Both are shonen with a lot of fighting and are more violent and gory than most shonen. You will find bizarreness and some lack of realism in both shows. Both shows are very fast paced and in your face with something always happening all the time. The plot progression is kind of the same too where every episode some action happens or some mystery is uncovered that gets them closer to the goal that is very clear from the start. These shows also have some weird sometimes unintentional meme-able comedy.

Death Note has the big brain moments of Danganronpa presented in a much more serious manner. While both shows have equally dark premises Danganronpa is more quirky/chill, Death Note is gloomy and serious. If you like the deductive reasoning, crime, puzzle solving and unexpected turns in Danganronpa you will like Death Note. There is a ton of reasoning and assumption made that will shock you.
