Watched to completion the first episode and first few volumes of the manga and it could not grip me. Focusing on the anime it's ok to bad. Main character isn't likable. Relatable yes but not likable. He does nothing but whine and cry and complain and does nothing to make himself look like he can mature or even stick up for himself. Laughable and pitiable at best and annoying and down right miserable to watch at worst. This is a self encapsulated anime along with its second season meaning you do not need to watch or know about any of the immense library of gundam anime to enjoy this. With that said it is a good well thought out story about child soldiers in the scope of a war that is far above them and yet they have the power to forge their own path out of the hellhole of the battlefield. Tense moments for the too young main characters are a running theme that molds the characters into something that is a sight to behold.

This anime is a hidden gem. The pacing, characters, and the excellent music score puts this anime at the top of any watch list.
The character building is excellent letting them explore the space of being upcoming gangsters in a a realistic cruel and unforgiving world that they themselves are aware of. The characters grow and get to carve out their own small section where they get to have their own limelight, sound designs and especially quotes that reflect wonderfully on themselves up until the very end. Action packed? Absolutely. Great animation and a song that hits you just right? Check. Yet that is all that it has. The characters are written nice enough but it is all at a surface level interaction and that is it. The build up for the main character, David, is fairly well executed and built up rather well for a short ten episode anime. The integration for the rest of the cast is minimal with nothing other than 'Hey this is the crew, enjoy them' kind of attitude that leaves very little room for improvement.

This show has very little going for it on all sides. Sure it has some mildly interesting characters and a somewhat interesting storyline but that is all that it brings. The shock factor of having the characters quickly killed wears off fast. The characters get a bit of screen time and then are killed off the moment they get some semblance of relationship development with the main character. Even for an anime made during 2014 there is little other than sheer popularity that has this for redeeming qualities. Ask anyone who saw this if they would like it now that they have seen better.

This is a distilled version of DB that only has, and this cannot be stressed enough, ONLY FIGHTING. The animation is one of the best to experience the original DB fights and cutscenes with the hype and exceptional voice acting from the english voice actors. Though that is all this version does well. Do not expect good character quips, character building, and overall good stuff from the original DB series. ANIMATION ASIDE this is a good anime. Not great, not terrible. It doesn't have much in the terms of character arcs or a very compelling and innovative storyline. It lays out what the story will be, delivers it through some very good animation, and completes it all in a neat little bow. That is where this anime truly shines. The action sequences are by far the only attention grabber this anime has. This anime is by far one of if not the most known anime for a good reason. It gives wonderful story structure, pacing, and character building. It has it's own iconic opening, little catchphrases and parts of it that'll stick to you. Usually a second watch through is something that isn't warranted unless you heavily enjoyed the anime but in this case you will greatly benefit from it.
