Just started watching, and right off the bat it reminds me of Blade Runner, one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi films, so in that sense I am biased, but this anime stands on it's own, I've read some of the other reviews, but to me plot twists and complexities are what make a story more gripping, we've all certainly watched animes where the plot goes from A to Z, and that's ok, but when it gets complex and non-linear, that's when the fun begins, and it forces the viewer to think, (remember that), the art is stunning, particularly the action sequences, and the sound
...
Fx are right on the money, so if you plan on watching this anime, by all means go for it, and you can trust my opinion, I AM VERY SELECTIVE about what I watch, an I have been watching anime for over 30 years, so I think i know what I'm talking about, and this is a winner, trust me.

So just began reading Gantz, I'd avoided it for quite some time because of the many mixed reviews I had received from friends as well as those I've read online, well like anything else, you won't know until you actually try it for yourself, it runs out that this is truly an amazing story and what a great premise, this could easily be turned into a great live action film if done right, e.g., good acting, good screenplay and director, anyway the whole context of how everyday people put in this extraordinary situation and how they cope with it is very well done, and how
...
the whole idea of life and death is handled, one could imagine how would we ourselves react when confronted with this dilemma, and as I often do, I watch the anime parallel with reading the manga to compare the depth of the story, since we all know that sometimes one is better than the other, that having been said, both have much to offer; the manga of course going deeper into detail, but the anime hold up on it's own level although I personally find the episodes too short.
Gantz is not for the squeamish given the graphic and brutal violence, but the story keeps all the carnage in context, and for those who appreciate "fan service", there is plenty of it here.

By coincidence I heard about this manga, so I wanted to check it out.
The basic synopsis is a giant demonic panda comes from out of nowhere and begins to kill, dismember and rape most of his victims, sometimes simultaneously, ok don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Elfen Lied, Berserk, Gunnm, and Claymore, all of which are pretty violent and sometimes gory, accepted, but the aforementioned mangas, as well as their companion animes have great stories to explain the violence, in other words the violence and gore are important to telling the story, however with death panda, the over the top violence and

gore doesn't seem to make any sense and i would suspect is there for mere shock value, there is no back story as to why the panda does what he does, and no character development, more like random characters getting killed raped or disemboweled in the most graphic manner, but with no meaningful explanation, like I said before I am a fan of the horror genre, but there has to be a good story as the foundation for all the mayhem, about the only thing I can praise is the art work which is excellent, the guy is obviously talented, and it would be nice ti see him do another manga where there is a great story to go along with all the carnage.

So, finally, I was worried for a moment there, got all the way to ep.11 and then no ep.12, but fortunately after a couple weeks ep.12 was there, so now that it's complete I can give my take, ok nothing really out of the ordinary plot-wise, aliens from another dimension invade in order to destroy humanity, old hat as far as anime plots go, but what's new and exciting is the Pandora concept, a school for warrior girls and their male assistants, " Limiters", very cool, so you have a school-age drama set on the backdrop of fighting evil aliens bent on human destruction, I

very much liked the way the girl rivalries were brutally played out in act of combat, *and I warn you, it gets pretty violent at times, there's no holding back on blood, maybe not as extreme as Elfen Lied or Afro Samurai, but rough enough, not for the squeamish, and ironically, the fiercest battles are between the girls themselves, the action and pace are pretty good and the actors are excellent in giving the characters life and making the audience care about them, actually my only criticism is that there's a little too much "ecchi", don't get me wrong, I'm a guy, and yes I do watch "hentai", but sometimes I think that ecchi is over done in modern day anime, it's ok to throw it in now and again during a story, just like you would a little comic relief, so as to temper the action, but in Freezing there's a panty and boob shot for every couple of frames, even when the girls are trying to cut each other to shreds, a little over done I'd say; otherwise an excellent series with lots of action and drama, the animation is 1st class, and as I said before the acting is excellent, so I major recommend for RONin
