The story has a similar premise (protagonist dies and transported to another world). However, Mushoku Tensei is so much more engaging, as you watch Rudeus' growth over YEARS and you become helplessly more invested as you continue to watch each episode. The pacing of the story and each character's depth, development, and role is placed perfectly in the storyline. Each character isnt just randomly placed in the story, but rather shows how their relationship with each other help Rudeus grow to overcome his weaknesses. And, the world building as the story progresses is sequenced and detailed so perfectly. You'll find yourself fully immersed in depth of this world, which is on par with The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings (but you'll also have to read the light novel). Unlike Rimuru's power aquisition from the get go and complete dominance over his foes, Mushoku Tensei's protagonist (Rudeus) reincarnated character and power development from infant to adulthood, isn't over the top. His power doesnt dominate over everyone. He still carries his mental/emotional weaknesses and insecurities from his 34 yo self in his previous life. And also his weaknesses in his new world (unable to do voiceless healing magic, incapable of producing battle aura, and making numerous mistakes in battle due to his inexperience/insecurities). This is the first anime that inspired me to read the light novel from which it was adapted. Although the anime adaptation (mainly season 1) is very well done, ie animation/music/director, you will still need to read the LN for full immersion. And, as you read the light novel, you'll realize how much more depth the world and its' characters actually have. Including the side characters (Sara, Nina Farrion, Isolte, etc) and how their relationship affects Rudeus and his family. What an AMAZING ride! Hands down the BEST isekai i've ever come across so far.
