This anime is an has an exceptional story, interesting characters, and huge medieval style battles that few anime pull of as well. Unlike many other anime this one has a story that doesn't feel like a retelling of another story (at least to my knowledge) and comes off as a new fresh experience even when i go back to re-watch it.
The story sets you up right away with a mystery that draws your right in. The mystery, in part, is actually a huge underlying plot element that keeps coming back throughout the series. The mystery is of course, the main character's true identity. The story
...
continues on and you begin to get a feel for the world they live in, which in a nutshell is sort of like a fantasy medieval world with only a handful of things that make it a fantasy world. As the story goes on you slowly become more involved with the main character and those around him, the anime doesn't try to shamelessly get its viewers attention by throwing bigger and bigger battles each episode, it will often will take time to have character development, which is a surprising thing to see as it would be a simple task for them to forgo that in favor of non-stop fighting. However this adds to the overall quality of the story because then you actually begin to care about the characters and it gets you much more involved in the story.
As for the characters themselves, honestly originally I was gong to say that while many of the characters are just stereotypes they are done well. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized, that I couldn't think of a single character that was just a simple stereotype (save a few minor characters), and realized that not only was most every major character in the story unique and real, I also actually liked most of them. as for the main character he is extremely humanistic in the way he carries himself. Everything he does just seems like a natural human reaction from a man in his position, and it really translates well for the story when the main character is so much of a real person.
The opening theme song is actually really good and very catchy and even when I would re-watch the series again, I found myself listening to the opening every time. While its no masterpiece, it certainly gets you pumped and excited for the next episode, whether it be action packed or a day where a little more character development is explored, the opening does a great job of hyping you up for the next episode.
Overall this anime stands out from the crowd, bringing you a creative and well written story, as well as highly developed and very humanistic characters. Not only is the action awesome and fun to watch the story is extremely thorough and draws you in as well. I'd very highly recommend this anime to most anyone, whether it be someone who wants to see epic action with large scale battles, someone who wants to see a story that stands out from the crowd, or someone who wants a bit more substance in the main characters, nearly everyone would be happy they watched this anime. Creative, well written, and mesmerizing to the very end, this is Utawarerumono.

Heroic Age is a good anime, full of awesome space battles, giant Mech-like monsters that battle over the fate of the galaxy, and a sense of survival as the entire human race is losing a war that will lead to its extinction.
The battles themselves are one of the reasons I am draw to this anime as much as I am. Every battle is big with an enormous amount of human soldiers, ships, and alien species. As the series progresses the battles get bigger, more impressive and much more destructive. Personally I feel like based on the battles alone I feel like this anime is worth
...
at least checking out. Also while this is considered a Mecha in some regards, its done in a much similar way it is done in Code Geass, where the Mechs are just this anime's version of a super soldier and are just as destructible as anything else is, which I feel is much more exciting.
The characters in the series are nothing too special, and are none too unique, but there are a few characters that you will get attached to and that's when the series picks up, because then it matters to you if they die.
As far as music goes, the only song of interest is the opening which is very good, but not so much so that it worthy of extra special note (other than this one of course) but nonetheless is a catchy tune and you will find yourself listening to it out of choice at the beginning of each episode.
Overall, the story and characters are nothing new but are done well so while you have a good idea how the series will end, the journey itself is the most enjoyable part. I'd recommend this anime simply based on the battles alone, they are so big and impressive that they (with good reason) take center stage. If you have the time and are in the mood for an epic space survival full of large scale battle, give this one a try, because personally I never get tired of it.

Usually I'm not a fan of comedies, animes or otherwise. However this one was different, all the jokes were genuinely funny and the story surrounding the whole series was (while admittedly silly) well put together and enjoyable to watch.
Unlike most anime this one follows a non-linear style where story is episodic, where each episode is a self-contained story that is loosely connected to the larger story as a whole. I feel like it adds to the atmosphere as well as helps to make the jokes that much more funny. It allows the writers to focus on how to make each individual episode good rather
...
than to make the series have an overarching plot that keeps the viewer watching each episode. By using this style there is no need to watch it all in one go and you can watch it in pieces whenever you have the time.
In this anime, there is no great evil threatening to take over the land, nor is there a need for our hero to find some sort of hidden power from within. This anime simply revels in each episode and makes the most out of what it has, and it really show. It makes for a fun and entertaining ride as you watch the series progress.
Ika Masume, or squid girl, is a comical and sometimes outright dimwitted character that is always the focus of each episode. The way she interacts with the world that surrounds her, or more frequently how the world interacts with her, makes for a fantastic time.
Whether your looking for a lighthearted anime or just looking for a good laugh this anime is definitely worth checking out. Its definitely an anime I'd recommend and one that I'd re-watch any day.

I'll start off by saying that this anime, in my opinion is a kin to a hidden gem. The main reason I say its akin to a hidden gem is because I'm honestly not sure how well know this anime is, however before I happened across this anime at the local anime store I had never heard of it.
The story, at least for me gets better as you go on. As the anime began I found it good, but nothing spectacular. Then as I got about half-way through I thought it was easily a favorite of mine but definitely not top ten material. As
...
I got the end, or more specifically, the very last part, my opinion shot through the roof, blowing my expectations away with such a surprise that I couldn't but admire it. Without spoiling anything, I do have to say that this anime has one of the best twist endings I have seen, partly because I was so confident in my ability to predict how it would end, and how wrong I turned out to be.
The music is nothing that impressive until you get the main character's theme song. It starts playing about half-way through the series and this is when the series kicks it up to the next gear, the song is so powerful in how its delivered, its not the song its self but how well the song ties in with the main character's thoughts and feelings at the time that makes it feel so powerful.
As for the characters themselves while overall they aren't too impressive, I do have two favorite that I feel stand out from the crowd. Lizzie Garland, and Hardheaded Tony.
The way this story keeps you guessing is a huge advantage of its, you usually have some idea of whats going to happen but the delivery of which is always surprising.
This was actually the second anime I showed to my Father, who is not someone who particularly likes anime, but even he said that it was thoroughly enjoyable when it was all over.
Either way I think this is a great anime full of great action, suspense, and interesting plot twists that will keep you watching right up to the end. Its worth a watch most any day in my book.

This anime is my 6th favorite anime of all time and it is very unlikely that it will be pushed out of its spot anytime soon. The main character, who is literally being followed by misfortune, handles his everyday life with an accepting attitude. Now while this may not sound impressive, imagine if your whole life everything that could go wrong did (aside from tripping and cracking your head open or something of course) would you be able to just keep happy knowing that everyone around you is much better off than you are simply because your are unlucky?
This anime has some of the best
...
anime magic I've seen, second only to the magic used in Rental Magica, as well as having the best "powers" in any anime ever which is more developed in the spin off A Certain Scientific Railgun.
This show has so much going on that you never know what to expect, and I don't mean this in a bad way, like you are going to be overwhelmed. What I mean is this anime isn't afraid to take chances and do things you wouldn't have otherwise expected. The world itself is also a bit unique mixing both the technological and the mystical to great effect.
As for the main heroine, while at times I do feel like she's a bit bland, or rather more a bit stereotypical, but more often than not she's quite an interesting character to watch. As the story progresses relatively early on, the story takes a plot twist that I was honestly not expecting. I'm not going to spoil anything of course, but the anime does a great job of breaking your expectations and putting on spectacular fight scenes that are rivaled by few.
Its a great anime in my book one that I'd recommend any day, and I'm proud to have it as one of my top ten.

This is my favorite anime of all time, so I apologize if I come off as being long winded.
Where to begin? Well I suppose I should start with the characters. I'll admit, the premise of the story actually made me overlook this anime 3 separate times because I thought the main character was going to be a gigantic pervert. But not only was I wrong, I was completely off the mark. Katsuragi Keima (who is my second favorite anime character of all time by the way) has little to no interest in real girls, preferring the girls in his game, claiming that reality is
...
just a crappy game. Everything about him, from the way he presents himself to the way he speaks comes off sounding so cool. In reality if he we're real he would be a huge nerd, but his presence is so cool that he can be talking about "parsley" and give an incredibly well structured and well formed speech that you can't help but agree with. Not only is Katsuragi cool, but extremely intelligent, but what most people see as him squandering his talent playing games, we see as his greatest asset. Accompanied by Elsie the exact opposite of his character, being clumsy with no tact, relatively stupid, popular, and very moe at times . All the other characters who serve as his "conquests" are also very good characters in their own rights. While not nearly as well developed as Katsuragi, they all are stereotypes we have seen in one anime or another, but are done so well, that you forget that they are supposed to be a stereotype, that is until Katuragi reminds you by saying that they are just like a character from his game.
The story itself is just a simple set up for what would seem to be a lame Harem anime is done so well that you actually believe the story they are telling. Also, unlike most other Harem anime, the girls aren't there to give fan-service and to chase the main character, in fact its actually his job to make them fall in love with him.
Another that that I ought to mention is the opening song. My goodness is it good. When I first started watching the anime I was so blown away by just the opening song that I couldn't believe that the anime could possibly live up to it. Lucky for me I was very wrong. The composition sung by ELISA is so well done that the song itself tells a story that draws you in.
This anime is my favorite, and is well deserving of that spot. From music to characters, The World God Only Knows has it all.
I'd recommend this anime to anyone who is willing to sit down and give it a try. Personally I'd watch this any day no matter the circumstances.
As far as I'm concerned The World God Only Knows, is a masterpiece in every sense of the word, and I'd recommend it to anyone, any day.

Let me start by saying that I'm no Japanese History Major, nor do I claim to be, but this anime, while most likely taking liberties often does a great job making you feel like you are in feudal Japan. Our main hero who is some how sent back in time (or rather into another dimension) finds himself in a world much like our own feudal Japan with one exception, all the great historical figures are girls.
Now I'm not positive about this but I think this anime is still considered Harem. The reason I say that is because while he is surrounded by a wide
...
variety of girls who may or may not fawn over him, its not like other over the top Harem anime where there's nothing really going on other than fan service, all the girls don't just fall in love with the main character for no reason, and then there is no pointless Harem scenes. The story is extremely engaging taking famous historical events and battles from the time and putting a spin on them with the main character who, being from the future, knows how they turn out.
One of the things I love about this anime is the large army battles, which this anime has plenty of, and you really get a feel for what Oda Nobunaga, or Oda Nobuna as she is called in this version, must have felt during his time in history.
All the characters are cool and well developed and unlike our main character can actually fight. The main character is unable to just blow through armies like they were made of wax paper, he is instead forced to rely on his wits and the knowledge he has of the future to help him on his adventure.
If you're a fan of large army battles, empire building, or feudal Japan, then check this anime out. I could watch this anime any day.

Wow, Angel Beats. This anime is full of so much emotion, so much story, and so much action that its a shame that it had to end. This was originally my 4th favorite anime of all time but it was eventually pushed out.
This anime does a great job of giving you just enough information to keep you guessing but not enough to give you the answer. That's not to say that it makes you feel like there's a huge gaping plot whole, but it does it in such a way that it make a sense of mystery throughout the series. Even the last episode
...
leaves you with more questions than answers, but it does it in such a way that it leave you to imagine what it means.
The music is so spectacular that the songs are preformed live. The way the music ties in with the whole story is so entrancing to watch. It actually seems like music itself is a character and takes on so many different forms in the anime, setting the mood, changing depending on the scene, it really is well put together.
The characters are all very fun to watch interact with both their world and each other. They act very self aware, not where they break the fourth wall, but they are much more humanistic than most generic anime characters. Not all the characters are stereotype free, but even those are done so well you forget that they are just an anime character.
From beginning to end this anime is a spectacular show and has a well thought out story. That said, there are one or two problems I have with it but for sake of spoilers I won't mention them. Either way this is a great anime that I'd watch any time and would recommend to most anyone.

Let me start this off with the fact that I love this anime, the characters are cool, the the setting is an interesting world, and the main hero's character trait is really fun to watch. That just leaves us with the story.
The story is a great tale and while not the most original, does it in a way that keeps it fresh and keeps you interested. The anime has its best moments at the beginning. The problem actually comes at the end, or to be more specific the last episode. While I do love this anime and would watch it nearly any day, I
...
feel I have to be blunt. The ending is the worst ending I've ever seen in my life, anime or otherwise, arguably worse than Avatar's. The ending is just so out of left field that I don't think I can think of a reasonable argument to defend it. The whole story follows a single plot line and you do get the feeling, even from the beginning who's going to be the "final boss". However this anime decided it wanted to have a twist ending, the problem is its so much of a twist the viewer is left with a million questions, none of which are answered.
Now I don't mean to scare you away from the anime by any means, in fact this is a more highly recommended anime I give. Its just that the ending can not be overlooked, and while I do re-watch this anime on occasion, I usually skip the last episode and just insert a better plot twist in my head.
Either way, with exception of the ending, the anime is a cool action thriller that has elements of mystery that keep you in suspense, and the banter between the two heroes is always enjoyable to watch. I recommend it so check it out if you get the chance.

The story in this anime is a creative and refreshing one, albeit odd at times. It does a good job of keeping you in suspense of whats to come while giving you action that is first class. While not ground breaking the action is always a thing of beauty (if you think that sort of thing is beautiful). But to be honest the main reason why the action is the first thing that comes to my mind is because what made it so spectacular is the musical arrangement by Yuki Kajiura. Now let me state that I'm a huge fan of her work, the way
...
she captivates you through a simple song is amazing, but when I first hear this song play in the background of the first fight I instantly looked up the song and wanted to just hear the song as an OST. This was my first time hearing Yuki Kajiura's music. Even the opening song is a top notch anime song that is among my favorites.
But other than the music I love the interactions between our main characters Alice and Oz. The way the two interact is just so fun to watch and I honestly can't decide which character I prefer.
Now this anime certainly has some odd things that happen, most obviously the odd connection to Wizard of OZ, which to my knowledge has no connection to the book or the movie at all. (maybe it has some connection to Alice In Chains, but that is even more unlikely)
Either way this is a great anime worth a watch any day in my book, its weird and has unexpected turns that keep you interested from beginning to end. Though, at least for me, what really makes this anime so great is the music.
Thanks Yuki Kajiura! Keep making amazing songs that we can all enjoy.
