnheid's husband was good. Everything involving and after Arnheid's husband is bad. I'm not going to waste my time going balls-deep dissecting how everything in the 2nd half is bad. Because honestly, I would be typing for hours. Let's instead focus on main points and keep it as simple as possible, no ranting. -Arnheid's Husband. Why is he so strong? Like Seriously, WHY IS HE SO STRONG!? Never explained. If he's so strong, why did he kill the slave trackers sent to hunt him down? Surely he could've knocked them out? Especially considering (to my knowledge at least) that he has never killed anyone before ( at least prior to killing his abusive slave-master). You would think he would be hesitant to do such a thing. Why did Snake's men not kill him upon catching him? How did he survive so long with such a fatal wound? Why was his death like 12 minutes long (for a character that only existed for like 4 episodes) with obnoxiously loud piano music blaring in the background (this being particularly egregious when I get to one of my further points)? -Arnheid. Whatever happened to that plot point that was about her potentially manipulating the master (Like am I the only one that remembers the scene where we're introduced to the fact that she's sleeping with the master? It's framed in such a way, that she's potentially manipulating him, at least that's what I got out of it). Why is she perfectly okay with her peaceful husband now being a murderer? Seems like she's more conflicted about leaving her peaceful life on the farm than about her peaceful husband who has now murdered multiple people in front of her. Why should I care about her death? Rant incoming. Arnheid's character got 0 development, I repeat ZERO development. The only thing we see her do is 3 things, cook, clean, and talk to Einer. That's about it, and in that entire time she showed a personality equivalent to Ayanami Rei's from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Like seriously, the only thing she does is smile and nod, cook good, and that's it. O, and let's not forget that she gives that mean sloppy toppy, that gluck gluck 9000 to old men, and apparently has a pussy so tight that it literally drives men insane. And then her husband shows up and now she's conflicted. She's too indecisive to make a decision for herself and has to be pushed along by people and or circumstances multiple times repeatedly. And then we get her backstory, and she didn't want her husband to go look for some land. WOW. That is her entire character. There is no personality to be found. At most, you could say she's kind. We never see her crack jokes, we never see her take the initiative, and we never see her character grow. We never see her do anything, but react. She's completely a reactionary character. So tell me why should I give 2 fricks about her death? Look, her circumstances were messed up to say the least. She was getting raped by an old man, and got horrendously beat up by an old man while pregnant. Pretty bad to say the least. BUT. I did not grow up drinking Soy-Milk. People are soft as hell, talking about this is the saddest stuff they've ever seen. What are you on about mate? This sh*t is not that sad. Yes, she was getting pounded like Connor McGregor was by Khabib. But to be honest, it's not like it was due to circumstances completely out of her control. She didn't deserve it, but still. And that OBNIXIOUSLY LOUD PIANO MUSIC ISN'T HELPING (Seriously, that piano is way too damn loud). -Thorfinn. Episode 1: Thorfinn has gone missing and his guardian is looking for him. You would think, their reunion would be important right? Right!? You would be wrong. The scene I was looking forward to the most from day 1 did not even happen. Not even a small scene. It's just completely glanced over. Thorfin now also has Naruto levels of Talk No Jutsu. "I have no enemies" "Why would I fight you, we just met today, I don't even know you." Alright bro, I guess murderous psychopaths who literally showed up to burn and raze your home and rape your women are good men who don't deserve to get sat on their ass by a punch to the face. Alright bro. Etc. Etc. Overall it was a good season that turned into a bad one. At least that's my take. Thanks for reading, if someone actually read all this.

Not terrible, but an overall dissapointment, spoken from someone who knows what they’re talking about
No Spoiler but still in depth Review: Context: Rising of the Shield Hero (ROTSH) is my favorite Light Novel and by extension my favorite anime series. It’s the ONLY anime I ever actually read the Light Novel for because to me it was just that good. Therefore I feel my opinion on this season, holds weight, especially more so then people who would call the objectively good 1st season trash. This is an objective review. Hmm, watching this season finally made me realize what it must’ve been like when manga readers watched Tokyo ... Ghoul for the first time. That is to say, compared to the light novel, this anime is complete garbage. But the vast majority of viewers, haven’t read the light novel and don’t care to read the light novel. And I find that it is HIGHLY annoying, to hear people keep talking about the manga or light novel of any anime. Therefore, i’m not gonna factor in the light novel here too much, only when it’s essential. This season is a far cry from the greatness that is the 1st season. Why. Let’s break it down. Animation: The thing that no excuses can be made for is the animation. ROTSH S1 (Season 1) did not have great animation, it had good animation. This season however, has subpar animation. And I mean really subpar animation. Outside of key boss fights, the animation is on the level of Isekai Smartphone or Demon Lord Retry. It’s quite bad, still serviceable, but bad. Considering that this season was delayed, I was expecting the animation to at least be on par with S1’s or hopefully on the same level as Re: Zero Starting Life in Another World S2’s animation quality. Instead, we were given the worst animation I’ve ever seen in a mainstream anime. The attacks basically all look weak, characters heads don’t move when they’re walking or running, and sometimes characters faces on still shots will give you ptsd flashbacks of season 1 Dragon Ball Super. Plot: ROTSH is not a plot driven show. The plot is simply a means to get our beloved characters to do something. That being said, the plot is fine. Plot and story is often used interchangeably. However, not in this case. The plot is fine. It’s the story that’s bad. Characters: ROTSH was never about the animation, or the fight scenes, or the plot. No, it was about the story. And a story consist of 2 things, plot and characters. Even ROTSH S1’s plot was just good, not really great. ROTSH became popular and great for one reason and one reason alone. The characters. Audiences resonated with Naofumi, a good man, who got cheated and did dirty by a woman with false rape accusations in the golden era of the Me Too movement. We loved watching Raphtilia grow up and become Naofumi’s sword and sheathe. We found filo adorable. We hated the other incompetent heroes and most of all, we hated bitch. That’s why we watched the show. ROTSH probably has the strongest 1st act in any anime period. That is why we watched it, Because we wanted to see Naofumi get even. What’s continuing the show, is our love of the gang, Naofumi, Raphtilia, and FILO. However, sad to say. It is in regard to the characters in which this season has dropped the ball the hardest. And that is due to 1 reason, the pacing. S1 covered 5 books in 25 episode. This season covered 5 books in 12 episodes. The 13 episode is a “recap” episode, in quotation marks because it’s not a recap episode. It’s an episode that takes place after the main plot already ended and shows extra tidbit interactions of the characters that took place while the plot was transpiring. And guess what? It is BY FAR the best episode. Why? Cuz it is about nothing but the characters. The characters are what make ROTSH the 3rd best isekai (objectively). The plot to Shield Hero is weak and always has been. The animation, even S1’s animation, wasn’t even as good as Wise Man’s Grandchild (but to be fair, the animation in that show is severely underrated). The characters are what make Shield Hero good. Stuff was skipped and reworked, true, but the plot was done justice in S2. It’s not for the plot that the show needed extra episodes. It’s for the characters. Allowing us time to develop an attachment and a love for the newly introduced characters. Giving us more time to develop a hatred for the villain. I f*cking hated the antagonist of this season while reading the book. While watching the anime, I didn’t feel neither hatred nor love for him. Indifference is worst then both hatred and love. Characters that were introduced in the book, will pop up at the beginning of this season and leave anime only watchers wondering who the hell they are. Characters in this anime will flip sides in less than 30 seconds. Scenes that take over an hour to read will be covered in 20 seconds in this anime, if they aren’t outright skipped. It’s not the plot scenes that are being did dirty here, it’s the character development scenes that are getting screwed in this process. This is the reason why this season pails in comparison to the last one. Overall, was it a good anime? It depends, objectively it was okay. If you liked the ROTSH S1, you’ll recognize that it isn’t as good as the 1st season, but you’ll still like it. If you like the book, you’re probably gonna be pissed off while watching. Is it deserving of the review bombing it’s receiving. No it’s not. Personal extra author tidbit. Anybody that calls Naofumi an OP MC ( a dude that can’t even attack) or ROTSH a generic isekai (to my knowledge, the only isekai with a “wave” concept, not to mention other things (and it be these same blokes that call all isekai trash, that highly rate a bunch of romance anime or movies with literally the same plot)) or ROTSH a harem anime (Cuz all anime where the protagonist has female party members is a harem anime, right guys? Totally all that an “harem anime” entails is having females around a dude) or ROTSH S1 as trash (Objectively the 3rd best isekai of all time, and if you want to debate me on this, feel free). Anybody that does these things, is raising up a red flag, and their opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm not going to lie, SAO is what put me on Anime. I will defend that show till the day I die. IDGAF what anybody says, not only is it a good show in my book, it's a great show ( even though I would still have it ranked as an 8). I've shown it to many a people as a starter anime, and not once has anyone came back talking smack about it ( unlike the majority of the anime community ). I say that to say, I am a borderline SAO fanboy, I've seen every series, every movie, everything ( except the books
...
lol ) related to it. And I must admit, the Plot/ Plotarmor/ Plotconvience/ Plotholes in this show are absolute dog shit. And anyone that says otherwise is straight-up lying. I don't generally write reviews at all, but for this review, I'll actually do what MAL wants and go through each rating. Keep in mind, i'm using this sole review to cover both Pt's 1 and 2. This review will contain spoilers only in the Plot Section for the most part.
(I'll save the best for last aka Story) Art - 9/10 By golly does this show look good or what. Some of the fight scenes, I wasn't sure if I was watching SAO, or Kimetsu No Yaiba, it looks that good. And it's a shame that nobody is talking about it. Absolutely stunning ( I'm thinking of 3 fight scenes in particular ), however, while a few of the fight scenes are out of this world. The rest of the show is just SAO A animation, which is great, but not excellent enough consistently to get it a 10 ( You need some Violet Evergarden or Fire Force levels of consistency to get a 10 in my book ). Sound - 7/10 The soundtrack doesn't disappoint, as to be expected of the show that made me fall in love with my first ever piece of foreign music (aka Crossing Field ). However, I do find that it seems that a lot of the sound fx are repetitive in the fights and otherwise. For that, it gets a 7. Character - 8/10 I love the characters, I love SAO, I LOVE KIRITO. So what do you expect from me ( My favorite protagonist is the overpowered kind)? Kirito did his best Subaru from Re: Zero Impression in one episode, I don't know why I felt the need to mention that, but I did. He didn't do nearly as good a job but it worked. All the characters old and new remain consistent to there established traits ( except for Leafa voluntarily getting molested by tentacles, but SAO has to SAO I guess ( I despise fanservice ) ). Enjoyment - 8/10 I freaking love SAO. This show could be absolute dogshit and I'd still watch it simply because of the nametag. That said I don't let my bias completely blind me. Overall, the plot in this show was so garbage, that even I couldn't ignore it. Generally, practically all shows ( with a 7 or above score from me ) would get a 10 in enjoyment. I just enjoy watching anime a lot, if it was only for enjoyment practically everything would be a 10. So this 8 is especially important coming from someone like me. That should show you how much I despised the story in this season. Story - 4/10 If you stuck around this long, this is what you are here for. HOO BOY, HOOOO BOYYYY, buckle up bucko, cuz this is finna be a doozy. I said it in the beginning and I'll repeat it here. I love SAO, I LOVEEEE SAO. If it wasn't for the numerous upon numerous videos of people talking shit about this series, I wouldn't even be able to tell you the plotholes in SAO S1 or S2 or anything. But this season. My God, this season, Jesus have mercy, this shit was trash. Absolute dogshit. I don't even know where to begin with my frustrations. -DEATHS: Okay okay, let's start here. A wise man once said, "People die, when they are killed." True statement right? WRONG, COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY WRONG. I didn't write an SAO A review, but if I did I would have mentioned this. THIS MAN EUGEO HAS DIED SO MANY FREAKING TIMES AND ALWAYS COMES BACK. Like, I don't know if you like SAO or not, but if you do, you probably didn't recognize this. However I did, and I commented to a fellow SAO lover friend of mine about it then and I will comment about it now. Back in SAO A, EUGEO DIED LIKE 6 ( MAYBE I'm exaggerating, but I'm honestly not sure if I am or not ) TIMES, 6 FREAKING TIMES, IN ONE FIGHT. ONE FIGHT WITH THE ADMINISTRATOR. But that wasn't enough, no that wasn't nearly enough. How many Gosh Damn times is this man going to come back in a dream or in spirit to help Kirito out? I'll tell you, EVERY GODDAMN FIGHT, EVERY SINGLE FIGHT KIRITO FIGHTS, WHETHER MENTALLY OR PHYSICALLY THIS MAN COMES BACK. If (awake) Kirito is on the screen, you can rest assured that within every 5 minutes or so Eugeo will make an appearance. Kirito is honestly homosexual, like legit homosexual (MAL please don't take down this comment, I don't mean that offensively in any way). He goes to bed crying at night, thinking about Eugeo. When he awoke from his 200-year slumber, he no longer called Asuna by her name simply calling her "queen" before realizing his mistake and correcting himself to say Asuna ( Which he only did at a later date ) ( I feel so dedicated to this review, I went back to check this, Episode 10 11:40). I say that to say, Kirito is homosexual deal with it. Eugeo is literally immortal and will show up to perform an asspull anytime Kirito needs it. Okay, that by itself is a sin. That by itself is a huge sin in my book. BUT THEN, there is a little known character known as Kayaba Akihiko. Did you think that God is omniscient and omnipresent? Hahaha, YOU FOOL, you obviously don't know of Kayaba Akihiko. If I have to hear this man's name again, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Before there was Eugeo to pull out asspulls, there was a little known guy known as Kayaba Akihiko. Are we sure that Kirito is the protagonist of this story? Cuz honestly, I don't even know anymore. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Would you believe that Kayaba used to be the antagonist? I wouldn't. This man has been killed physically, he has been killed mentally, he has had his memory data wiped from the code across all the games, he has been uploaded to a robot ( WHICH MANAGED TO PULL A HUGE ASSPULL, I will get to that later ) just for that robot to be killed, he has been killed from the internet, he has been killed from your mom's basement. YET, YET, HE WILL ALWAYS COME BACK IN SOME SHAPE FORM OR FASHION TO SAVE KIRITO'S ASS. Before there were cars, Kayaba Akihiko made Kirito a plane, before there were guns Kayaba Akihiko made Kirito a Canon. Before any problem that can actually defeat the protagonist arises, Kayaba Akihiko will pull out some asspull from the grave and fix everything. Need I say more, EVEN AFTER ALL THOSE DEATHS, KAYABA AKIHIKO SOMEHOW SOMEWAY HAS THE IP ADDRESS FOR THE UNDERWORLD AND WILL MANAGE TO SOMEHOW EMAIL IT TO ALICE. Like what the hell, out of anything wouldn't RAFT, you know, the people that invented the underworld, already have the IP address? NOPE, THEY DON'T. BUT GUESS WHO DOES, OMNISCIENT, OMNIPRESENT, KAYABA AKIHIKO. Need I say anymore on the subject of deaths? Now let's move on to the subject of asspulls. -ASSPULLS: Okay there are a bunch of these, a bunch of these. But I'm going to list 3 that stood out the most to me ( also ones I can copy and paste from my Disqus account lol ). 1st: Sinon's sniper shot not instantly killing the big bad. Look, I like anime but I have other hobbies too. In particular, cars and guns. Sinon's Sniper Rifle is an antimaterial rifle, shooting big boy rounds. I'm assuming that, it's shooting the highest level of big boy 50 BMG round, aka 50 CAL High Explosive Incendiary Armor-Piercing rounds. Keep in mind, a regular 50 CAL BMG shot can blow your arm off, or blow your head off, or leg off. A regular round, without all these added effects. Naw, naw, Let's just have the big bad ( I actually can't remember his name lol ) get a little hole in his hand from stopping one of these rounds. If you don't know crap about guns, you should refrain from using them period. 2nd: Once Again we turn our attention to our lord and savior Kayaba Akihiko. As a goddamn robot, he died, he died. His circuits were fried, he was no longer connected to the wifi. All his parts were disabled. Dead, dead and gone. AS A ROBOT. NAW, hahaha, NAWWWW, YOU THOUGHT I WAS SERIOUS. NAWW, YOU SEE THAT DID HAPPEN. BUT GUESS WHAT, THE POWER OF BONERS CAN MAGICALLY MAKE A ROBOT UNABLE TO HEAR, ABLE TO HEAR AND TO TOP IT OFF, CIRCUITS RUN AGAIN JUST LONG ENOUGH TO ACCOMPLISH THE TASK THAT SAVES EVERYONE. Do you see my point about how I hate his character? You think Kirito is Jesus-kun, hahahhahahha, you uneducated fool. The real god, is Kayaba Akihiko the bringer of all the asspulls. 3rd: 🎶Du Du DuDuDu, BANAMANA, Du Du-Du Du, BANAMANA, Du Du Du-Du-Du Du-Du-Du Du-Du-Du Du-Du-Du Charging My Attack ( TFS REFERENCE) 🎶. Just when you thought, you had seen every asspull known to mankind. Just when you thought, surely it can't get any worst? Kirito pulls out a FUCKING SPIRITBOMB. A spirit bomb from DBZ to win. Not only did everyone know to magically raise there hands in the air and offer there "spirit" or whatever. He then absorbs it ( freaking DBZ Budokai 3 style ) into his sword and unleashes and absolutely gorgeous Starburst Stream? HOHO, You thought that was the end of the bullshit? HELL NAW, NAW JUST TO REMIND YOU WHO BEST BOY IS, EUGEO LITERALLY, I MEAN LITERALLY, LIKE ACTUALLY LITERALLY, COMES BACK FROM THE DEAD TO SAVE KIRITO'S ASS BY BLOCKING AN ATTACK WITH HIS SWORD. Need I say anymore? -PLOT HOLES: Alright now, I know the Underworld isn't technically a game. But it was well established in the beginning of SAO A, that there is an hp system, an authority system, and a level system. So tell me, WHY IN THE HELL DID IT GO FROM GAMEWORLD TO REAL LIFE? Like what? These noobs ( I believe they said all the red guys were given LVL 30 standard mob accounts ) are suddenly able to one hit like it's real life. A slash of there weak swords can take the arms of off a god account? That doesn't make any goddamn sense based on the established rules. This whole fight should've been a complete curb stomp by Kirito's Team. THEY SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO TAKE DAMAGE FROM THESE NOOBS. This whole fight, this whole arc, should have played out just like that scene on the bridge from SAO 1 all those years ago. 3 Guys slashing Kirito and his health bar regenerating so fast that the slashes have no effect. That should be the case for every single integrity knight and every single god account that took part in the fighting. Yet these red mobs of complete noobs were somehow able to overpower a multitude of both god accounts and converted LVL 99 accounts. Makes absolutely no sense. There are a multitude of other plot holes, but this comment is getting kind of long so I'll leave it at this massive one - On To Things That Bothered Me Personally: I don't know about you guys, but I like my girlfriend to love me and me only in a romantic way. At the very least, I want her to make it clear that she's in a relationship. Maybe that's just me though. Because this girl Asuna lets people touch her man so much. Sinon Kissed him ( RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER FACE), Alice laid on top of him and slept next to him, Eugeo stole his heart, like bro what the frick. I don't like fanservice, but except for the fanservice itself, I don't mind harems. However, when the character is clearly in a relationship with another character, I expect that to be the end to the harem shenanigans. The amount of stuff Asuna allows others to get away with doing to Kirito is ridiculous. Let's not mention the fact, that after he finally came out of his comatose state, the only thing she got was a headbutt!? Like really!? I don't even like romance, but I'd expect her to run up anime style and jump on top of him or something. At the very least kiss him, naw hear's a headbutt. But that's okay though, Sinon got her kiss ( sarcasm ). Overall Rating 7/10 Now I know that Plot Section was long as heck, and I had to purposefully stop myself to keep myself from writing even more in it. But even still SAO is SAO and I freaking love it regardless. The Overall Rating should represent a combination of the Scores. While the plot is horrendous, everything else is good or excellent. Therefore overall it's a 7/10 for me. I will say that personally, outside of SAO S2 PT2 this is my least favorite SAO part simply due to how bad the plot is. It's a shame that such good animation went to waste on this ridiculous plot. Anyway, if you actually read through all of this. Thank You So Much as it took me over an hour to organize my thoughts and type this all out. I don't plan on doing many reviews like this at all, but I appreciate you reading this rare one. Plz, send me friend request as I'm a sad little weeb with hardly any friends on this site. Thanks.

I don't give a F*ck what anybody says. This show was one thing and one thing only entertaining. I absolutely hate romance shows and Slice of Lifes for the most part. I'm more of an action type of fella. But my God, this shows predictable plot had me by the balls. I predicted every single thing that was gonna happen in this show story-wise, and I was still ecstatic and cringing when it came to pass. NEVER has an anime made me look away from my screen so much in pure cringe and second-hand embarrassment. Incest a-okay as long as you say no chromo. I
...
don't think this show is good, quite the opposite. But it's so bad, it's good and it's so predictable it's unpredictable. I did not enjoy watching this show, but I freaking loved watching this show. I think that in this regard, is where a lot of these stuck up essay writing reviewers fall. It's like hating a bag guy, for being a bad guy. I can't explain it.
All I can say is, this show made me feel some type of way, and for that reason, it gets such a high score. Never again will I subject my mind to this level of trash. Though it's not like I hated it or anything you stupid baka.
