HOW does something as heartfelt and warm as this exist without any reviews? Does anyone care to explain to me this blasphemy? It's dead serious. I wish to cry a bit right now.
Don't worry Metaller-san, I'm on it.
Bored of conventional storytelling and crave something fresh, but also close to real life? Go read this.
Prefer to have characters with hobbies or professions that add to their charm? Read this.
Crave a slow-developing relationship, where intimacy is earned and toxicity is nowhere to be found? If you read this far, how do you still didn't open a new tab and proceed to read it?
...
Do you like seeing how extreme introvert finds love and courage to interact with others? Me, too. (anything that adds hope to my life)
Wishing to see a child acting like a psychotherapist you visited to solve your relationship dilemmas? Not a real question. I just wanted to commemorate my wish to have a daughter like that.
Are you willing to defend a slice of life to death? If yes, stop reading this already, and move on. Geez. No one actually reads the whole review nowadays, you know?
TL: DR (are you real right now?) I solemnly promise you this manga has one of the cutest boys you have ever seen, ok? So hit that Plan to Read (someday maybe) already, and go on with your day.
Stay safe and mentally semi-stable.

Pretentious, chaotic, and lazily open-ended. And pure relief when I managed to finish the last episode.
∞ Who is Mars Red aimed at? Definitely not an average anime follower.
I doubt that even folks drown to niche shows are going to find Mars Red charming. It's very theatre-heavy and into the most confusing way of storytelling. Don't get me wrong. I love me some mental challenge, but that lack of explanations would frustrate even the most chill person.
Those with a degree in English literature could be the ones to enjoy this, but even there I'm not so sure. I still believe that anime isn't
...
all that deep.
∞ Why so low score? Confusing world. Dull characters. Nonexistent purpose to the story.
World. The more you get into it, the harder it is to figure stuff out. Especially after the major event that throws the world setting on its head. After that, conflicting pieces of information and no answers are the norms. Also, unnecessary time jumps further challenge your ability to piece unexplained narrative turns.
Characters. They all have undeveloped goals and predictable roles in the story. I would be hard-pressed to call any of them relatable or compelling. Initially, Maeda Yoshinobu had the most interesting character concept - a man whose sheer force of will made him stronger than any supernatural being. Sounds amazing, right? Yet he is criminally underused and his impact at the ending is...confusing and infuriating.
Vision. There is no genuine sense of purpose behind anime. Some vamps need to work hard to save their humanity, and some lost it. Vamps are truly fragile creatures. Well-intentional extremism never leads to great solutions in practice. That’s it. The end.
∞ Is there anything salvageable? Of course, but it's not worth to watch the whole season for it.
Designs of background and characters are far from generic and anime is highly atmospheric at moments. Some shots from the first couple of episodes had movie quality to them.
The ending song is great and is a clever way to tell the background story of one of the characters.

Overall, anime had its moments, but I’m not as satisfied with it as I expected.
This was like riding cub up and down the hill with one last look at the peak. The story had a great message - nurture resourcefulness and friendships against any obstacle. The cast was likable and inspiring, while the atmosphere left me motivated and relaxed. It had ASMR, too. And after the midpoint, my enjoyment went downhill. Now at the bottom of the hill, I can only reminisce about the view from the top.
Summary.
Since cub instantly brightens her lonely life, Kagura buys it and grows invested in mastering it.
...
As a novice driver, most of the first episodes were about her figuring basics and finding needed gear. It’s a gear-per-episode pattern, but everything isn’t about gear. It’s about patient resolve to find solutions when you lack knowledge or funds.
Characters.
I loved the friendship between Koguma and Reiko - the way it operated on unspoken mutual fondness. Reiko was a great to the show's message about resolve. Her attempting to climb Mt Fuji and not letting failure get the best of her is my second best episode in a season. She is a badass motorbike aficionado and a natural risk-taker. Reiko is a great friend and a well-written character.
What did I like the most?
The peak of the season has to be a school trip episode. It unites all the experiences from the previous ones and adds a sense of pride and accomplishment. It was like watching your kid making the first big step into life. Left me feeling proud, nostalgic, and hopeful.
Why so low score?
The slope began after the 2/3 of the season. At first, the episodes were ok, but they failed to make an impression. Character improvement was little to nonexistent. Then the third main character was introduced - a generic shy girl who only kept breaking initial allure. Koguma became closed off and somewhat apathetic, making the whole dynamic feeling off. The story became less engaging and boring than moving or relaxing.
When the infamous episode 11 happened, my emotional investment was very low to fire up my pitchfork. I get Koguma internalized that she can’t depend on any authority, but that was dumb and unrealistic. For me, even problematic since nobody older and wiser say anything bad about her act.
Ending.
The last episode had some of the initial magic in it, but it felt more like a commercial for Honda. The feeling of real-life accomplishment for the main characters didn't show up for the party.
Animation.
The first two episodes have some very ugly CGI when it comes to people. Luckily, things do improve after the second episode and bad CGI is rarely seen. When it comes to employing CG in showcasing cubs in greater detail, I don't any criticism.

Overall impression: Don't expect much. At best, it was watchable mediocrity. At worst, it made me frown at how the initial promising idea had been wasted.
Aside from the good battle tactic and the idea of dangerous goblins, there is nothing to praise here. The world-building is ambiguous and regular for a fantasy genre. Characters are one-dimensional and boring, without any chemistry between them to speak of. Both animation and sound are unremarkable and generic. All women are eye candy.
Don't expect some gritty, clever dark fantasy. Sexual assault always was the first move a writer did to qualify his fantasy as disturbing and realistic. Often,
...
what followed after was an uninspiring tale. Thus, it has been the easiest way to spot writers who aim high but lack the talent or wish to put much effort into their creation. Here, the decision to stir crowds without a valid narrative justification for violating woman's bodies only destroyed this anime's potential. Disappointing. It could have been an engaging average adventure, offering some new view of a common trope that goblins are for beginners.
While at it, expect a parade of fantasy stereotypes and a roaster of big-breasted girls. And the story sometimes decides a viewer must spy on them while they sleep naked. Truly outstanding narrative choices.
Is there anything decent here? Well, when it doesn't try to be edgy it's an enjoyable fantasy. The initial idea that goblins are still a developing race with the potential to in time be a serious danger to humans has its moments. Dungeon action is enjoyable for the most of the time.

TL; DR Who said that anime this average in every possible sense could be this watchable? I ended up liking every minute of it. A pretty boy for every taste, a snarky banters, a game that you don't need to understand to follow, and lots of drama. My brain left on a vacation, leaving me with two brain cells and they were enough to make the task done.
Summary. The plot is pretty sad if you think about it. A rugby prodigy got into a motorcycle accident and was left paralyzed for months. With a serious neck injury as a result of it (a herniated disk),
...
even tackling him has paralyzing repercussions. And like that his rugby career is over. To stay in a game that he adores, Natsusa decides to transform from the player to the manager and trainer of the club. From that point onward, he figures out the club's internal drama and supports others. Dear, made myself depressed now. Besides the main storyline, several smaller ones are a joy to follow like who of them will go pro.
I fancy Natsusa, my cocky little gremlin. Put in an unfair and tragic situation, he chooses to focus on the things he can do, rather than drown in misery. But you can see that takes its toll on him. Aside from his resolve, he is pretty eccentric. Cunning and sarcastic, perceptive and opportunistic primadonna. A scheming sweet-talker. A little sh*t you will love. DON’T skip the ending theme.
It's a sports anime, so you know what that means...A bunch of pretty boys. Every guy here can be described in two three words: a big bro guy, a bad boy guy, a friendly chubby guy, a strict vice-captain guy, a lean smart guy... there are 24 of them, so start your list for easier memorization now! Some of them get some semblance of a thought-out personality, while others stayed one-dimensional. Either way, I like them hanging out together and being bros. By the time of the final game, I cared enough to be tense and worry about the score.
There are a lot of yaoi moments, but not official feelings. It’s quite obvious who is couple with who, even though it’s packaged as brotherly love. Dub goes one step further in that direction and amplifies words like thirsty or thick. There are some telling physical contacts and positions, too.
This anime lives for drama. Boys are always calling out and one-upping each other. Some rivalry here, some hurt feelings there, some buried history between. Many of the conflicts are solved by boys opening up and sharing their feelings, or throwing each other on the field. And at the end of each fight, some basic lesson about teamwork and self-confidence is served. "Something something positive vibes, bla bla believe in yourself". A pep talk never-ending.
Art is by far the weakest part of the anime. There is no fluidity of movement and lots of camera cuts when rugby is being played. Everything looks generic and done cheaply. And that eye coloring could be better. Also, why did they make the title design so ugly? It pains me to even look at it. And that crown on top of 24. A royalty? Really?

So, it’s not my intention to convince you that this is the underrated gem, ok? Because it isn’t. People did score it pretty well. Yet, I found it more enjoyable than the mean score would imply so I will share my perspective on it. While at it I should mention that love history, philosophy, and tragedy in my anime, so if you don't - stop, and move along. Spoilers present (but like not overly detailed).
Summary. It’s the 20th century and The Tokugawa shogunate is a thing of the past. Violent repression, censorship, and reserves of magical energy are all that keep this social
...
structure from crumbling. Even the small disagreement with the regime spells instant death. As energy reserves dwindle and its control slips, the political stage is ready for a major change. In the midpoint of the soon-to-be revolution is Sawa. She is the regime’s executioner (cleaner, if we are being honest), hell-bent on killing a responsible for the massacre of her clan several years prior. By some crazy coincidence, that person is the head of the rebellion, a mad scientist called Janome.
Ok. As you could see, world-building is ok, nothing too detailed or innovative. The background is there when writers need it. As for a storyline, it has three parts, called books (so we know we are sophisticated viewers hehe). Each book has its mood and focuses on a different aspect of revenge.
Book 1 "An Open Season For Jerome". Here, anime was the most fun for me. It mixed both action and back-stabbing, with some morally bankrupt characters you love to hate. Everybody here (minus children) is a self-centered jerk and murderer for money or a goal. Like them, Sawa doesn't worry too much about the lives she destroys along the way. Forgive and forget she will not. I greatly appreciated this grim and unforgiving world of espionage and violence. Here she meets Asahi, a small girl with history mirroring her own but with a heart that could find the strength to forgive. Revenge is too bloody and dark of the path for her to take. The wisest girl here.
Book 2 "What To Do With My Life Now". It's a stark departure from fast-paced book 1, and more focused on Sawa's transformative journey. Here we can see that Sawa didn't plan her life past her revenge, showing how revenge burned her from the inside. Only thanks to her bond to Asahi she gets to find her kinder side again, capable of feeling guilty and daring to dream. The side we can connect to. This part was the slowest one, but it needed to happen. Sawa needed to have something to strive for.
Book 3 “When You Embark On A Journey Of Revenge, Dig Two Graves". Well, you guessed correctly that anime about revenge couldn’t finish on episode 9. Sawa has more avenging to do but as a kinder version of her prior self. Here, the story comes full circle. Many predictable revelations happen since anime is consistent with its core idea. Revenge is a cycle of never-ending violence and pain. One which follows its path blindly only passes original injustice to younger generations. And what it’s done, always comes back.
TL; DR With that said, let's conclude this. This is a decent meditation on nature on revenge, with outcomes in the first row. It's not too ambitious and it doesn't overreach. It's nothing you already didn't know or heard. It's cyclical in nature, so you will be able to link dots and ques like a pro. Writing gets its job done, I do not agree it's too convoluted. Yes, some side characters could afford to have more explored motives, but they are also a bit crazy so...let's deduce points and move on.
P.S. Sound and animation-wise, this is one of the better anime this spring. OP quickly became one of my seasonal favorites, go listen to it. Animation is great – fluid, artistic, and unique.

TL; DR. This anime is what the love child of Tokyo Ghoul and Twilight would look like. It copies world-building and moral dilemmas of the former but keeps them generalized and bland. Likewise, a good chunk of the couple drama is lifted straight-up from a generic vampire romance book. Mix that with inferior storytelling and overly detailed explanations and you will get this well-lit dumpster fire of the show. Either you break psychologically by watching how scrambled and inconsistent everything is or you accept the ride and start howling into the pillow while trying not to smother yourself out of self-hate. This hits that sweet
...
love-to-hate spot perfectly for me. <3 Enjoyment – 4
Summary. It pretty common story. A smart girl meets a handsome, gloomy boy and falls in love with him on the spot. Boy saves a girl, so she double likes him. The boy starts liking her back and shows her a more devilish, uncontrollable side of him. The girl still wants to be with him, so he double likes her. They grace us all with the sweetest of anime hugs. But their happiness is cut short by the terroristic organization that tries to manipulate the public into killing/segregating all the devils. So said girl gets dragged into a series of unfortunate events to save all innocent devils in the land of the rising sun, all while trying to support her boyfriend and safely date him.
In anime where people LOVE to explain things in excruciating detail (like 99,9% of the time), it's a strain on any brain to process that information overload. There are tides of unimportant information. Presently, I still had a very little idea what was happening a good chunk of the anime's running time, especially in the later episodes. The story feels too convoluted and every character's attempt at explanation made things even worse.
However, what made me really enraged was the treatment of anime's main female lead. Tsukasa didn’t deserve this personality overhaul. She started as a rational, intelligent and independent woman, but ended race as a helpless, supportive observer. She is described as Ph.D. material but never has any meaningful contribution to planning or offering a fresh look at things. Sadly, from lines such as „silence doesn’t mean consent“ and being a metaphor for female sexual awakening, writers reduced her to a common insecure and over-dependent girlfriend that foolishly runs into the arms of a boyfriend seized by bloodlust.
Dub voice acting was really...educational. Usually, I don’t pay attention if the performance isn’t amazing. But, boy do I now know how to spot a botched job. There isn’t any effort at acting, just people reading in the microphone. My theory is that those voice actors just wanted for a workday to end, so they could go home and contemplate career decisions they made.
So, how could I enjoy this? Well, by turning my brain off and doing some light multitasking in the background. The most embarrassing moments made me laugh like a hyena to the point of having my lungs hurt. I also argued with the screen and had some beer, too.

TL; DR This is a historical drama with hints of future romance, bound to b(l)oom in the later seasons. There is a lot of comedy and sweet moments, with a dash of serious political intrigue and dark moments later on. Pacing-wise, this is a slow burn experience with a lot of healing, meme-like humor, and pleasant character exploration. The author wisely decided to take their sweet time to work on emotional relationships, so when gut-punching comes you bet it's gonna hurt. Plus, I adore the female MC, which is a rare occurrence for a romance genre. She is written with a notable understanding of how
...
women can have many sides to their personalities. Also, her more romantic side doesn’t rule her life or the logic behind her decisions (rare, right?). To conclude, this manhwa managed to surprise me and make me excited again for the romance genre. Enjoyment - 10
Summary. The setting is vaguely mid 19th century Germany. Shuli, the matriarch of the Neuwanstein family, a stepmother of four, and a favorite subject of gossiping nobles finally makes good on her husband’s dying wish. Her oldest stepson is getting married, thus making him the new head of the powerful family. However, due to estrangement from her stepchildren, she is rudely asked not to attend the ceremony. Full of regrets and pain, Shuli leaves everything in pursuit of freedom and happiness. At the next moment, she miraculously wakes up on the morning of her husband's death, seven years prior. With no way back, she embraces the opportunity to live this new timeline differently. Since she is now a more mature person (23) in a young girl's body (16), her new goal is to be a more emotionally present mother and to live to attend her son's wedding day.
Shuli is a character I have a lot of feelings and respect for. Essentially, she is a child robbed of her childhood. As a young girl, Shuli was forcibly married to a wealthy widower who entrusted her with the protection of his children, treasures, and political power until his oldest son reaches adulthood. Out of duty, she does it all while surviving in the world of adults and being barely older than kids she swore to protect. In the new timeline, we follow her transformation from a withdrawn and always on defense girl to a more emotionally open and confident young woman.
Not to spoil anything, but stepchildren are also written very well. Aside from the understandable cold greeting, their slight rudeness towards her in the past is acceptably explained very early. Keep in mind that they are motherless and fatherless kids, jet unable to properly express their feelings, just as Shuli was. That makes some ending parts of the season emotionally devastating when you see how misunderstandings can keep people apart and in the end estrange them forever. (No, I am not going to cry).
If I had to say something bad about the whole experience, that would probably be that the first few chapters have too much humor in them and thus spend too little time on more important things like the current state of the family and the country. Letter chapters do get better in balancing serious and funny while showing us POVs of other characters, so these things tend to go away. The main villain also feels underdeveloped, but I think that is because the main obstacle of this season was the characters themselves, not something external.
Context and design-wise, don’t expect historical accuracy. Everything seems like it’s pulled from different periods to make for an aesthetically pleasant and dramatic read. Likewise, manhwa isn't too focused on the complex of political intrigue, but we do get some good scheming and ok broad strokes of global politics. Art is gorgeous, with some occasional jaw-dropping panels.

TL; DR_part1 Wow, that was a delightful anime. My heart is full of joy and then some atop when thinking about it. It’s colorful, likable and for former gamers, quite nostalgic. All in all, very adventurous and wholesome. My sincerest recommendation for everyone wishing to brighten their day a lot.
Summary. The story is about a newbie called Maple (an in-game name), a schoolgirl who accepts an invitation from her friend to join the new MMOVR. Being a positive and imaginative girl without any gaming experience, she starts her virtual journey with a more difficult quest by passing it most unconventionally. As she doesn't like getting
...
hurt, she decides to invest every acquired point in vitality only. In few hours, this approach makes her a heavy tank with rare and weird abilities which she then unorthodoxly connects to make a weird, OP build.
In a nutshell, this anime is about painless snowballing and if anybody is having a problem with watching a mentally healthy, positive, kind OP character, I am sorry. This isn’t anime for you. No permadeath and absolutely no need to be at the edge of the seat. Everything is going to be fine.
The close friendship between our main duo, Maple and Sally is a thing that made all in for the ride. They complementing and encouraging each other equals my friendship goals. Between the two of them, Maple is a more carefree one, primarily playing for fun and weird shenanigans. At the same time, she is a nurturing individual, a competent tactician under pressure, and a dash of a mad scientist. On the other hand, Sally can offer a great deal of history in competitive online gaming and is more in tune with the „laws“ of the virtual world. This makes her more of the strategist, the cautious one with a trickster streak. If Maple is the vital heart of the guild, Sally is the brain. A badass brain.
Aside from MCs, the supporting cast is a likable bunch, being weird in their own way, but not as near as Maple. They are a group of supportive friends gathered under the band of mutual likes and respect. The type of people you wish to meet online, but never do. However, they could stand to get more focus in season 2.
As I played a little bit of MMORPG to cover the basics, this anime took me on some serious nostalgia trip. The first few episodes made me relive that tingling feeling of exploration when you start a new game, while the second part of the season reminded me why I always played solo. However, since this is a casual anime, creators didn’t dwell too much on accurate representation of more technical stuff like realistic stats or skill metrics, so expect these things to be simplified and unrealistic sometimes.
The background music works well in both action and relaxing scenes, with one exception being an insert song called Good Night by Rico Sasaki which is simply too amazing for words. Every time it played, I wanted to go out and dance like a crazy fairy in the rain.
TL; DR_part2 Enjoyment - 9
As I was saying, this is anime about good friends helping each other out to have a great time collectively. Everything is harmless and uncomplicated. Everyone is kind and supportive. There is no pressure, just people trying to have fun. A slice of gaming life, if you will. Go watch and catch some good vibes.

This anime is like every shade of bizarre and it's so my vibe. It goes from hilarious references from pop culture to full-blown horror and suspenseful thriller out of the blue while maintaining a roughly reasonable sequence of events. To make things even better, the plot is very mature and calls out quite relatable romantic and career problems.
The very first thing that caught my attention, besides distinctive and aesthetically pleasing animation, is the main character. I can not stop telling you how real-life believable I find her. She is far from acute, wise, and pure traditional representation of women in anime. Minade Koda
...
is a headstrong, lively, smart, and brave young woman, but also sometimes insensitive, obnoxious, and too quick to conclusions. All this makes her believable human which growth keeps me invested.
Yet, nothing is perfect. Although dynamic and intriguing, the story sometimes is all over the place and wacky. Lucky, that only made me more curious were anime will choose to go next. Yet I can see someone getting too confused and disengaged after watching for some time.
