I've been an anime fan since anime began, first ever seen, Gigantor aka Tetsujin 28-gō when I was just 6, so that's about 40+ years of watching anime, still enjoy it, and am amazed at how the genre has grown and the artwork has improved over the years.
I guess you could say I was an otaku before there was a word for it ;-)

pretty much not watching anime anymore, just reading manga, the market is flooded and there just isn't much out there with the kind of depth and power that I like, actually the hentai stuff seems to be a lot better in spite of the focus on sex, but some of the stories are really excellent, but i am eagerly awaiting the new Berserk anime next year, I hope the upgrade does justice to the story, the manga is epic.

Again, you have my meaningless approval. :) Although it's kind of a shot in the dark considering that I don't really know you at all, if you haven't seen Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, you might consider watching it. It's basically a straight-up action/adventure show with mecha that tends a bit towards (very light) science fiction as it goes on.
