Ping Pong Club is the most twisted and perverted comedy ever with the funniest characters and situations ever... and i'm not kidding... it can also be considered as a cornerstone of exagerated/ecchi/comedy/schoolkids animes that would follow, like Green Green and even Great Teacher Onizuka.
Animation:
The animation is not well mannered and without any cute intentions, even crappy... strange, after i called it that i still gave it a high grade, yes i did because that crappy animation gives it that funny feeling.. it just perfectly blends with the mood and the characters... I mean did you see their faces? the guys look like a bunch of
...
losers and perverts, and guess what, they really are like that.
Sound:
The voice acting is very good, and the Bg music is well blended with the comedy part... I've also noticed the Op themes which are very very funny, just like Maeno's "Propeller" song
Story:
Well the bulk of the anime lies in the story and characters... well it's not a plot driven anime, not the kind that focuses all it's power on a goal reached at the end, nope it's the kind of story that i like to call "lifestyle story" cos it shows the day to day routine and problems the characters get into...
Character:
..and belive me when you have two perverts with loud mouths and tons of energy who do nothing else but exagerated practical jokes to other people like dressing-up-games, bullying, blackmail, stealing money, farting and all sorts of stupid plans (Maeno and Izawa.. they are one of the most original and best couples out there) ... then you have the sickest most twisted and perverted little quiet type of guy (Tanaka)... a big and really good-inside person that has the worts BO (Tanabe)... a Casanova kinda guy (Kinoshita), two evil teachers with some psycho problems, a secret Loosers Club organization with the sole purpose of making the hole school look bad so all the kids can be as stupid as the members of the secret club... and a love story between a counscios guy and a sadistic girl which has some anger management problem (Takeda and Kyoko)... well what more could you want? some sado-masochism, cross-dressing, nudity and lots more.
Value and Enjoyment:
Well don't worry this isn't a hentai and it could never bee since the show is about everything it can be exept romance... but still i wouldn't recomand it to kids.. this is more of a "toilet comedy" like American Pie... but for a teenager with a sense of humor this is a real goldmine... and can be rewatched over and over again just for the humor.
It's just strange how few people have seen this one, well since the animation isn't good and the girls aren't really cute i guess that the bulk of anime viewers didn't try it, since they were looking for cute panty shots and lots of cute girls falling in love with one spineless normal guy.. people can be soo shallow... lol but then again how can you call a guy that enjoys this???
Good and Bad points:
+funniest show ever (in a carefree but twisted perverse way)
+some of the most original characters ever (like no other you have ever seen)
-bad animation (although i found it apropiate)
-has tons of offensive and grows out material for the sensitive ones (not that i cared)
Well i laughed soo hard at this one that i couldn't keep my ass on the chair and i developed some agonising abdominal pain.. i recommend this to all the insensitive guys out there who wanna just laugh...

Wow... this is a great anime... and belive me, I'm not a big fan of romantic animes and somehow this one ended up in my top10.
Story, Characters
This is not your normal happy, romantic, shallow, childish, idiotic, puffy pink harem anime that i hate so much, even dough it has the triangle love story... it's quite the opposite, it's realistic, dramatic, depressive and really deep and somehow it managed to impress me so much that it even gave me tears... and belive me, I'm not an emotional guy at all so tears are rare with me.
It starts like a normal, generic, romantic anime but it really
...
takes a huge and tragic turn that will keep you on an emotional ride like you never experienced in a romance/shoujo. You might hate Takayuki or even simphatize with him and the difficult situation he's in and the imposibile choice he has to make, you'll really feel sorry for the two girls, Haruka and Hayase and you'll blame the director for all the suferince they are going through... but in the end you'll really be happy you had the chance to see such a great anime.
Animation
The animation is shoujo, big eyes and cute faces, apropiate to the genre, but it looks like they didn't give too much atention to the animation or they didn't have the money for it, but I can forgive them for that and still give them a full grade since this anime impressed me much and I got really sympathetic with the characters.
Sound:
The music was just right with the situation, and the Ed song is a real masterpiece, being sooo smooth and romantic, just a delight to the ears. The voice acting was good and belive, it has to be since it involves expressing many feelings, but moslty sadness.
Only problem:
... one thing that really bothered me was the restaurant duo, yeah the two little girls who seem to be a reminisence from the hentai game that this anime was inspired. the little girls ruined the mood, had no real importance and effect in the story development and if you think about it from the realism point of view i really doubt that in Japan they let 12 years old kids work in restaurants (minors aren't allowed to work)... but
I'm not gonna lower a story or character point for that since these chapters were brilliant, i'm gonna lower one from the animation who wasn't 10 worthy anyway, just to show this anime wasn't perfect.
Value and Enjoyment:
In the end it's more that a romantic triangle story... it's about a tragedy, an imposibile choice and in the end about passing life's hard obstacles and growing up... we are all moving and "the eternity you wished for" is just a moment that passed.
What can i say.... even if you're not a romance fan, watch this, there's always an exception to the rule, i know this one was for me!

I've seen a lot of overrated and over-hyped animes here, but this has to be one of the few who's underrated, and one that should really be in the Top10 of Top100.
Strange but this anime seems to be the only one that all the people who rated it liked and respect it, even the ones that gave it an average 7 think this is a really good anime, but just gets dragged down by animation and the really depressive story, in their opinion, i happen to like the animation and the story.
Animation:
This anime has one visible flaw but the good points more than make up
...
for it. The only flaw i can see, and the one that drove people off from this anime even before they gave it a chance is the animation that looks like it came out of the early-mid 90's. Sure the fighting scenes don't look so spectacular and there are no majors CG effects, but the animation is still capable of inflicting a few WOOWWs and i find the space battles more intriguing from the logic and realism point of view a lot better than in Gundam, and if you'll watch the show you'll know what i mean.
The character design is that semi-realistic mid 90's Evangelion like style, no pink or blue hair, just the realistic colors you'll find in humans, Aeris Blue doesn't count since he has dyed hair. So overall i love the way they are drawn.
Sound:
The sound is great, with nice music beats, even dough i didn't enjoy the OP theme to much, but i can't think of giving it a lower grade than 10 when it comes to voice acting. It has the best voice acting i ever came across, with voices so diverse and acting so realistic in all sorts of situation, from happiness, to anger, cry or desperation.
Story:
The plot is good and filled with nice and unpredictable twists and similar to the classic "Lord of the flies" but placed in a sf ground, so it's all about how a few hundred teenagers without adults to watch over them fight to survive. And belive me, the outside enemy isn't their own enemy, they are their worst enemy and as time passes things become more and more violent and desperate and the mood darker and darker.
So overall the story focuses on the human nature, on how people act in desperate situation and how these situations change their personalities, the fight for survival and acts of alliances, violence, backstabbing, emotions of all kinds from love, friendship to fear, hate, jealousy and self conservation. All put in an overall realistic and very detailed manner and very dark and dramatic that just keeps you wanting more. And this anime has a real ending, and i don't mean the short, forced conclusion, no, a hole episode in which you can see the aftermath of "no spoilers" the story, unlike most of the japanese animes.
Character:
The character development has to be the crown jewel of this anime, it has the best, most extensive and unexpected character development I ever seen. All the characters are taken care of, some are important from day one others that you'll never consider get a big importance after a while. I should warn you that there are about 26 characters that appear in every episode and have a real development, and that you might not like any of them in the end, but almost all change and at the end you'll never recognize them and you'll probably say "i never thought that he'll end up this way". Maybe you'll love some characters at first and then come to dislike then and the other way around.
Value and enjoyment:
This is one of the best, if not the best animes i've seen, and if you don't mind the animation you'll find a masterpiece of a story development, voice acting and character development...these are the three areas in which this anime could be the best of the best animes.
If you are a SF/psychology fan and you prefer story and character quality over animation quality then this is the BEST choice for you, but if you are a shallow person who just enjoys explosions and cool mechas and pantie shots then you better thing twice.
It is such a brilliant anime and yet so few people know of it, and why you ask? ... Well i guess this world is composed of shallow pantie shot, mega-exposion loverz since this show is so unknown and shows like DearS, Naruto or other top100 animes are soo famous.

Great Teacher Onizuka... heheh and what a great teacher he is. A really original and good anime filled with comedy, action, and a few serious moments, an animation that has given life to one of the most memorable characters i've seen, Onizuka Eichi.
The animation is good, different from what you see elswhere but fits just right with the mood the show aims to give you, the funny faces Onizuka or Uchiyamada make are a real blast of comedy, ones i can always remember and still laugh about.
The sound is great, great voice acting from everybody and a really cool soundtrack. Just watch the OP theme
...
and you'll see what i mean, and later on the second OP/ED themes become even cooler. Maybe the best themes i've came across till now.
The story? funny, action packed and exagerated, really exagerated, i don't think students in Japan can be that bad even if they think they only get betrayed by their teacher... but this exageration gives birth to a really hilarious anime with some serious parts that concern the teacher-student relationship, all seen through the eyes of a very different and incredibile teacher Onizuka, an ex-bike gang leader who wants to be the mentor and teacher that he never had. And what sorts of things can happen in a school? you have no idea untill you watch this semi-episodic story... you can't really categorize this anime, it doesn't really look like something you've sen till now...
The Characters? Onizuka is the coolest character ever, the ex-bike gang leader with dyed hair and ear rings and muscles, tough and careless and always looking for fun on the outside, but with a big heart, trust in people and responsability on the inside... i'm shure any school student would give anything to have a teacher like him. Or the schools Uchiyamada-Sensei... hahah what a funny character. And Murai, Urumi, The PE Teacher, Kukuchi or Anko just make a great character cast.
The only thing that i want out of it is a sequel, they could add one since the ending doesn't really look like an ending, not the ending i wanted... so that's why i'm gonna give the story a 9 instead of a 10... because of the ending.
How can you call yourself an anime fan if you didn't see GTO? this is a real classic, different from everything you've saw till now, the perfect combination between action, fun, coolness and deepness... Just watch the first episode and i bett you would want to watch it all.

STORY:
Neon Genesis Evangelion... one of the most controvercial animes of all times, with legions of determined fans and legions of convinced haters this is one anime that hasn't gone by without leaving some feelings behind and so how can we not recognize it's value.
There are a lot of guys that say Evangelion was a great mecha/action anime for it's time but the confusing and boring ending and the fact that Sinji is a very weak character pulled down the anime... in my opinion they just didn't get the show at all... that is the beauty of NGE, the story is to deep for some
...
to appreciate for a reason, I'll give you a hint... it doesn't have anything to do with robots, fighting, love, or heroes...
NGE is actually a story that uses action, mecha and pseudo-religious symbolism to advance philosophical and psychological depictions and theories about the concept of freedom, self determination, decision and responsability, about the final stage of human evolution and human nature of the dark side, anxiety, the relation between the individual and society, the relation between humans and divinity... all hidden in an seemingly insane but yet very logic story. It can be compared with a complex spider web, a labyrinth. What is interesting in my opinion is that the story doesn't threat you as a fool by throwing the clues in your face, it just shows you a glimpse of it without focusing, it lets you think and put pieces together, and you slowly start to discover new things and form new theories and you soon realize how really extraordinary the anime really is and how much thought, planning and calculation was put into it to make it so complex and mysterious.. and in the end the anime makes you form your own conclusion, your own ending using your own free will.
It incorporates many of Freud's ideas (the father of modern psychology) such as "hedgehog dilemma","oedipus complex","separation anxiety","thanatos","oral stage" which can be seen in the characters actions, especially Sinji, Asuka, Rei, Misato and Ritsuko.
From the philosophic point it deals with the question posed by many great minds over the centuries, what is the human, what is freedom and what is the final stage of evolution, confronting the SEELE's plans (which have clearly an idealist Friedrich Hegel philosophy) against the existentialist view os J.P. Sartre and Kierkegaard... for those who don't know Hegel, Sartre and Kierkegaard are all famous philosophers... the ideea of Human Instrumentality Project is also inspired from Arthur C. Clarke's novel "Childhood's End".
For more just check Evangelion of Wikipedia and you'll be amazed how interesting this anime really is if you have some culture and brains to actually see it's real meanings.
Animation:
The animation still is decent even after almost 10 years and the Eva fights can still impress you, and i really wouldn't imagine characters like Sinji, Asuka, Rei or Misato in any other form.
Sound:
Voice acting is one of it's strong points, the script has some very hard to play out lines and emotions, but as all the seyuus are some of the most experienced ones out there, we get as a result one of the best and most emotional voice acting ever, Oscar worthy for shure.. a great example of that are Sinji and Misato. The music containing mostly classic music also fits every scene and every emotion, and if you have the surround version you couldn't ask for more than this.
Charactes:
The characters are just great, none are perfect, none are good or bad, this isn't a black and white story, all characters have good points and bad points, complex feelings and personalities, most have a tragic past that still haunts them, that has a huge toll on their present, emotional wounds that would never heal. So much lonliness, so much despair, dissapointment, hate and passion. Some are like the storm some like a leaf in a storm but they are all going fast on the one way road to destruction... Trully memorable characters... And for all those who claim to hate Sinji cos he's a coward, and prefer an unrealistic Naruto like kid that has unmeasurable courage in impossible situations, I have to remind them that this is a SERIOUS ANIME where chars act like real humans.
Value:
This is a true classic that any anime fan has to have a real jewel among all SF and psycho animes. We can all accept it's contribution to the anime kind and we know about the copies that appeared after it. Nowbody can remain cold and without feelings after this anime, either you'll love it or hate it, you'll consider it a masterpiece of a genious or the dangerous work of an insane person, you'll still remember it and you'll have to respect it.
