Romance anime is genuinely sickening me at this point. I can’t even sit through rom-coms anymore—they’re rarely funny, and the romance itself is either painfully predictable or unbearably slow. Every time I try watching a second season of a show I somewhat enjoyed, I just can't do it because I already know exactly how it’ll play out. It’s the same misunderstandings, the same love triangles, the same "will-they-won't-they" nonsense stretched over 12 episodes for an underwhelming payoff. Studios aren’t even trying to make it fresh anymore, or somewhat watchable. I actually wonder, how tf still watches this Ctrl C + Ctrl V, mass-produced garbage.
Battle shounen isn’t much better, honestly. It’s mostly just brainless explosions, constant shouting, and over-the-top fights with no real character development. It's quite literally the definition of yeah 'anime is made for kids'. Once you've watched even 1 episode of that garbage, you realize they all follow the same predictable power-up cycle, meant for edgy 13-year-olds who think screaming equals character development/good entertainment
Yeah, I guess that makes me an isekai main now. Say what you want about the genre being oversaturated, but at least it’s fun. Most of them are straight-up self-insert power fantasies, and honestly? That’s part of the appeal. Half of them are so bad they loop back around to being entertaining, and the other half are just dumb fun. And hey, let’s be real—who doesn’t enjoy a good harem every now and then? Sometimes, you just want to turn your brain off and watch some overpowered protagonist collect waifus while flexing on an entire fantasy kingdom.

That's what makes them funl. Half of them are so bad they loop back around to being entertaining, and the other half are just dumb fun. I'd rather watch trash anyday over mid or bad, never confuse the difference between a trash isekai, and a mid/bad battle shounen. Because most of the time, trash always wins over mid.
That said, when I actually want a story with substance, I stick to drama. Unlike romance anime, which drags out basic relationships for no reason, drama actually knows how to develop characters and make emotional moments hit. The world-building, the depth, the tension—it just feels way more meaningful than half the generic plots being recycled in other genres. If you watch battle shounen religiously and glaze it, yet you are over the age of 16years old, please, seek help!
