Great story, my interpretation after watching this show is its very much a story about finding your place in the world, the compromises you are willing to make, and being true to yourself.
Soundtrack is pretty unique, and this is always a plus, shows with a well thoughout soundtrack that evoke emotion and play hand in hand in the messages the story is attempting to tell is where anime can truly shine compared to other media like manga. I think this does a good job of using other senses to contribute to the emotions evoked and the perception of the world within Wolf's Rain.

DEPTH REVIEW INCOMING ---
Throughout the story we see various kinds of people ultimately fighting to survive and live in what seems like a dystopian or apocalyptic world. Each character has different reasons that serve as their foundation, providing the strength they need to persevere.
The wolves are able to traverse harsh climates, adapt and subject themselves to suffering day after day because of their aspiration to find their paradise.
Quent's hatred drives him forward, surviving hardships that many others wouldn't have been able to overcome.
Hubb, intense love is able to keep him afloat, drifting and searching for Cher despite the uncertainty and danger imposed by his surroundings.
Cher is able to blind herself to the dastardly decrepit state of the world, not through love as Hubb has, but by passion, curiosity and obsession, her obsession with the being of Cheza from a scientific perspective is able to fortify her against mental hardship.
My claim is,
Each of our main characters has a raison d'etre that is necessary for survival in a world without meaning, a world full of suffering.
Without their reasons, our main characters would have bit the dust much earlier.
It is up to us to find our reason to living, one that motivates us even when things get tough.
Despite this, each reason is not without criticism.
In fact, one could view the characters from a different lens, each character is critically obsessed with something to a dangerous or unfavorable degree.
What would happen to Quent when he has completed his revenge or loses his hate entirely, will he move forward with the same resilience that he does now?
What of the wolves, Kiba whose fervor to find paradise at times makes him uncompromising. He prioritizes this goal over the health of the pack at times, such as Toboe's weakness in the storm. Searching for an idealistic world could lead you to miss all the great opportunities that await you here, today if you were to open up to them.
What would Hubb do if he could no longer love and admire Cher? Could he weather the storm and struggles just as well if Cher had found another lover, or if she had died?
And Cher, if Cheza were to wither as flowers do, what future does Cher have? How would she live now?
Each of the reasons that drives our characters could easily become something that ruins them. The story might be indicating that there is no right way to live, which is right for you is up to the viewer to decide.
The short coming of this show I'd say is the 4 episode flashback in the midst of the season which knocked it down, and the finishing of the story in the OVA.
